The OFFICIAL FINAL CRISIS THREAD

I'm guessing because he'd be ****ting on all the work his fellow writer Judd Winick just did (or is still in the process of doing; who the **** cares anymore?) in Trials of Shazam.

Well, you answered it yourself.

And, if anything, I'd much rather see the Multiverse get re-destroyed and have everything consolidated back on one Earth. Who the hell really needs an Earth-5 or Earth-22 or whatever? Elseworlds for OOC stuff and one Earth for canon stuff worked just fine.

Well, I see it both ways. I think that a multiverse can be a really good tool when used properly. (See the original Earth-Two) But when you say there is 52 earths, and only 52, and here is Earth-Gotham by Gaslight, DC really limits themselves. I don't think I would mind it if every 20 years a new mainline earth is introduced, mantles are passed, and the past earth gets shuffled back in real time.

But anyway, my original point was why reintroduce this new Multiverse, when most of the critical stuff (JSA, Marvels, Freedom Fighters, Charlton) have already been incorporated into Earth-0?

Regardless of whether I like Trials or not, there are plenty of people who do. The updating of the Marvel family has been met with generally positive reviews, and there are several people right here on the Hype who enjoy the series. It'd be kind of an insult for Morrison to just undo it all with a wave of his hand about 3 seconds after it's done by killing the New Earth Marvels off in FC.

Bottomline is that the DCU should be ONE universe and ONE continuity! And I hope Final Crisis will do that.

paul dini kind of already did that in Countdown... lawlz!

Meh, I disagree, they just shouldn't go nuts with the alternate realities. Every once in awhile is good, but what they've been doing is ridiculous.

i wouldnt mind the multiverse if it didnt spill over into our continuity... use it to explore what-ifs/elseworlds and tell out of continuity stories... thats it.

I really like Marvel's approach to the Multiverse. They have one or two series that deal with it directly (Exiles, What If, sometimes Excalibur), but for the most part it's a non-issue. The main continuity is the one we all care about, and Marvel focuses on that one accordingly. Everything else they print is just considered out of continuity but understood to be fair game for Multiverse (or Omniverse--I can never remember which one Marvel calls it) stories down the line.

The only books that should be dealing with the Multiverse should be Booster Gold and a possible Liner Men book or something. I like the idea of a multiverse. It's a staple of the sci-fi/superhero genre, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Amen brotha.

Omniverse = everything in existence, including reality (the real reality; our reality)

And yes, I agree with your post. I would find DC a lot more accessible if (as the poster above described) the multiverse and its baggage was only dealt with in Booster Gold and one or two other books.

Marvel called their version of the multiverse omniverse, but I believe they only mentioned it once by the Hydra Sue Storm. I dont remember being said any other time but I could be wrong.

Really wondering how they're going to line this up with Kamandi.

It was referred to as the Omniverse by the Captain Britain Corps in the UK Captain Britain comics.

Kamandi is after the legion right? way after the 31st century?

It was always Kirby's own private DC future though. His OMAC/Kamandi universe was not the DC Universe.

i still want the idea of a superman 1 million to exist though, kamandi or not :(

Isn't Kamandi just supposed to be the last boy on Earth or something? Maybe everyone post-Kamandi is born pubescent. ;)

He just wasn't DCU, at least he wasn't Earth-1. I'm really not looking forward to the pretzel logic that allows him, Buddy Blank, Kirby Brother Eye, Batman Brother Eye, Batman OMACs, two Legions of Superheroes, and the One Million future to all coexist.

How could you not be looking forward to that?

Cuz if the person that tries to put it all together doesn't know wtf he/she is doing, it could become one huge convoluted pile of literary excrement.

Kind of like most of the Mega-Events of today?
