The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

If I remember right, I have a bio of Major Oak in one of my Handbooks. I'll see if I can give you guys some better information about him.

Remember, this week is different from last week. Debating goes until Wednesday; so, Hellstormer has until Tuesday afternoon to get his opening debate up. (Plus, there is one contest he's waived the white flag on, which is Morbius vs. Quasar.) I'm not sure if that's your match or not.

No that one is mine.

4 Days until vacation!!!

Yesterday, I bought both kids their own portable DVD player. I even found a pink one for my daughter. They each have their own headphones (again, pink for my daughter), and they can watch their own shows in peace. For a 19 hour straight drive, it's essential I keep these two entertained!

For me and my mom, I'll have my ipod, and I'll buy a book on CD, too. I just have to figure out which book I want to hear.

As both kids tend to argue from time to time, my mom was wanting something to put between them; so, neither will encrouch on their space. I told her yesterday, I'll grab one of my comic small boxes, and they can put their DVDs and toys in it...and, it also gives a nice body barrier, too.

I am guessing somebody lucked out getting him and had no idea who he was.

Nah, I've gone through a Death's Head II kick this past year and he was pretty fresh in my mind as someone I thought was cool, so I placed him decently high on my list. I'll have to root through the comics he's in to refresh my memory of him though.

That would be awesome, as I seriously can't find any information for Major Oaks on the 20 or so websites that I pull information from. The only reason he is probably on marvunapp is b/c they specialize in characters that are not common.

Yeah I was just pointing it out as I was reading everyone's debate. That was his only match.

I seee you are someone who uses his prep time to full effect to prepare for such a potentially chaotic event.

19 hours :wow: hope you are taking a few pit stops along the way.

This is my fourth time doing a straight drive down. I leave about 8-9 PM at night, and that way the kids will (hopefully) sleep 1/2 the drive in the car.

Ya know, I'm dying for a new type of game for one of my son's gamestations. It's all the usual sporting games (Madden, MBL '09), Guitar Hero games (neat when they first came out; but, seriously, I'm bored with them now), and first-person shooters. I am excited about the Batman-Dark Asylum game...and, a new one, called "I Am Alive." (That is a survival game set in Chicago, after a massive earthquake.) Still, I miss the old Lucas Arts games, like Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island.

Wow! I've been reading the other debates, and some have me rethinking my initial thoughts on the matches!

Yea I folded this weeks match for me since there's no reason for me to waste my time or my opponent's time on a match we know the outcome of regardless of debating.

Cool beans.

Btw has Hellstormer been around? He hasn't touched his one debate this week.

Ugh I was looking at who I have next week, and it's not going to be easy. I am going against Thor, Spider-Man, Korg and....Major Oak???

I can only find this one bio on him, but it doesn't say much. http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/majoroak.htm

BTW, he is only listed with three appearances so I think he should be considered to be removed next season as I don't think he has enough history to go back on.

I looked through all my handbooks, and found nada! (I was thinking of Major Mapleleaf, I think.)

I believe JH recommended this character; so, maybe he had an additional site with him in it.

boo-urns...:( Thanks for trying.

I might have to do with the one bio then.

I like the part in the bio that says, "He is also an expert tracker and assassin, if a little slow on the uptake."

There is a lot that will be interpreted in that last part, I think..haha.

HAHAHA (christ you made me laugh out loud which is actually hard to do).

"My name is Forest Gump...people call me Forest Gump."

I can't go back and read the issue at the moment because my wife's asleep in the bedroom and I don't want to wake her... but I'm pretty sure he wasn't THAT slow. I'm going to go back and see if that was the original bio I found for him or if there was another.

Okay, found when I suggested him and that is indeed the same bio I used for him.

However, Phaed made a comment that he did find him in a handbook but passed because his ratings were too low. If it helps you look for him, he's a Death's Head II character from the Marvel U.K. line. I've never read a handbook so I don't know exactly how they're laid out.

Yeah phaed just said last night he made a mistake and possibly confused him with Major Mapleleaf, so apparently he isn't in the handbook. Like I said, I searched through all the websites I am aware of and I have tried different variations of searches. ie Death's Head Villains, foes, just Death's Head, with quotations, without, adding bio, biography, looking under images....etc...he is just lot very well known.

I'll take another look-see; but, don't think I'll find him. Ya never know, though.

BTW, just to clarify about the Texas Twister vs. Lord Templar match, JH and I PMed each other, and both agree on the following. As JH said it well enough, I'll just paste his answer below:

"While the security is off I think all other functions of the building would be functioning, including the robot receptionist. TT convincing her would be up to voters to believe or not. I think that'd be understandable."

I don't think whether the receptionist was functioning was being debated; but, I want to make sure the voters understand that she would be active.

WOW, seriously crazy to leave this to the last minute.

I don't have time today to debate any further.

I will just state the following:

1. Texas Twister still has to find Roberta. He isn't going to pop up in the same room as her, so he needs to locate her and search throughout the building for her.
2. He would need time to find Roberta. While Lord Templar will be searching for him directly and as soon as the match starts.
3. He would need the time to explain the situation to Roberta. While Lord Templar is actively searching for him. (he could keep teleporting throughout the building to find him quicker)
4. This whole argument (which is thrown in last minute), also depends on whether or not Roberta would believe him and actually take action. While Lord Templar could in at any of this time and fry Texas Twister as soon as he sees him.
5. Even IF TT avoids all these bumps in the road and IF Roberta believes him and actually takes action, and somehow Lord Templar hasn't found TT for some inexplicable reason and the security systems actually activate and go after Lord Templar. Lord Templar can become intangible, he can teleport outside the building, he has shields that can deflect the attacks, he has durability that can go toe-to-toe with Thor, the list goes on.
So many if's and but's it makes your head spin.
6. They first say they don't want the security systems to fight on the characters behalf and now they give a small possibility at the last minute that there is a chance (a small but chance nonetheless). Even though he himself has no capability to do this, seems pretty darn cheap. So if you are fighting a villain might as well put it in your debate before the polls close....

I will put this in the thread to but since you put this announcement here, I think I have the right to argue it.

When talking about Roberta before, I stated:

"I have my interpretation on this; but, ideally, it comes down to the voter what they are going to believe. If an opponent believes one thing, and you do not, it's going to come down to the voter to decide. All you can do is fight for or against the argument, (being as civil as can be) and state why you think it's rational or ludicrous."

After reading your debates for the first time yesterday, I figured this was an important part that needed further clarifying, and sought out JH for a mutual decision. I found it that important; but, I didn't see you disputing Roberta being active, just the security systems are down when you start a battle.

I apologize for the timing. I don't always get to reading all the debates right away, especially on the weekends, when most of my time is spent with the kids. There is still over 24 hours left to dispute and debate, though.

Prep-time can't be taken on the battlefield. (The possible exception would be if it's the character's battlefield. If Mr. Fantastic was fighting this week, he'd be allowed prep-time in the Baxter Building.)

My two-cents. I agree, the security systems are shut down when the match starts. But we do say, if it's possible for a character to access a building's computer systems and turn the security on, that's ok.

Well, Roberta is part of the building's computer systems. And if the Twister can use her to access the systems (as opposed to using a keyboard), then it's fair game. The question becomes not if Roberta can be used to activate the security, but can Twister use Roberta to do so. That's what Franklin's going to have to convince the voters. Because if the Twister can't, than he's not going to be using the security systems.
