The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

I'm just going with your idea, Wiegeabo. Random will currently take over WitchKing's characters, as I think in the last 5-6 weeks, they've only been debated once. As WitchKing is very busy with 2 jobs...and, having a life...we understand his being unable to fully participate. In the meantime, Random is helping him...and, us...out by debating his characters. (Especially since he has 4 this week.)

We will also see what JH has to say about it; but, I think he'll agree it's a good solution.

I'm fine with that. Glad to have another player.

For some reason I was thinking Random was already playing, and you were just giving him all of Witch's characters instead if splitting them among everyone. :p

Wow, Random..you got those up fast!

Anyway, the basics of what you need to know. Debating is Friday through Wednesday...BUT, opening debates must be up by the time I leave work on Tuesday (roughly 4-5 PM). That leaves up to 24 hours of final debating...but, if I see things are pretty much ended, I will close debating early. (If possible, you can just do a closing debate to let us know you are finished.)

Remember, you cannot start an opening debate with a rebuttal of a previous opening debate. You shouldn't even read someone's opening debate before writing your own. To be fair, you both should go into your opening debate not knowing the other's opening strategy.

As such, Closing Debates shouldn't be a rebuttal of someone else's previous debate...and, you should not put new stuff in it. Just go over your main points.

Finally, when it comes to your characters, unless it says otherwise (or you notice a problem), it will be most recent appearance up to the end of Secret Invasion. (Another good indicator is if the comic came out in January or after, you cannot use that information when debating.) If you have any questions regarding your character, Wieg, JH or I will try to answer as best we can.

That is not a picture of Madison Jeffries in thread 2. That was the director of the revitalised Weapon-X.

EDIT: Also, proper Marvel link, although there's undoubtedly a better bio out there.

Thanks Harlekin! I was rushing so much, I wasn't even paying attention to the page that I grabbed.

Just want to say I'm completely okay with Random taking over for Witchking. WitchiKing actually moved out a while ago so I don't get the chance to talk to him like I used to but he said he'd try to still play. Since then I don't think he's posted on the hype once. So I'll ask him if he wants to just hand his characters over to Random and be done with it (provided that's okay with Random).

Okay, just want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything... but I am without a match this week... right?

Also, I've made myself sick. I bought American Son parts 1 and 2 at the comic shop today on a whim for the Dark Reign tie-in. It's litterally sitting on my desk, unopened (the comic shop I went to bags them... which is something I'm not used to since my main shop doesn't) and I can't even bring myself to look in them. I'm actually mad that I bought them and it's making my reading the other comics I bought less enjoyable. Only War of Kings made me happy thus far. Mighty Avengers and Dark Avengers were okay. New Mutants bored me to tears and I think it's probably my least favorate title I currently buy. I'll probably drop it after the first arc unless Legion joins the team.

And I'm so sick over Spidey that I can't even bring myself to read Captain Britain Annual, Batman & Robin, or the 2 issues of Punisher I was behind on.

I am genuinely mad at myself and sickened. I might just throw the comics away.

Wait, I'm confused. You bought comics that you haven't read, yet somehow are mad at what's in them?

I'm still 100% sickened about OMD. Everytime I see Harry alive or Spidey not married to MJ I get sick about it. I can't help but to role my eyes anytime I see the name "The Amazing Spider-Man" in solicits or Newsarama interviews, etc.

What Marvel did in OMD is enough to kill my respect for them. I still buy their comics due to my loving the characters and stories, but I no longer like Marvel themselves, and I'm slowly weeding myself off of them. I'm still buying a lot, but only because you need to to get the stories. However, once this Dark Reign stuff starts winding down I plan to start weeding myself from all the Avenger titles and maybe the X-Men stuff as well. I'm not sure about the Cosmic stuff yet, but I've just grown very very bitter toward marvel.

OMD and the greedy $4 price hikes have made me hate Marvel. Spider-Man's book is the main focus of that hate. I thought today that I'd try to suck it up and give Spidey a shot post OMD and bought the two Dark Reign tie-ins but I can't stand that I even did that. I just skimmed the two issues and hated every moment of it. Harry shouldn't be alive. Peter shouldn't be single. It's just all wrong.

Okay, I talked with WitchKing and he says he's sorry for not being as active and that he didn't expect to become so busy when he joined. So he's okay with just dropping out and allowing Random Havoc to take over his characters. So Random, if you want them, take them.

You won't have many though. Just what's left in round one in addition to Norman Osborne, Moonstone, Steel Spider, and Human Torch from what I can remember.

Well, hopefully WK will be around to vote occasionally.

Randomly...

