Not being able to keep playing after you finished the main quest is kinda.. silly (to say the least)

If I ever get that.

I imagine, keep playing the game, after getting the girl killed--what's her name? Anyway, I can see people pointing at you and calling you coward :hehe:

the forthcoming DLC is supposed to fix that....
Unfortunately, Bethesda is the type to charge for DLC even on the PC. I'd much rather see a free patch that unlocks the game beyond the final main quest mission than a bunch of pay DLC that happens to include the unlock. There's still plenty to see with what the game originally comes with if you don't obsessively go everywhere and do every little thing before completing the main quest.

The fact that PC content has generally been free. Valve releases periodic updates to Team Fortress 2 with new content and only charges if it's a really, truly significant batch of content--I'm talking huge, like the Half-Life 2 episodes. Bethesda, on the other hand, used to release free add-ons until Oblivion, at which point they decided to start nickle-and-diming their customers for things like horse armor and one or two new buildings. If that's Bethesda's plan for Fallout 3 as well, I'll probably do what I did with Oblivion: skip all of the official DLC and stick to the free mods that the PC gaming community loves to create. Most of them are better than what Bethesda puts out anyway.

Actually, come to think of it, there's probably already a user-made mod that unlocks the game past the final main quest mission. I think I'll go check the mod sites.

I can't do mod stuff, it's like reading fan-fiction or watching fan-films....and I don't do that...at all...maybe I'm just stuck up, I like my licensed content, not something some virgin cooked up in his basement

Half of the mods for Oblivion were better than the DLC Bethesda released.

This is the reason why it is better to play Bethesda games on PC than on a console.

I don't really understand how. When you beat the game it doesn't save afterwards, so the last save you have is just before you do your final task and the end cinema rolls.

I have a save right before the last mission so I'm circumventing that issue....

I have one there too, and I'm planning on doing the same with my new game. I just don't get what they mean by continuing after the final mission.

Yea, but you cant expect devs to give you things like Oblivions Shivering Isles or BioWares Bring Down the Sky and not charge for it in todays market. I dont have a problem paying for things, even horse armor, because that takes time for the devs to make. They dont just snap their fingers and then theres horse armor. Now, i dont mind paying, but im not gonna pay if i think the price doesnt match the DLC's value. Take Playstation HOME for example, 2 dollars for a virtual chair??? I think not.

I cant even imagine playing this or Oblivion on the consoles. Its soo much better on the PC

That's actually my point: I don't think the smaller little extra articles of clothing or armor or whatever are worth it, so I'm not willing to pay for them. Substantial things like actual expansion packs (which is what Shivering Isles and Bring Down the Sky are), sure, charge away (up to a point, obviously). But short of those, if modders are out there putting out the same kinds of things for free that the devs are charging for, I'm going to go with the modders' free stuff, especially since it's sometimes even better than the official stuff.

I guess my perspective is if i like the game and like the developer behind it, i dont mind paying for some DLC, regardless of size, if i want it. I mean thats their job, so i dont mind paying for their services.

I dont think its even remotely worth the price of a high end PC tho. I used to work with a guy who had an incredible set up, cost him upwards of 4 grand and i remember seeing him run Oblivion and while it deff looked much better than what was running on the PS3/360, it didnt make me want to start saving for a PC.

It's definitely more expensive, but if you're planning to get a decent computer or upgrade to a decent level anyway, which I do every 5 years or so now, the PC versions do tend to look better.

I just read something from someone at Valve on this, actually. I think someone quoted it in a post right here on the Hype--but basically the gist of it was that Valve's free DLC releases tend to generate as much or more income through increased sales of the game itself than what other companies' make on their pay-DLC.

Good point.

Ah, yea that makes sense. I actually bought Oblivion when it came out but, for some odd reason traded it in. Once they released Shivering Isles, i got the urge to play it again so i bought another copy then the DLC. Needless to say i dont trade in games anymore.

Steam's great for that. I tend to uninstall games after I'm done playing them, but Steam has your list of purchases that you can always download the local content for again, so it's not a problem to reinstall it if I get the urge to play it again. :)

Granted, that doesn't really help console users at all.

Haha, no it doesnt. Altho i dont think id even use Steam if i were a PC user. I just cant get into the whole download software yet. I still much rather have a hard copy.

The amount of clutter I've got in my apartment, I'll take anything I can get in digital form at this point. Much simpler and more streamlined.
