The Official ''Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald” Thread

To me, the most telling bit is how a lot of the positive reviews ride that line of, "is it good though". I can't believe they made another movie all about setup.
I knew that would happen ever since they announced there would be four sequels to Fantastic Beasts. There's gonna be a lot of unnecessary padding in there considering we still have another three movies to go after this.

What exactly is the culmination of this series supposed to be, the 1945 fight betweent Dumbledore and Grindelwald?

No one has any clue. But that would be hilarious. The culmination of the series not having anything to do with the main character of the series. :funny:

Yikes 57% in Rt.

I always thought the first one is quite unappealing especially I found the cast so bland and the second one didn't give me chills with its trailers. If this wasn't connected to the previous films, this would have been an easy pass. Just move on to something else, instead of these Newt central films.

LOL at Rowling and her fanservice. This will hopefully catch heat for what they do with Queenie here.

So is anybody going to go to the Earlier Showings tonight? I got a ticket tonight and I can't wait to see if this ones going to better than the 1st one.

Critics Consensus: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has glimmers of the magic familiar to Harry Potter fans, but the story's spell isn't as strong as earlier installments.

Meh I never rely on RT to tell if a movie is bad or good. Most of the time I seem to disagree with the ratings of that film.

I had absolutely no interest in HP but gave the 1st one a go as the trailers looked good. Ended up loving FB so looking forward to this one. Heard mixed reviews but will see it regardless.

I am going to see it regardless. But that said, if this one is not better than the 1st one, then I am not really going to be excited for these FB movies moving forward. If you give me 2 mediocre films to begin your new prequel series, why would I assume after 2 mediocre outings that they will suddenly be amazing? 1 is a fluke and 2 is a trend. So, they really need to win me over with this one.

Are the previous movies directed by David Yates as confusing as this one? Because I was kind of in a haze and didn't know exactly what the characters wanted and what their purposes were (and there were lots of characters pursuing different things), though near the end the plot was more clear. I didn't get this feeling when seeing the first Fantastic Beasts and I read all the Harry Potter books before so I wasn't confused when seeing those movies either. Editing was kind of choppy and all over the place though. Besides at the beginning of the movie I tried to keep track of "how this person knew about this place and just suddenly be there" but then I gave up because I couldn't remember everything.

Anyway at least the magic action is good, especially at the very beginning and the one near the end. At times I felt that the movie was kind of political, but then I realized that Grindlewald's rise and idealism was sort of based on those of the Nazi fascism, and some of what happened just before World War II are kind of familiar to some of what is happening now, so I don't think Rowling was being political when she wrote this.

I don't know whether this has been mentioned before in this thread (I think it has) but if you're scared of snake then it's best to look away when
the circus man urging Nagini to turn into a snake,
the 3D was really real.

Just lovely. :barf:

The snake bit dude. It's a continuing struggle.

Joke aside, if the animation of Nagini is on par with Deathly Hollows, I'm good, but if it's even more realistic, ... I can already feel my skin crawling.

It's Wed before release, and RT only has 67 reviews. That feels strange. That said more reviews added, and it's back down to 51%. What really took a shot was the average. That is down to 5.9/10.

This may go below 50%!!!! :wow:

Wow, I’m genuinely surprised at this’ reception. Never would’ve imagined it’d drop this low, let alone probably going to be lower.

This really kills my excitement.

I'll be curious to see if there are changes to the creative team with the third film which barring a complete collapse Box Office wise will probably still happen. I think WB would be wise to suggest Rowling has a co-writer who can translate her story into script form and perhaps replace David Yates with a new director.

A few people have already put spoilers online, most of which I think we already predicted.

So, it's just bloated with subplots & references and strayed too far from the Pokemon gimmick of the first?

Damn, the critical reception of this is just embarassing especially the first 8 Harry Potter films are all fresh in Rt. Well it took 10 films for Wb to get a rotten Hp related film. It doesn't sound bad compare to other franchises but still. Hp had a decent track record, this film just tarnished it!
