Duking it out with wolverine to see who gets to be in front.

When you wear a trench coat, pink body armor, and are the only superhero to run around throwing explosive playing cards... it's hard to leave you off the cover.

At least someone finally recognized that Gambit does, in fact, deserve to be on one of these covers. He's played a much larger role in the X-verse than a lot of the other characters that've made the cut.

Legacy is supposed to do a crossover with Wolverine Origins sometime in september. Think there's any chance Gambit will still be around in Legacy? Maybe carey could write some follow up to their fight in Messiah complex.

I doubt it.

If there's a Wolvie/Legacy crossover, it'll be all about how Wolverine saw Chuck's life going to shambles all along or some BS to that extent.

More likely Carey would want to use Rogue in that kind of crossover anyway.

Just finished with #212.

For someone who's worked on such great characters as John Constantine and Lucifer, I'm surprised by how little moxey he writes Gambit with.

Gambit was written better than he has been in a while.... They got his voice right, he had a couple of good fights and all... I didn't think there was much to complain about.

What do I need to read to get up to speed with what's going on in 212? Bare in mind I haven't read any of the Messiah Complex stuff. In fact I haven't read any comics for a while now except Watchmen :)

True. It just didn't have anything that really jumped out at me.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't as sweet as any of his solo runs. :( It was just better than the ersatz Gambit sorta lookalike but not really Gambit guy we've been getting lately.

Eh. The book is Chuck-centric, and designed less for action and more for... well, nothingness.

But Gambit was around and didn't get angsty with anyone. So I'll take it for now.

If only someone would work him into a book somewhere on a more permanent basis.

Liked the last issue. Thought it was good that the grunts got the drop on him a couple of times. Shows he's not infallible.

I hate it when people write the hero as invincible, like people do 90% of the time writing Wolverine. It makes him more interesting. Sure I want the cool, suave Gambit, but I want to feel like there's real danger too.

I like it when Gambit messes up because he's great at coming up with strategies to get out of a tight spot.

Blasphemy! A hero that doesn't have a contingency plan for every situation? A hero that doesn't always just claimed he "smelled" them coming? This is not acceptable! :woot:

Oh Wolverine. What they have done to you...

If you think that's bad. Then you don't want to read X-force. Logan's taking to self pity like it's an olympic sport and he's got a side-kick. A female emo self-harming version of himself we all know as X-23.

Just goes to show that it isn't always our very own swamp rat that gets screwed by the writers.

That is so true. How about Wild Child getting the shaved bat treatment in the Weapon X ongoing? He looked horrible... Yeah, Gambit could have it worse by far. :(

Let's wait until Gambit is appearing monthly before we start talking about how good he has it. We've got maybe two more issues until limbo.

Note 1: See what Canemacar said.

Note 2: I don't know what's worse... that the idiots on X-Force have created said scenario, or that there are so many fans buying it up.

Bah.

Just a matter of some patience. And I don't mean the kind any Jean Grey/Pheonix fans need. :P With his current treatment it looks as though there is some form of game plan for Gambit.

I don't see any plan for Gambit. He's being used right now because he has links to Legacy's villain and carey's pet character. After that, he goes back into limbo while carey makes Rogue the new main character of legacy.

At least until the wolverine movie comes out and they throw out a crappy mini to cash in on it.

I'm not saying that there's a master plan for Gambit and that he's getting some definite stories written for him. Just that there's a feel that Marvel are using Gambit here and there because they want to use him.

Despite his connections to Sinister they could have easily taken him out of the last X-event (and this one) or erased his role entirely. The story would still have went on without him and not been adversely affected. That's why I think they're consciously thinking about how to use him.

Plus there will probably be a big surge in Gambit appearances to coincide with the Wolverine movie.

You've dug your own hole here.

You just said it yourself-Gambit's appearance in Messiah Complex was more or less just filler to appease fans. His role was not important in the slightest.

And, as Canemacar said, the appearances when the film come out will be short-lived, and thrown together quickly just in an effort to get fast cash.

Gambit's days of being a regular character with real apperances that matter may be gone for a long, long time.

If you look in the hardcover TPB of Messiah complex, the editor's notes show that they had planned for Gambit to make a comeback, that he was going to "go back to being interesting" and had him planned to be the one who took out mystique and saved the baby at the end.

Unfortunately, that was all scrapped and he was relegated to wallpaper while Mystique kills sinister via headlock.

The question then becomes...

Who made the executive decision?

That storyline would have made sense, because all the writers were raving about how important and integral Gambit was to what happened in MC... and then he did nothing.

I hate Marvel.
