That's because you're my greatest fan, Canny. And oh, how I've missed you. Have you missed me?
I'd hope that it would have him running around and being a thief, doing jobs, rather than just sitting around. There is so much untapped potential in him that has never been used.
Yes.
So many missed opportunities -- the visions he was having in the cards when he was blinded, the fact that he could have volunteered to be a mole in Apocolypse's camp and then Sinister's after that. Nothing sucks worse than wasted potential.
And yes.
I hadn't put much thought to it, insofar as specific stories, character arcs, plots, themes, and what not. But as far as the general goes, squeek's got the right ideas. There's no sense in trying to reinvent the wheel here with the character, and trying to do that generally results in a broken down character and an unsuccessful series.
I'm behind on my X-Men comics, but in the current X-world, it would wind up making fine sense for Gambit to be acting as (one of?) Cyclops's side-agents. Cyclops already has X-Force for black ops, and that's one dirty little secret, so why not a few more? How far back does it go? There's the opportunity to get back to Milligan's stupid, stupid, horrible Apocalypse arc. Salvage what can be salvaged. And considering Gambit was totally not a bad guy during Messiah Complex, there's that, too. If anyone's got the skillset and the balls to play a deep agent / mole in the regimes of those two, well, Gambit's definitely up there as a top contender.
There'd be the Legacy issues to deal with, but those can also be answered by Gambit working for Cyclops.
Eventually it'd all have to be reinvented during the course of an ongoing - I mean, without it all building up toward something, it'd become just a series of trite adventures of espionage or what not, which would eventually drop sales numbers. But it would work fine for a four, five, or six issue mini-series, explaining everything that's been going on with Gambit, and what it looks like for his future.
Or, heck, he could probably fit on X-Force itself. I'd love to see Choi draw him, and imagine the fun of him hitting on Domino.
In Cyclops's more militant world, though, if he has any dealings with Gambit, it makes the most sense for Gambit to be as an asset, whether on X-Force or working solo.
