I don't see how anyone can hate Mayweather if you don't know him. If you are reading about him or watching reality tv, you are probably spending too much time in his personal life. I don't know or care too much about his personal life. All I know is he is one of the best boxers I've ever saw.
Agreed, I would also add to that list of fighters that don't handpick..The only fighter I see today fighting hard fighters constantly is Sergio Martinez..

Abner Mares, Juan Manuel Marquez, Lucas Matthysse, Gennady Golovkin, Jhonny Gonzalez, Juan Francisco Estrada, etc.
But yeah I have never or will consider Mayweather and Manny amongst the great boxers in history because of their cherry picking and catchweights.
The only thing I appreciate about them is that they have brought millions of new fans to the sport of boxing.

"Sometimes they say, 'Well, Floyd Mayweather's opponents was handpicked.' That's a good thing," Mayweather said during a conference call with reporters to hype Saturday's world title fight against Mexico's Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. "I commend my team ... when I sit back and I think about my career, I say 'you know what? I had a cool career. I didn't take any punishment'.
"If they say these guys were handpicked, they were handpicked to make $40 and $50 and $60 million, then you know what? Keep handpicking them. If they're going to keep paying, keep handpicking them."
Awesome post. I agree 100%. People are now saying Floyd handpicked Canelo because he knew he'd beat him but is ducking Pacqiou.IMO, he's being sarcastic, basically saying if he's fought nobody this whole time then why is everyone paying to watch these fights. What happens is that people build up these opponents to be real threats. It's only after Floyd outclasses them and makes it look easy that fans & media want to have revisionist history.
Guerrero & Ortiz, big young and strong? Not so much, but Floyd isn't at fault, everyone thought those fights might be competitive, for some reason. Mosley & De La Hoya? Oh, they're too old after the fact, before the fact, it was supposed to be stiff competition (and to his credit, Oscar was). But people who dislike Floyd can't say these things when 9 times out of 10 those same people were all over Manny's jock for less than stellar competition the whole time he was relevant.
So here we go again. EVERYBODY has said Canelo is one of the best fights out there Floyd could possibly make. So he made it. If he comes out and shows the huge disparity in skill between them that I believe exists, and makes it look fairly easy, don't try to discredit the bout afterwards. Canelo's camp were the ones bringing up the catchweight, on top of that he'll be around 170 on fight night like he usually is, and nobody is saying he's too young right now, they're saying his youth is his advantage. Let's just try to enjoy the fight and give credit where it's due after it's finished...
Manny's still got an awesome number of huge fights on his record, more so than most multi-weight champions. Everyone knows Mayweather is the real deal and would have won most of those fights against all comers. But the fact remains his record doesn't show that, fans just know it from the way he boxes, and in particular the way he boxes against other great champions.Let's be real, Manny handpicked as well. They all have. The only fighter I see today fighting hard fighters constantly is Sergio Martinez. If anyone thinks Rios would have beat Paq 2 years ago, they are crazy because he has absolutely no boxing skills, he's just a brawler with a good chin. The one concern I have about Manny now is with the knockout he suffered, fighters tend to not be the same and tend to be easier to be knocked out(IE, Chad Dawson). Other than that, I see Manny EASILY outclassing Rios but again, they have all cherry picked fights. I just don't understand why people single out Mayweather when Manny fought the exact same fighters he did, even later than Mayweather. The real reason they didn't fight was Bob Arum and it's why HBO is getting killed in the boxing game because they are only fighting in house.
