The OFFICIAL FINAL CRISIS THREAD

yeah I figured that now.
Sorry, I was a jack-ass there :csad:

I finished Countdown 4 earlier and we now know about one of Grant Morrison's teases [BLACKOUT]about why Super-girl and Mary Marvel fight. Mary Marvel has gone evil again. Thing is it doesn't make sense in Countdown! [/BLACKOUT]

We also have Superman leading a legion and superman prime leading one and a third legion and alpha lanterns.

I think Grant Morrison can write about anything well but his plate is getting loaded for Final Crisis. There are so many things he is going to have fix and deal with! It's almost becoming comical. Any other writer and I may be afraid but I'm going to have to trust Grant Morrison. Thing is, I'm still a bit more excited about this than I am Secret Invasion. And Secret Invasion 1 wasn't half bad.

Hey everyone. I'm looking forward to Final Crisis, though I haven't really been overly keeping up with the build-up. I bought some issues of Countdown and Salvation Run, but didn't really enjoy either much.

Here's just a question, that sprang to mind. I'm thinking all the villains stuck on that planet in Salvation Run will be tying into the events of "Final Crisis". But one major villain who is oddly conspicuous by his absence (from that title and elsewhere) is Deathstroke. After his actions in Countdown, the last time he was seen was - I believe - in "Justice League of America", gathering information on the secret identities of the JLA. Then...nothing.

Anyone think he's gonna have any kind of role to play in the upcoming "Final Crisis"? I'd think if they were wanting to just throw him on the big villain team being gathered by Libra, they'd have put him in "Salvation Run". Could this indicate he may have a bigger role? Or are the writers just leaving him out all-together?

I just like my fave characters getting to do stuff in the big events. I was disappointed in Joker's lack of involvement in "Infinite Crisis"..... until the final issue, of course... :woot:

Final Crisis is described as the "Day Evil Won." So I'm sure Deathstroke will be appearing somewhere. And I mean, in more than just a splash. But, I think Final Crisis is going to be high-level villainy. Not that Deathstroke isn't a great villain, and not that he isn't powerfuil, but we had a Deathstroke fight in the last Crisis. This going to be about people like Darkseid, Libra, Mary Marvel and villains of that level.

Yeah, you're probably right. :csad: But hey, a small appearance would be enough to make me happy. :woot:

Final Crisis looks like it has a much grander scale than what we're used to seeing Deathstroke in. Maybe a tie-in, but Final Crisis is Galactic Wide, Universe shattering ****.

Alright so I haven't read a DC comic in a long time, and I'm going to try picking up Final Crisis.... I'm screwed aren't I?

Not really. FC is supposed to be reasonably self-contained. Just pick up DC Universe #0 coming in...hmm, three weeks, and you'll probably be fine. The only thing you really have to know is that the Source has been killing off the New Gods and Darkseid's taking advantage of it.

And Mary Marvel is inexplicably evil... but that wouldn't have made sense even if you read Countdown...

It's just her time of the month.

Her last "time of the month" lasted for months. :o

And just ended like two weeks ago. :o :o

Oh and apparently there's some Legion-related stuff that's gonna factor, but I haven't been reading that either and I think I'll be fine.

Case in point, DC Universe #0 cover:

That's pretty cool. Maybe I'll get DC Universe #0 after all. I'm all about the Legion again.

What they are doing to her is just a travesty. It is out and out disrespectful to the character and to the fans. They are dragging a good character through the mud. But maybe I'm too harsh. Maybe they have a good story to tell. But they didn't have a good story to tell. They couldn't decide if Black Adam was the evil powers or if it was Eclipso or if it was Mary. Then they forgot that what Mary hereself had decided and just said "let's make her evil." They don't even care anymore. ("They," is mean to mean the Countdown writers.)

