Comics The Official GAMBIT Discussion thread

I can say that I am officially sick of Gambit fans (except you guys - you know I love you). I actually had a discussion with a girl who was whining about movie-Gambit not being good enough. One of the first reasons she mentioned was that he didn't have a brown trench coat.

Meh, some fanboys/fangirls are a bit too over the top. All characters have them. It happens.

Gambit was the best thing about Wolverine's movie

^^ Seriously. :p He was the bestest. I got the actor I wanted from way back befroe the movie was even announced and thought he did a great job, given the script he had to work with. :D

But I find Gambit fans especially whiny. They are never happy with ANYTHING. It's no wonder writers don't wanna use him most of the time.

I agree. Nothing else really stood out for me.

Among her complaints:
1) He didn't have an alluring voice. (Was she not paying attention in the club scene? His voice was pitch-perfect. I think some people always want Gambit to sound exactly how he did in the animated series.)

2) He wasn't agile. (Are you serious? I guess all that jumping around and bo-staff fighting isn't a show of agility?)

3) He's telekinetic. (What supports that it is telekinesis he was using? How do you know that it isn't some kind of static control that he has over objects that he charges or something? And anyhow, that's cannon with UXM Gambit, so what's to whine about?)

4) He didn't have spatial awareness because Wolverine elbowed him. (Increased spatial awareness doesn't mean no one can ever hit you. That would be boring otherwise. Anyway, is that even one of Gambit's official powers? I'm not sure...)

/rant

I would say he has good spacial awareness, something that allows him to leap about and do well in close quarters, but to say it's hightened in any way? I'd say no. It's more like he's just really well trained in hand to hand fighting and very fast and confident.

Meh, I think you're just being over exposed to the wrong types of fans. I was pretty content with movie-Gambit, myself. Wasn't great, but that wasn't the character's fault - that movie was just bad from the get go. At least he finally got into a movie.

To slightly defend fans, though... Gambit's been pretty shafted the last 5-6 years comics-wise. Awful storylines, then when he did show up he'd just be an accessory to Rogue. It wasn't until recently he started getting to stretch his legs in the outside universe a bit.

Wow, this is going to be a good week for Gambit fans (though not for their wallets!)! Gambit is in the Age of X book (forgot which one), X-23, and X-Men (maybe something else, but I forgot). The boy is getting some love!

Gambit's all to brief in last week's Legacy:

Thanks Squeeks yet again! It's good to know that Gambit isn't the cause of Age of X, but I hope Carey resolves the Deathbit thing soon. I like Gambit in X-23 a lot because it pretty much ignores Deathbit.

I don't mind Deathbit if they at plan to go somewhere with it, you know? I hate to see my boy just hanging like this. :( That room he's hanging out in just looks too depressing. I don't like mopey Gambit.

Agreed! I mean, it's not like we don't already have a mopey, ex-Horseman of Death, duo-personality mutant with relationship issues already over in Uncanny X Force....:whatever:

It's just baffling that we keep dragging the Death storyline out, even though Gambit's on an island full of people that could probably help him... mainly because every other person on the island has been turned evil at one point or another. :whatever:

Can't we just get this story over with and let Gambit be Gambit?

Reposting for the sake of continuity -- Here's Gambit's most recent appearence, last week's Legacy #244.

Is Gambit really that hard to write? Give him a motorcycle, a pack of cigarettes, and a heist involving a seduction angle - there ya go.

I'm pretty sure that there's way more to Gambit than that.

Gambit's only appearance in the Age of X Alpha. :(

No love for Gambit fans just yet so far.
