Not a big HBO watcher to be honest. I've still yet to start season one of The Wire - bought the DVD set.
I subscribed just to see carnival, since he was in it.
The premise is he is the classic old time preacher from the 1920's or 30's. He goes around saving souls etc. The kicker is, he is being used by the wrong side. He turns out to be one creepy a$$ dude toward the middle and end.
I dont wanna give it away since you havent saw it, but if your a clancy fan, its a must see.

It shouldn't be a question of whether a scene is "good." The flashback scene of Clark running in the corn was great, in terms of sheer film-making. Tons of people busted their butts to make it a great scene, on its own.

The problem was that it didn't advance the movie's story. At all. It would have been better suited for a Smallville pilot than SR. I'm at a loss to explain why it was even in the script.

Like the opening scene with Lex Luthor, too. Why did we have to know how he got his money? Yes, it was also to show how eville he is, but they could have done that while actually advancing the story, too. The old lady and her family showed up for 5 minutes and then disappeared.

I totally agree.

The problem was Bryan's total obsession with the Donner films, trying to remake them and yet somehow make a new film. He couldn't let go of the Donnerverse at all, that is obvious.

This might sound rather silly to some, but what really irked me was that we didnt get a CLASSIC shirt rip after 20 yrs of waiting. I mean c'mon, WTF was that?? (yeah, I know the story as to why we didnt. Thats still no excuse. reshoots, reshoots, reshoots)

Knowing the attention-span of modern day audiences, I'd bet $$$ they'd have said, "They totally ripped-off Spider-Man!" had Singer done a classic shirt rip sadly.

probably so. Truth is, every (cb) film rips off Superman and Batman since they have pretty much did it all first.

Honestly - I don't think the general public would care that both Spidey and Supes do a shirt rip.

It might just be us here who actually care about knowing who did it first.

Personally, I don't care either way.

But we know how audiences can be.

Oh, my eyes bleed when i saw that barefaced Superman rip-off in Raimi's (IMO mediocre and stupid) Spiderman 1.

For all the crap that Singer got for Returns, the first two Spider-Man films take alot from Superman and Superman II without anyone saying a word.

They made money. :yay:

But in all seriousness, those "jokes" about utilitary belts, Shazams! and shirt rips were painful.

And yes, Spiderman 1 had STM structure almost step by step and Spiderman 2 was SII again.

You'd be surprised at some of the younger fans who believe Spiderman came up with it now. :csad:

I thought it was funny when Aunt May said, "You do too much ... You're not Superman, you know."

If you cut all the Luthor scenes the movie speeds up quite a bit. His plot line moves so incredibly slowly.

His scenes did move kind of slowly but most of them were necessary, except for the first. We needed to see how he got the crystals, how they worked, how they caused the blackout, how he got the kryptonite, etc. ISS is right that the script wasn't great and needed to be tightened up.

STORM! I will never forgive him for shafting my favorite X-men character. :cmad:

Yeah, I remember not liking Halle Berry as Storm nor how little she appeared in the movie. She was my favorite X-Man as a kid. Plus Anna Paquin would not have been my first choice as Rogue, and a couple lines struck me as corny. It was still entertaining but it could have been better.

The toy train scene could have been cut down a little, at least.

And "Do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning? Same thing that happens to everything else" will never NOT be cringe-inducing. Ugh, I'm cringing just even thinking about it. :o

The flashback scene is a direct parallel with Jason displaying his Super Kid abilities later on in the film. Watch SR again :hehe:

It shows how he got his money and his "boat" which allows Luthor to go to the FOS, where he steals his crystals to create New Krypton, etc, etc. Plus. the boat is also were most of the action in the third act takes place. The family disappeared because obviously Luthor took over their house :hehe: I really don't understand the issue. If Singer had just shown Luthor suddenly at sea with lots of money I'm sure people would complain as well...You may not like the scene, but that doesn't renders it particularly irrelevant. I thought the train set scene could have been shortened a bit, though.

I don't recall Jason ever flying in exhilaration. :oldrazz:

I thought it was already understood even among the general public that Lex was a rich, powerful guy. Even if he went to jail, it'd probably be first-class jail and he'd still have his funds. I dunno, it just seemed tacked on.

LOL. That would be something :woot:

It comes at the end of both scenes, When Clark finally stabilizes his flight, he realizes he no longer needs his glasses. When Jason whacks "Brutus" he realizes he no longer needs his inhaler... And it goes back to that farm. In case someone hadn't realized the kid was Superman's :hehe: So it's just another way for Singer to show more paralles between Supes and Jason: Being raised by two mortals, will grow to become different, etc.

I'm not sure about the funds, really. I think he was rich again in Superman IV: The Quest For Piss, but that one's not in continuity with SR. I don't recall if he had his fortune back in Superman II, but didn't he just escape prison in that one? Well, somehow he lost money. Not sure who to blame for that :oldrazz:

I had to wipe my eyes to see if what I just read was true.

Nightwing1977 just responded to my post and not a sexual innuendo is in sight.

Now why would I bring up a sexual innuendo chat? I'm not a pervert, you know. :D :D

That's weird. I thought you were a girl.

That's because you're always wrong.
