Fantasy The official Disney Classics Live-Action Remakes

Ah, The Three Caballeros... the only Disney Classic I dislike. Out of 56 movies, this is the only one that I can't stand.

And what would the remake be about, anyway? The original has no plot, it's just randomness.

You liked Saludos Amigos, but not Three Caballeros? That seems odd. Is there a reason why? I don't think I've come across someone before who prefers the first one.

The resemblance is uncanny, they may have been separated at birth.

No, he wears pants too often to be Donald. Fetch me Stellan Skarsgard!

LOL!

Compared to their more classic feature films or shorts, these and their subject mater might not hold up as well, as they are not regular features or even anthology-shorts, but bizarre package-films with several self-contained shorts (travel-logs) with only a very loose plot holding them together.
Commissioned by the state department as somewhat "propaganda" for North American business interest at the time, in the region.

So yeah straight forward comparing them to the regular features seems a little absurd. (as far as technical merits, I believe Caballeros had some innovations in combining live-action with animation)

What they did however, is introduce two charming and beloved (by some) new characters and friends for Donald;

José Carioca and Panchito Pistoles, as a traveling trio, which could be ripe for some reinvention.
The idea of following the trend of everything being recast in live-action, is meant to be a bit outrageous.:cwink:

For those in, I'd go one further and cast Bitbull as Miguelito ^.

Rodrigo Santoro as Aracuan ^

Pedro Pascal as Condorito! Cause Chile just went ahead and made up their own.

;) And add several more lady Aves.

Why would anyone dislike Saludos Amigos? It's basically three Disney shorts strung together. It's harmless, cute and, most importantly, it's short. Three Caballeros on the other hand is over an hour of nonsense, and not of the entertaining kind.

Well, except for the Aracuan bird scene, of course.

I am personally waiting for Aladdin, Naomi Scott now is one of few of Western/Hollywood actress that I really like. So, I am excited for the movie comes out.

And for the others, I wonder if there is a project for Hunchback of Notredame? It is one of my favorite Disney classic. When I watching it when I was child, It is a dark story and tone compared to the other DIsney movies, but I grown to like it more now to become one of my favorites.

Unlikely, the '96 movie was (and still is) controversial enough. They're not gonna commit the same mistake again. Same for Pocahontas.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Hunchback for some reason. Would like to out of curiosity, and for completeness.

It's absolutely worth a watch. It has some of the best and most powerful sequences ever crafted by Disney, the score is amazing and for the most part the main characters (especially Frollo) are great. But it's also a movie that has severe tonal problems and three of the most annoying and out-of-place sidekicks you'll ever see in a Disney film.

Some people would also argue that it completely misses the point of the original novel, but personally speaking I don't really care.

Do we have a full list of their in-production live action remakes?
What is or isn't on the table?

Lindsay Ellis has a magnificent video essay up on her YouTube channel discussing Hugo's novel and the Disney adaptation along with the other notable versions.

Hunchback is definitely worth a look, it's got some incredible top-notch performances and animation in there. However, the gargoyles were a serious misstep. I know what Disney was trying to do there but it just doesn't work. I think it's mostly Jason Alexander's character of Hugo who's the biggest problem, they wrote him as too zany and slapsticky. If they'd just dropped him or toned him way down it would have been better.

Yep, I've already seen it, and it really is great. So are her Hercules and Pocahontas/Moana videos, for that matter.

My niece was over and she showed me a new Disney princess I wasn't aware of, elena of avalor. It was actually really cool! It was set in a Latino loundscape full of magic. They should totally do a live action version of it. Have you seen it?

I could see Victoria justice as elena and Diego boneta as the duke. Interested to know if you've seen it and who you would cast?

'Lilo & Stitch' Live-Action Disney Remake in the Works (Exclusive)

Lilo & Stitch, the 2002 animated movie from Walt Disney Feature Animation, is getting the live-action treatment, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The studio has hired up-and-comer Mike Van Waes to pen the script for the remake that will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback. The two are already known in the Disney halls as they working on the high-profile live-action remake of Aladdin.

It is unclear whether the feature project, which is intended to be a live-action/CG hybrid, is intended for theatrical release or for Disney's streaming service that launches in 2019.

Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is co-producing.

The feature project is the latest in Disney’s successful strategy of mining their past animated classics and re-purposing them as live-action tentpoles events. Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Pete’s Dragon are some of the recent releases with Dumbo, The Lion King and Aladdinamong those heading moviegoers’ way in the future.

Van Waes is better known in Hollywood circles as a writer of horror fare. He wrote The Crooked Man, based on a character from New Line’s The Conjuring 2and that is being developed as a Conjuring Universespinoff. He also wrote Not in Kansas, a Wizard of Oz-themed horror project also set up at New Line. He is repped by CAA and Grandview.

Oh come on, the original movie came out only 16 years ago.

Anyone keeping track of how many are filming and how many are just in the script stages for these Disney live-action remakes. I feel like they've announced pretty much all of them.

It would be probably easier to list which movies they aren't remaking.

I’m surprised they haven’t announced a sword in the stone remake yet, that would be a great choice.

Christian Nairn as sir ector. Michael Caine as Merlin

I thought I heard somewhere that they were redoing Sword in the Stone? I remember wondering if they were going to do something about the super jokey 1960s ending.

Honestly Mulan and Lion King are the only ones I'm excited about. Mulan because I love the character and I've been waiting for a live-action adaptation of the story for years, and Lion King because you know it's going to be pure eye candy.

All the others ones... well, I'll obviously watch them, but if Disney for some reason decided to cancel them I wouldn't care.

They have and they are.

I wish there was news about The Black Cauldron for the simple fact that it wasn't done well the first time so it would actually be the perfect film for Disney to remake and do right.
