Meh... crappy fight.

Man, most of HBO must really despise Margarito. Cotto's revenge? Hardly. Miguel spent most of the night running and clutching.

Cotto managed to land great shots, but he failed to stop Antonio. Upon realizing that he could not TKO/KO Margarito, he held on for dear life.

Really Dooms? I really wanted to see this fight but I said I'd wait to see it next weekend on HBO but according to every website, Cotto dominated. I guess I'll see for myself next Saturday.

Pretty much how I saw it.

The Rios fight was pretty good.

Showtime also had some good fights on.

Yeah I saw the Showtime fights. Another great Mares fight that went the distance without all the below the belts shots this time.

Cotto is the superior boxer, and he displayed it last night, but the hatred surrounding Margarito made Cotto's victory sound as if Miguel ripped out Antonio's spine. Not the case, at all.

Cotto spent most the night backpedaling and clinching. He received no warning on top of it.

Glad Cotto won, I have no time for Margs but that eye can't hold up for much longer

The backpedaling and clinching was all tactical and intelligent. A warning or penalty would have been ridiculous.

At the time of the stoppage, I had the fight scored 6-3 in Cotto's favor, which is the exact same score I had in their first fight after nine rounds. I felt Margarito should have been allowed to continue; those last three rounds could have gotten real interesting. But, as it is, Cotto earned and derserved that TKO victory. Margarito should definitely retire, though. Pacquiao ruined his eye forever, and now he won't be able to compete with anyone worthwhile.

So did anyone see Khan lose Saturday? Saw the fight and I don't understand why some people are saying he got robbed. He ran the entire fight and Peterson actually outboxed him. Plus Khan was really trying to be like Paq the entire fight. Everything that Manny does, Khan did it.

He didn't get robbed, Khan got screwed over. The ref should've never taken those points away. Give those two points back and he would've rightfully won the fight.

That ref did a horrible job.

How did he get screwed? Khan pushed off NUMEROUS times, hit the guy while holding his head down numerous times, and was even given a hard warning in the 6th round that the bias HBO crew didn't hear or even mention. Plus he RAN from the 4th round on until the 12th. No way did he get screwed. The ref did a fair job considering how Khan played dirty the entire fight.

No, he NEVER received a hard warning. You are making that up.

Have you EVER heard of a boxer being deducted even 1 point for pushing? Because I've been watching boxing for close to 20 years, and I haven't.

How you can say he ran, is beyond me. Have you not ever heard the term "stick and move"? That's what he was doing.

Khan got ****ed over and it honestly seems you are either incredibly biased or don't know boxing.

He gave a hard warning in the 6th round. If you look at the fight on Demand(with Comcast)you will see that he gave a hard warning. That's what happens when you listen to the bias reporting of HBO. And he did run IMHO. How can you say I'm biased just because I don't agree with your opinion. If anything, you are the one who seems bias because I have not stated Iron Stark was bias even though we don't agree with the fight.

Just because you've never seen it before, that doesn't make it any less illegal. Example: I've never witnessed a murder being comitted, but it is still illegal.

I applaud the referee for taking the first point away. Lamont Peterson was destroying Khan whenever he was able to get inside and fire off hooks and uppercuts to the body and head. Khan was finding it difficult to escape Peterson's close quarters onslaughts with footwork and/or effective counterpunching, so he resorted to shoving his opponent away to escape the punishment. Had Khan not been constantly shoving his opponent away on the inside, I don't think it's difficult to imagine a knockdown as a result of the accumulation. The first point deduction was warranted.

HOWEVER

You do not take a point away in the final round of a close fight unless the foul is deliberate and incapacitating. The best referee is the one you never notice. The second point deduction was bad refereeing. Still, I scored the fight 113-112 for Khan. If it weren't for that suspect knockdown in the first round, I would have had a draw. Anyway, Khan already announced on Twitter that the rematch will be in March.

Great post sir! And I actually agree that the point in the 12th round was wrong. But if it was taken away in the 11th round, I would not have had a problem with it. I actually had Peterson winning and the 1st knockdown should not have counted. Khan threw a ton of punches but most did not hit. Peterson had amazing defense and his counter punching was also amazing. It could have been a draw but again, I think Peterson won and Khan was not robbed.

I'll rewatch it tonight, but I don't recall him ever saying "if you push again, I'm deducting a point."

Apples to oranges.

And when you see it, I want an apology tomorrow! :argh: But seriously, look for it and don't listen to the HBO commentary. :o

Lol, fair enough. If I'm wrong, I have no problem admitting it.

OK, but pushing/shoving is illegal in a pugilistic contest. That is not debatable.

I agree, but it's one of those rules that never gets called. To have it called twice in the same fight in the favor of the hometown fighter, smells like home cooking to me.

So did anyone see Khan lose Saturday?
A great fight even though that moron of a ref who should be fired screwed it up, damn he was horrible. I hope there's an immediate rematch because it was a great fight regardless of the ******ed ref and the two blind judges, though one of the judges had it right.

I had the fight: Amir Khan (W114), Lamont Peterson (L111)

Fcee....................no way was Khan winning by that much. I will say this: it should be up there with the Kirkland/Angulo match for fight of the year. And the rematch is in March.

To each is own, sir.

You're right and honestly you are not the only one to feel that way. I had a coworker who says Khan got jobbed. But honestly, that fight could have went either way and I can't believe it when people say Khan got robbed. He was blatantly breaking the rules even after he was warned numerous times.

Ok look around 1:15, 16 of the 6th round, you will clearly see where he gives him a hard warning about pushing off or he will take a point off. He ignored Khan pushing off 7x after being warned!

But he never got a "I'm taking a point away, the next time you push off" warning. That was a piss poor job done by the ref.

Had this happened overseas with Khan getting the home-cooking, people would've been up in arms as usual.

But bottom line, it took the ref's help for Peterson to win the fight. Had the ref never taken the points away Khan would've won.
