The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

Did we already do a 2099 list? We definitely should if we haven't.

I'd rather keep it confined to the main Marvel universe (616 mostly), and keep offshoots like Malibu and Ultimate out of it.

We have an X-Men 2099 list, which I moved Spider-Man 2099 to. I figure we'll expand that into a full 2099 list when we get to it.

Keep
Archangel
Banshee
Beast
Cable (Telepath)
Cannonball
Charles Xavier
Colossus
Cyclops
Emma Frost
Forge
Gambit
Iceman
Jean Grey
Joseph
Kitty Pryde
Lifeguard
Nightcrawler
Psylocke (Crimson Dawn) - Do we still want the Crimson Dawn version?
Rogue - What powerset do we want her at?
Stacey X - I don't care much for her but her powers could be creatively used in this tournament.
Storm
Sunfire (Famine)
Wolverine

Potential
Husk (AoA) - Man I hate putting her here, but I think we can do better. Hopefully she'll win me over in the picking from Potentials round.

Drop
Dazzler
Longshot
Marrow
Thunderbird III

Move
Bishop - X-Men Villains... and man do I hate that!
Chamber - Is Decibal in the New Warriors section.
Juggernaut - X-Men Villains as of last issue of X-Men Legacy
X-23 - X-Other

Also... some Notes:

ROGUE - Her current version I think is just normal Rogue with Mystique's mind inside of hers. That's kinda lame. So do we want Rogue with Sunfire powers, with Ms. Marvel Powers, or with any Mutant Powers from the late 90's? I actually wouldn't mind the any mutant powers. She was hardcore back then, nearly a top tier of this tournament and could really go the distance.

PSYLOCKE - I'm not familiar with her anymore since she joined the Exiles. How is she over there, anyone know? I know the Crimson Dawn version had her with telekinetic and telepathic abilities and she could travel through shadows. I've always been fond of this version myself. I say keep it.

Potential
Archangel (which version are we talking?)
I'd say the current X-Force version. He can switch from the feathery playboy to the deadly Apocalypse Angel of Death at will (and he's a little crazy when he does). I think it's an interesting character.

Joseph (do we need Joseph if we're going to have Magneto?)

I was thinking about that, but then Joseph is a younger Magneto with no limitations short of his own nobility. Technically he's more powerful than Magneto.

Lifeguard (don't her powers only work when she's defending someone?)

They work when she's defending herself as well. However, she can also go Shi'ar Feral and go rage holy war on those attacking her whiel she's defending herself. And typically she can use whatever power she has defending herself as an offensive manuever as well. I had her in the past tournament or two and I'm pretty sure I did well with her.

Character Questions:

Psyclocke - Crimson Dawn or current?
Rogue - Sunfire, Ms. Marvel, or Mutants powerset?

Also... how are we on Cable? Do we still want the Telepathy version from around Onslaught... which would still give him the struggle with the T.O. virus and he wouldn't know what's gone on since then? Do we want his current version? I'm not too familiar with him since I can't stand to read Bishop as the villain he now is. I'm okay with the Onslaught era telepath myself.

They don't officially count but they help during ties and split decisions and such. If I'm torn on a character and see that both W and you want that person kept or dropped and Phaed hasn't posted yet (example) then I'll typically go with the masses. Or if I see a split coming after W and Phaed's voted and I'm torn, then I'll look at what you've posted and strongly consider it.

So though your vote isn't counted in the main 3, it doesn't mean it's a waste of time. We just needed to keep the votes at 3 to keep it odd (and less likely for ties).

Actually Powder, I consider your votes when I'm doing my voting, too. So, I'd love to know your opinion. It helps me quite a bit.

Well dagnabit you did! I'll compile the list in a moment and post the next grouping.

