I had an inkling Ebert would like it, he's always had a thing for those pulp type flicks like Rocketeer and Sky Captain. This would be the first superhero flick this year he actually has given a positive to.

Just another opinionated voice that everyone pays mind too.

66% now! But average down to 7.0. They seem to be working in inverse to each other lol.

I've ignored him mostly in this genre, but I have to admit, the yo-yo of yesterday's Cap reviews, this is a lovely little cherry on top.

Am I wrong for kind of digging Sky Captain? It's light, airy fluff of a movie, but I enjoyed it immensely.

Never in the history of rotten tomatoes has a movie started off rotten and turned out fresh. and i have followed RT for a very very long time to note this. I PROMISE you it will remain ROTTEN for all time sake. watch...

You were saying....

HMM! God DAMN Man (see what i did there) if this trend continues you just might be eatin these words after all:

NO it is not Ironman LMAO!!!! i knew this was going to be a dud as it looks very generic and ever since Ironman 2 all Marvel movies have been generic as hell. All the avengers related movies have been campy romantic comedies full of cheesy dialog and horrible fight choreography. SMH...i hope this movie flops and Marvel stop prostituting their own franchises. Disney/Marvel was the worst thing to EVER occur. I'd have preferred DreamWorks/ Marvel. Disney's formula is tired and they have no innovative film making. I think Tim Burton is the only visually impressive Disney based director and sadly even Alice was mediocre as Disney are just money capitalizers and u can tell by their film delivery

They dont LOVE the mythos of these characters, they merely are hacks out for a weekend BO hit rather than making CLASSIC movies.

:woot:

I'm confused. The Village Voice review makes it sound like Peggy Carter is just another damsel in distress who can't get her makeup dirty. But others have said she's actually a strong female character who isn't in the third act just to get saved by Cap. So which is it?

Really gonna be confused because that one lady's crass opinion differs?

Sure, its fine to enjoy fun movies like Sky Captain. Not all movies have to be thought provoking to be enjoyable.

Ebert's review seems to imply they used CGi not just to shrink Evans, but also to bulk him up ........ and that you never truly see the real Evans in the film. Is this correct? I thought all the muscle mass was his own hard work and CGi was only used for skinny Steve?

66%. Thisi might just finish in the 70s after all, although I get the feeling reviews will be irrelevant to this film's box office performance anyway.

With Top Critics it's currently at 73% with a 7.2/10 average.

I wonder if certain people will be turned off because Steve Rogers consistently chooses to do the right thing over and over again, without hesitation, without having a half-hour "pros and cons" debate with himself, without having to be cajoled into it. He has no ego, not a selfish bone in his body, and would give you the shirt off his back if you asked him and you needed it. Certain people, instead of deriving inspiration from his actions, will look for some reason why its not their fault/ its not wrong that they continue to only look out for themselves.

I think thats why a movie like this is such a breath of fresh air. Hey, remember when your parents didnt have to bribe you to get stuff done that had to get done? Remember when apathy and greed weren't virtues? This movie seems to remember. Hopefully, his character traits rub off on the other avengers, as opposed to Steve showing off his crib on MTV and exclaiming every time he walks into a room "Where all the Bit*hes at!??!

By this guys count, right now, there are 35 positive, 9 negative, with a rating of 80%

Lmao, by the time this is over with WB will have fudged some more reviews to be rotten.

I have no idea how RT determine when a review is rotten or not, but it's evident it's not based on critics actual scorings as from what I've seen there the ratings for films never really match the fresh/rotten ratio.

Does seem odd how a 2.5/5 rating for one film has been counted as fresh, but for another it gets counted as rotten (if under 60% is rotten then all films with a 2.5 should get that).
Doubtful they read each review to determine it as well.

Anyways, if RT have been deliberately doctoring the numbers that is rather naughty of them.

Movie review ratings are basically government politics numbers for geeks.

I see it's up to 68% at the moment on RT. Not too shabby :yay:

68% with 23 positive reviews out of 34

Edit- WOOOBBLYYYYY!

They couldn't do anything to save Green Lantern because you can't make chicken soup of of chicken crap but they can rig the close ones here... shame on the WB.

Yeah, there was no more negative ones to choose from, so only place to go is up. Finally!

Surfer

Okay, the rating is 68% now. It's very very clear that RT was deliberately trying to make Cap look bad. It's heading for mid-70's now.

I don't even know why RT is the end all be all regarding reviews and the ratings.

Yet once again showing that Marvel Studios doesn't make crap movies.....PERIOD.

They've made 5 films in a row and NONE OF THEM are rotten.
