The Official Final Fantasy XII Thread

But if I wanted a "truely immersive world" with elves, orcs and all those other standard fantasy cliches, I'd play Everquest.

If your idea of a "truly immersive world" also includes hardcore jerks and annoying teenagers as well, hey, more power to you.

At least there's a chance I'd get to cyber or something...

Now that's just sad.

Hey, I put up with you, don't I? LOL. Yes, it is sad.

Anyways back on topic, man do I love Balthier. The guy is so calm, smooth, composed and charismatic, I'd want to be just like him in real-life. :O:up:

Wait, just a moment ago you were making it seem like you hated metrosexual pretty boys.

Well, actually I do and sort of disliked Balthier too when I first saw him in the hovercraft cutscene. But I ever since I heard the bugger speak with his nobleman-like speech and accent and his cool, sophisticated demeanor, I've grown to think of him as a pretty kickass character.

Does anyone else get a V vibe from Balthier?
My good god the voice work is amazing. It makes hollywood films look like hackneyed pieces of s***.

I know, the acting is superb and all the voice actors just click with their characters. The Judges sound noble, sophisticated and utterly badass. There's a real sense of respect between Basch and Vossler, as well as a mutual love of their homeland. The acting really is multi-faceted and engaging. I've never heard anything like it in a videogame before. :woot:

Neither have I. I sit here, play the game, and I am in awe of the brilliance of the voicework. Fran's voice has to be my favorite though, it just sounds sexy and fits her perfectly.

I don't play Final Fantasy. I live it. :word:

Actually, it's the only series that is a true RPG in every sense of the word. And the "generic fantasy hodgepodge" that was Oblivion was actually reviewed more favorably across the board (94% at Gamerankings) than FFXII (92%). LOL, talk about poetic justice. :D:up:

A true RPG leans more to Arcanum and Fallout. Now those were games that were great despite their lack of graphics. Fallout in particular truly rocked. Scourge of the Wastes...God I miss that title...

Never played a Metal Gear game, eh? ;)

At least those games could pronounce common words like "marquis". The recording quality of the vocals is sheer shame, I haven't heard anything that bad since Escape From Monkey Island.

And Wasteland, and....ohman. I need to track down Fallout....

Tangent time:I see/hear people (not here) whining about a lack of overworld map again "like 10", meaning "you don't get to choose where you go", it's "on rails".....I hate to break it to the kids, but it's always on rails. You can't change the time or destination of any plot points or how they happen. Getting a different screen between Narshe and Figaro didn't mean FF6 wasn't "on rails".

Star Trek movies:the even numbered ones are supposed to be the good ones. Final Fantasy games:the even numbered ones feature a main character who has a prominent facial scar.

"On rail" games are pretty storyline focused. Outside of Fallouts 1 and 2 (the best IMO), there are few RPGs out there, J or otherwise that allows players to truly sidetrack from the story and still have a few good kicks. Then Random Encounters system in Fallout was a thing of beauty because it truly was random and you never know whats gonna happen. If Japanese RPG makers catch on to this system of random encounters rather than random battles, it will give the games much higher replay value.

Dude, not that I'm endorsing it or anything...but why don't you try Bittorrenting it and using Daemon. Fallout's an old...old...old game and it won't be easy to come by. If you've got the speed and the space on your com, I suggest just downloading it

The writing in MGS is horrendous. The actors in FF12 have better material to work with. MGS characters sound like 80's cartoon characters.

"Marquis" can be pronounced numerous ways:

mar‧quis [mahr-kwis, mahr-kee; Fr. mar-kee]

noun, plural -quis‧es, -quis [-keez; Fr. -kee]
a nobleman ranking next below a duke and above an earl or count.

They probably went with an obscure version to make it sound more exotic, or unique to Ivalice.

Eh...two problems. One, basic principle of the thing. It IS an old game though.....

Two, until I finish building my new uberPC, it'd be really hard to get a PC game to play on a Mac. ;)

Fallout was great though, another prime example of why games like FF7/Halo/etc are so highly praised by console gamers....they have no clue just how far behind and shallow their gems are compared to PC titles. There'll eventually be a game like that for a console and it will be treated like some kind of new genre, despite actually being old hat.

Another minor gripe about FF12....the music is awful. Nothing remarkable about it yet. The opening cinematic had some decent stuff, but everything else has been meh and way to synthesized.

Hopefully this combat system will stick for future titles...

I find myself enjoying both types of games equally... I guess that means more fun for me.

Hmm. Kind of. Now that you mention it.

oh crap, I just finished MUA and Im really tempted to start playing FF12 but then I still have Yakuza and Bully to complete. I dont really feel like going back to them now but not sure if I want to start FF12 yet. Oh what the hell. I'll boot up my disc later tonight

Play FFXII. It's be better than pretty much any other game you own.

I think I will. Smackdown vs Raw 2007 and Tony Hawk 8 are coming out next but luckily those are games that can just be picked up and dropped and not story based games. I think I will start to actually play FF12. Dont see myself doing much else for the next few months...lol

That's a good boy. :yay:

Okay, I need some help. Right now I'm trying to get to Ashe and my team just can't beat the judges. Does anyone have any advice?

My characters basically did all the work on that one. If you're really desperate, run past them into the next room. There's a shop and save point.

Did you cast protect on your fighters? Also, try focusing on one judge at a time so you have less damage to worry about. If you're getting swarmed, disable a few enemies with slow or immobilize. I really didn't have to do that though. My characters just attacked and healed on their own.

Unless you're talking about Judge Ghis. But both battles are about the same difficulty wise.

So I can just skip Judge A and B? Thanks. What level were your characters when you was at that point?