Now Grant Morrison, who's name I'm never sure how to spell for some reason, says he is going to take what is happening to Mary Marvel beyond all acceptable limits. Well that makes me want to nerd rage, because she is only evil because the writers were so bad at that story. He says fanboys will be happy but I don't know if he means because MM is fighting Supergirl or because of the outcome. I hope he doesn't think anyone who knows MM or has been reading Countdown (and has half a brain) could be happy at seeing Mary Marvel trashed so disrespectfully. And does anyone really care about Supergirl if she isn't being drawn by Ian Churchill? With that said, I trust Grant Morrison. MM may be evil and controlled by Darkseid, but that is such a weak story to write, so either MM changes back to good or she is probably going to be quietly done away with after Countdown (which is a waste of the Marvels, but they are superfluous in mind...)

I trust Grant. Final Crisis will be amazing. Most likely better than Secret Invasion, though I think Fantastic Four and Dark Tower will be the years best mainstream comics (not counting comics that ended this year but started last year). I can't wait for FC though.

Why wouldn't you get it? It's only 50/$ and it previews upcoming stories. AND it has Libra and the Human Flame on the cover. That's worth the price right there. :o

The Spectre just doesn't look right with Crispus as host. At least shave, dude.

What's the significance of the moon? I'm guessing something to do with the 3 Legions.

Oh, and juxtaposing Flashes never gets old. :cwink: Perez is the man.

Brainy 5 has the lightning rod *cough*Barry Allen*cough* in his hand.

Is that Luthor under Superman's left arm?

Saturn Girl looks like a dude here.

Sun Boy versus Human Flame, plz.

DC Universe 0 will be tight. They should've kept it as Countdown to Final Crisis 0 though, so at least we could say we had one legitimately good Countdown issue!

Honestly, I would have preferred a giant Countdown Clock on DC's website than 51 issues of garbage. I've been mostly reading Carlin's Friday updates on newsarama, and you can tell it's garbage. When you have to explain what's going on, I mean give these crazy convoluted answers to make any sense of what is going on issue to issue, then you know it's crap from a storytelling POV. Never mind the actual material...

For example, the whole Cap. Atom/Monarch thing. I think Beechen(?) tried to explain why Captain Atom turned evil and he honestly couldn't do it. Beechen had to resort to some jocular answer like "His name is Monarch! He's supposed to rule the multiverse!" :whatever:

The way Carlin has handled the storytelling of this reminds me of the way Silver Age Marvel handled continuity gaffes (of which there were an INCREDIBLE number), this sort of underhanded, laughing-at-the-fans-all-the-way-to-the-bank, oh-lookie-the-fanboys-are-eating-it-up ********. They didn't care about storytelling, and they'd toss off ****house answers when pressed. Carlin's done the same here. He must have such utter contempt for this mess of a book, and for those of us who've read the entire thing.

And hence, why Beechen shouldn't be near a comic book.

Seeing as Black Hand is featured on the cover and Didio mentioned that more hints about the Blackest Night will be in DC Universe 0, I was wondering if those silhouettes in the top right corner are in fact the undead that make up the ranks of the Black Lanterns?

Sometimes I wonder if you actually ever read Marvel... The way they handled this stuff was getting the fans to come up with solutions. That was the whole purpose of the "No Prize"

Sad thing is, they are involved in writing it! They don't know why it happened, they just knew they had to write something for 52 issues. It is so sad, and it isn't that we the readers suffer for a few issues we won't enjoy-- they're messing with characters and that has lasting implications.

And how about Superman-- storming the gates of apocalypse with Vixen and Black Canary? When Darkseid asks why the whole JLA didn't rain down on him, superman says-- He didn't want anyone else to get in his way? Like Batman was "in his way" last time Superman and Darkseid fought in Superman/Batman? Batman is never in anyones way. But seriously? Black Canary and Vixen? Is Superman absolutely stupid? Batman. Wonder Woman. Red Tornado. Green Lantern. Whatever, hack writing. Same reason the JLA didn't show up last issue even though they were right outside the JLA.