So I've never been a Punisher fan. Just didn't care. I don't mind him in guest appearances and such, but that's about all I've ever cared (save for that Double Edge storyline back in the 90's).

However, since I like the Sentry, I was curious about the Punisher vs Sentry match promoted in Punisher's new series by Rick Remender. I bought it and found that I really liked the issue. So I continued to buy it through issue 5, the newest issue, though I've fallen behind on reading it after issue 2. I was going to just drop it since I don't seem to have the desire to actually read them all, but to be fair I decided to give them a thorough read. So I just read all 5 issues in order and I have to say that I LOVE this book. It's the first ongoing Punisher series to really have my attention and I actually found myself sad at the end of issue 5 because issue 6 hasn't come out yet.

It's a little slow, yet, fast paced at the same time. And I think this is my favorate usage of the Hood that I've read so far since his return into the Marvel Universe. He's a major player but subtly used. Tieing his demon side with his mob side equally and really making it work. It really feels like it's building to a huge Punisher/Hood battle and I really hope it plays out accordingly to the build up. The art fits it well but there's a new art team starting next issue. Hope it fits as well as the previous one.

Any of you people reading it? Just curious.

Also... for you DC fellas abroad... what's your thoughts on the Spectre?

Not being a big DC fan I've not read much. He was okay in Green Lantern: Rebirth but it was pretty much Hal. Then in Infinite Crisis he was a bit savage. But since then when he's bound with that cop guy... I've found a real interest in him. I also just read the 3 issue Spectre mini that came after Infinite Crisis followed by Final Crisis: Revelations and I am floored by the character. I LOVE him!

I just found out he was in another mini between the two, Tales of the Unexpected, so I'm really hoping to get that one soon. What's your guys' thoughts on the character? Do you know of anything else he's been in since Infinite Crisis or that he will be in soon?

And how was the two previous series' with the previous hosts? Any good stories you'd recommend?

Not a huge fan of the Spectre. Always meant to read the series when Hal Jordan was bonded to him.

The Tails of the Unexpected was a good, albeit unusual read. The main story involves how Crispus Allen deals with being the new Spectre in a rather gruesome series of events. The sub book at the end deals with Dr. 13. An old school DC character, I believe, and his adventures with a world of classic, but unused in today's comics, bunch of characters. Adventures he doesn't believe in because he refuses to believe in magic and the supernatural and all that. :p

Cool, I look forward to getting ahold of some copies, though it'll probably have to be a few months first. :(

Just reading the Spectre mini followed by Final Crisis: Revelations wowed me. They go off of one another really well and I LOVED Phillip Tan's art in Revelations. It was beautiful. I liked him back during X-Men: The Draco (when people criticized him like mad) and he's massively improved. I plan on buying anything Spectre's in for the upcoming future.

I'm going to bind a Spectre volume... I know it :)

Anything you can get of John Ostrander's Spectre is great. That is a fantastic series.

I completely agree. This relatively new Punisher series is one of my favorite series ever so far. Long as Marvel doesn't let themselves lose out on either of the creative team, I plan on buying it for a long time (but in trades since that's my preference)

On another note:
I have no idea how to look up an extensive list of my newly acquired characters, so if anyone could send me a complete list it'd be appreciated.

Also, I'll trade them all for a chance to get Sentry :D

Hmmm Witchking did get Dr. Doom and Mr Fantastic from Franklin which you now have....... interesting.... :D

Here’s all of your characters, Random. Unfortunately, WitchKing allowed a lot of good characters to fall away, but you still have some good potential here. These are only those that have advanced or are yet to fight. This week’s numbers in each bracket are 49-52, so anything before that’s already advanced. And if you want to see who they are facing you can go to posts 894-897 of this thread for the full matches. Your characters will be under the name MRGREEN, which is who WitchKing took over for.

Bracket 1:
3. Norman Osborne
51. Crimson Cowl (Justine Hammer)
55. Mr. Fantastic

Bracket 2:
12. Steel Spider
53. Doctor Doom

Bracket 3:
1. Thing
56. Baron Strucker
59. Mr. Hyde

Bracket 4:
49. Tiger's Beautiful Daughter

Bracket 5:
12. Alkhema
38. Moonstone
50. Stature
51. Charcoal

Bracket 6:
59. Boomerang

Bracket 7:

Baron Strucker... Norman Osborn... Boomerang?!?!?!

Oh man, this does not look good.

Harrier vs Pagan?

USAgent vs Abomination?!

Boomerang vs Maelstrom?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Oy.....

It doesn't bother me unless it's blatantly sacreligious... such as with Preacher. I'm not an easily offended Christian.