Okay, I'll go ahead and post the next grouping in my following post, but just to cover the previous one. I went ahead and changed my votes for Marrow and Joseph to Potential to stop a 3 way split, and that way we can debate them later if we desire to. I also realized that Sunfire is still with the Marauders so I moved him to the villains section as well. We also need definate classifications for Psylocke, Rogue, and Cable. My opinions are as followed:

Psylocke - During her Crimson Dawn days she was telepathic, telekinetic, and could travel through shadows. Currently she is only telekinetic but immune to psionic tamperings of others (such as telepaths, Virtego, Notcturn's body snatching, Proteus' reality warping, etc). Both versions sound okay but I think I'd prefer her Crimson Dawn days myself.

Cable - What the heck are Cable's powers these days? And at what level are they? They've been up and down since Before the Twelve storyline so I say just go with the last constant, which was around the Onslaught timeframe/Post AoA. He was a very powerful telepath that still kept his TO virus in check, thus limiting his mind. I say stick with that.

Rogue - I prefer the late 90's Rogue with all the powers of anyone she's touched (Wolverine, Colossus, Cyclops, etc.). However, if that is too uber then I say the original Ms. Marvel powerset, though that sets her experience WAY back. NOTE - This has now been resolved.

Also.... I realized while about halfway through that list that I skipped the X-Other category, so we'll just do that one next.

I just realized you guys probably aren't subscribed to the bulletin board thread, so I'll let you know here that my computer just gave up on me. Looks like I'll be buying a new one. So my posting will be iffy the for a while, although I'll start bringing my work laptop home.

As for the X-Men, I like that version of Warren you described, JH, so I'll confirm a keep vote for him. I'm also going to change my vote and say Joseph as potential.

I'm fine with whatever version of Psylocke, but I think we said this season we wold always use the latest version of a character unless they were tuber.

So, for all three (Psylocke, Cable, Rogue), we should use whatever version they were at the end of last year.

For Cable, I don't know what that means because I haven't read anything with him since sometime during Cable/Deadpool.

For Rogue, I need some clarification of what's happened to her. So now she's essentially Mystique in Rogue's body, with Rogue's powers?

That sucks. Do you think you'll still be able to help finish up this list or would it be better to get Powder to take your place for a while? Can you actively participate once the Contest gets up and running? How long until you get a new computer?

I'm fine with whatever version of Psylocke, but I think we said this season we wold always use the latest version of a character unless they were tuber.

No, it was current unless otherwise stated (save powerless M-Day mutants, because that should be obvious). Current Psylocke can be fine, she's just a much less powerful character, and being that she was Crimson Dawn last season I was offering to keep it. However we probably should use her current version, which really isn't a slouch to be sure.

Cable's powers have been up and down, from hardly any, to all powerful telepath/telekinetic, to techno Internet man, to whatever he is now... thing is, I don't know what he is now. Does he have telekinesis? Telepathy? What? His power levels are confusing when you don't read him regularly. That's why I'd rather just go with his Onslaught era time because I think it was the best defined, as were his weaknesses.

And Rogue, she has no other powers than her own power sucking ability, but she has Mystique running around in her head. She hasn't even shown the ability to shape change like Mystique. She's just going crazy is all. The current is a very weak Rogue. Either her late 90's multi-mutant version, her Sunfire powerset, or her original Ms. Marvel version would be best to go with.

Her Ms. Marvel version is the one I know best. But, if her current version isn't any good, then we should go with what she was just before it.

And I'll still be able to participate. I've got my home laptop, whenever I can get it away from my sister. And my work laptop. I'll probably be either ordering a new computer, or the parts to put a computer together, over the next couple of days.

Cool.

And the previous version of Rogue was after she took Sunfire's powers. I'm not against this, as it's good reasoning. It's not my favorate version by far but since we have a 3 way tie on which powerset to use I'll go ahead and go with this. So she has Sunfire's powerset (fire, flying, etc. No longer invincible or super strong) and her character's experiences are good up until just prior to Messiah Complex. I think this is the fairest compromise.

As for Cable I guess it's also fairest to go with his most recent status. I know he's much weaker than his Burnt Offering stage, so he's not too uber, but he's still strong enough to be a presence.

And I just remembered that we already did Psylocke in the Exiles list, so she's already approved as current anyhow.

Now let's finish up these villains.
