The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

Okay, I rarely come on this thread since it's the debates themselves that interest me, but what's goin on with Witchking? Did he miss all 5 matches this week? Is he coming back next week? Did he spontaneously combust?

JH would have the best idea on what is going on but he is probably busy ie personaly life getting in the way, etc.

Ugggg....just finished watching the DVD of Fanboys. Very, very, very, very bad! Let this be a warning...when a movie is made and not released for over 2 years, it's a general sign that it's a piece of crap. I only laughed once....and, that was because of one scene involving Jason Mews and Kevin Smith.

WitchKing is now working 2 jobs so that takes up a lot of his time, plus he and his family just moved into their new house (his parent's old house) two days ago. And to add on top of that, he's helping his parents pack still, who will be moving to another part of the state in a few weeks, so he's swamped. The two jobs have been taking all his time for a few weeks now and with him moving and soon to be limited internet I asked if he wanted to drop out and he said no but he'll see where he is in a few weeks.

So that's the update.

Well, we gave Franklin, what, three weeks? Seems it's the least we can do for WK. Especially since we actually can communicate with him.

Well I hope Witchking works out things through his difficulties.

I gave my presentation Wednesday in front of an audience. It was a nerve wracking experience speaking on a podium in front of very top level professionals but at least some thanked me afterwards even though I thought I was horrible (I got very nervous up there even though I was told it did not show).

In other more relevant news, my votes are in.

Wtg, Ahura! I know the feeling of talking in front of the "big wigs." It's very nerve racking...and, nothing feels better than when it's finally over. (Of course, unless you totally botch the job.)

Thankyou. I must say it was a relief when it was over. I talking to some of those in attendance and hopefully there is one group that may be interested in investing with us in the future as they liked our ideas.

I'm excited. After next week I'm back on first shift for the duration of the summer while the kids are out of school. I'm a janitor for a middle school these days and will probably make a living of it. The work is supposed to be less tedious and I'll actually get to see my family on more than just the weekends. It'll suck though because Paige, my oldest daughter, starts kindergarden this coming year. So once I go back to 2nd shift I'll get up, take my daughter to school, and then I won't see her again until I get up to do it again in the next morning. I'm a major daddy guy so that's going to suck.

The good news though is that my boss's boss was talking to me last week, and though I've only been doing this job since late November, he wants me to take the custodian test (my boss's level) so I can become management. Now, it's a long drawn out process but it greatly increases my chances of going first shift. If i wait for a first shift opening as a janitor it could be 9 or 10 years. If I try custodian I can be on first shift in maybe 2-4 years. That way I won't miss so much of my daughters's growing up. I told him I want to but that I'm going to wait until the next test comes around next year so that I can really get an idea of the summer work and all the things that I'm not comfortable with yet. If i'm going to retire in the school system I don't want to rush into things I'm not ready for. He seemed to respect that.

It also helps that starting pay is $17 an hour, which will dramatically help my retirement in the end, and for a guy who never had the oppertunity to go to college, that's pretty good.

I have an hour before I have to leave for work, I can try to get one of those threads started for you, Phaed. I'll start thread 4. And since I'm only doing one thread I won't bother with the CoMarvels name.

As a guy who went to college....and, knows some friends who did the same thing...let me just say that going to college does not necessarily equate to "getting ahead" more than someone who hasn't. It gets you in the door easier...and, some degrees are obviously better than others and will help for those better jobs....but, for many of us, the degree doesn't do a lot. (For example, I have a teaching degree; but, after trying it for a bit, decided it wasn't for me at that time. Now, I'm doing something that doesn't even require any kind of degree, and am quite happy.)

The CoMarvels was a good idea, but as it stands, I don't see where we've really needed it.

Thanks for doing Thread 4. Even doing one thread is a big help! Thanks!

Hmm this could be some debate. Powder, I am unlikely to start before Tuesday morning my time unless the weather gets to be very bad this weekend.

Also note that next week I will be travelling from Wednesday and will have meetings all day Thursday and Friday so I am not sure if I can even vote :(.

Regarding my own battle, Vulcan will be the one going through (if anyone had any doubts).

Continuing Powder's and my discussion from Thread 1 about leaving comments.

I don't see problems with the leaving of comments on your votes. I like to see why people vote the way they do, and once voting is over, I don't think people would really do it. When voting is over, we're already moving onto the next set of matches.

Now, I can swear I never look at other people's votes before I vote. And, I don't believe any of us let other people's opinions sway our votes. (And, I think most people also don't look at how the votes are going.) We're all pretty much CoM veterans, and all of us know we wouldn't want a comment to effect a decision on our character's; so, for that reason, I would think everyone would show the same respect for the other people in the contest.

I have said my peace and although I believe that most wouldn't let another voters vote sway them, there is always the potential that it could affect even one critical deciding vote. I also thought it was a BS statement that shouldn't have been stated since I 100% do not agree with. I have seen other people do the same thing and really I would do the same thing tomorrow or any other day if someone states something that is incorrect. If someone states Iron Man beat Galactus in an arm wrestle, would you just leave it?

Yes, I would leave it. Now, someone else can go ahead and make a comment...and, that's been done before; but, our rules state that when debating is over, we are not allowed to leave a comment on our matches.

And, I don't find it a BS statement. He had amnesia, and as he wouldn't have his Time Gem, he wouldn't have access to his memories. To me, he acted child like, and that's an effect of his amnesia to me. Now, if he was allowed to have access to his Time Gem, I might think very differently. But, he wouldn't have it, just as he didn't have it last season. To compare Iron Man defeating Galactus in an arm wrestling contest to my interpretation of a character's memory and interaction with his teammates are so completely different.

Okay, thread 4 is finished. It just needs the location post and I don't remember where the location is.

Thanks, JH!

So far on Thread 1, we need to define the two characters "Magik" and "Captain Marvel." Last season, I know we defined Cap, but can't remember what we said about him. I take it it's the version last seen in Thunderbolts. For Magik, is it the most recent, from the mini series?

Also, if anyone can find information about Pilgrimm, I didn't have any luck.

He wouldn't need access to his previsou memories. Just because someone has amnesia, it doesn't make them childlike. Of course there is different degrees of amnesia and memory loss, Maxam just couldn't remember who he was before he came to the Infinity Watch. It wasn't like "50 First Dates" where he forgets everything each night or every 5 minutes. He didn't have brain damage. You would only need to read this page to tell he isn't like the way you have portrayed him.

As for being different cases, no they are not. They are both statements that you would believe (interpret). It doesn't make it a fact, and it certainly doesn't make it correct.

I would need that scan put into perspective to comment on it fully...i.e. issue number, if he had the Time Gem or not, etc, etc. We know we can show scans of our character's kickin' butt, but there are scans of that are neglected, for obvious reasons. For example, if it was my character fighting Maxam, I would have brought out the following information:

*Maxam does not have the Time Gem. So, since he does not have full access to his memories, he's greatly hindered in this match. He won't have any information on Ultimus and when the match starts, he won't be at his full peak power. He starts at a more normal rate, and as a fight goes on, he gets stronger.

*Maxam's skin is not impenetrable. In Warlock and the Infinity Watch #19, Iron Man was able to prick his skin in order to draw blood.

*In Warlock and the Infinity Watch #27, he was trapped under a large rock.

*In Warlock and the Infinity Watch #42, Maxam had steel girders wrapped around him, trapping him and making it unable for him to fight.

So, while you can show Maxam being bad-ass, I can also show a different side of him.
