The Official Fables Thread

Still then, if you disbelieve the Jungle Book to be the stuff of Fables, then Pinocchio (and in retrospect the WHOLE EMPIRE) can't be considered Fables either. They are traceable back to a singular story.

True. Although I didn't know that about Pinocchio until just now. Just seems odd, is all. And my main problem isn't that the novels don';t fit the classic definition of a fable, but that it just seems odd how characters could come to our world in the 1600s and yet apear in novels in the 1800s. At least, without influencing the authors personally.

You're trying to read too much into it, Q. Just sit back and enjoy the best book on the stands right now. :o :(

Okay. You're probably right. But why the sad face?

It works fine if you just broaden the definition of "fable" in the comic to include all literature. Everything seems to be fair game for Willingham.

It's for you for reading too much into it instead of just enjoying the greatness that is Fables.

True. Which then brings me to a thought I had: If the characters we're reading about are the Europian Fables, then what exactly would count as American Fables? I'm just bringing this up because I thought it would be interesting if they had the likes of Bugs Bunny representing the American Fables.

Who said I wasn't enjoying it? Can't someone get a little caught up on a strange detail and still enjoy something?

American Fables would be things like: Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, John Henry, and my personal favorite (because the real person is back in my family tree) Davy Crockett.

Probably the tall tales like Paul Bunyan and the Native American folktales.

Yeah. Forgot about those. Why do I suck so much? :(

but will we then be seeing Crash Bandicoot, Mad Max, James Bond, and Master Chief?

Master Chief being in one comic is too much. I don't want him to ruin Fables.

Except that you didn't mention the Native American folktales, you white devil. :o
But I mentioned a personal family member. Can you do that?!? And now I have his theme song stuck in my head :(

Seeing as my family's not from the United States, I imagine I couldn't. That doesn't make you any less of a jerk, though. Go peddle your firewater to some more poor Native American souls. :o

Technically NO family is from the United States. Not even the Native Americans. They're from Russia :o

Actually, that's not true. The United States came into existence in the late-18th century. All families born in the region after that point are "from the United States." My family is not.

Damn your logic :cmad: Mine migrated over after the formation of the States then, so that would mean mine isn't either, right? Davy's grandma was the first generation of our family in the U.S. I do believe. I'd have to check my Grandpa's autobiography/family tree.

Well, if Davy's grandmammy was born in the US, then your family would be "from the United States" starting with her, wouldn't they? Just like mine'll be "from the United States" after my sister or I have our own grubby spawn someday, provided we have them here.

Noone wants you to breed Corp, so... just don't. Where are you from then?

Guyana. It's a little hole-in-the-wall country on South America's northern coast.
