Not sure how much I trust Carey with Gambit, he's been less than consistant in my book.
He's more of a Rogue fan than of Gambit.
Those were the good ole days. Would be nice to see Gambit written like that again.Yeah, I'm hoping he gets used a bit more often. As for Gambit in other media, I'm not so sure he may get a spin-off movie, which he should get considering he stole the show in Wolverine. With them doing a reboot with X-men: First Class it looks like Wolverine is the only X movie staying with the same continuity.
I leave for a few weeks, and the thread goes all dead on me!
Picked up Hellbound-I liked it. I feel like our cajun is gettin' some respect these days. He is also featured in a freebie booklet I got from my comic store as a "main player" in the upcoming Heroic Age. The Gischler interview included had him talking a lot about Gambit as well. He seems to really like the guy (he currently resides in Lousiana, which helps). Fingers crossed!
Gambit IS getting marketed pretty well right now for a character that isn't in the primary lineup of, well, anything. He's been showing up in preview art throughout the X-line, and he also go the nod for mutants in the whole "Who Will Be the Next Man Without Fear" thing.
For the first time in nearly a decade, it seems like the writers actually WANT to use Gambit. The problem is he's been pigeon holed by Carey's reinvention of the Death persona... and it could be another 6-12 months before Carey gets around to handling that, because he's so far up Rogue's behind.
I hadn't heard that. I knew that they were doing the whole 'who will be the next man without fear', but I hadn't heard much names. That would be cool, but I'd think it would be too much to hold out for that. Though who knows.
Well for all the previewing he got for the relaunched X-men title, he didn't even appear in the first issue at all.Gambit IS getting marketed pretty well right now for a character that isn't in the primary lineup of, well, anything. I hadn't realized it was so close until I went over my August checklist today when I picked up my books. I hope it's good.Hey Gambit fans, he had a hell of an appearance at the end of Marvel Universe vs. Punisher #1 out this week!
At the end of the issue........
....his head was on a bloody stump
.My best guess is that its because he's a solid balance of recognizable but not so popular that people would be upset over him just getting a cameo.
They mean he's still in the minds of the writers and artists... which is a good thing. There was a long, long stretch there where we didn't see Gambit anywhere. And when the character did pop up, it'd be in an alternate universe where he died.
I think the tide's turning, hence my newfound patience. Still annoyed Carey's got him locked up (and buried under countless Rogue stories), but cautiously optimistic. Very excited for the Gambit/Storm team-up at the end of the month.
) Storm and Gambit are my fave 2 X Men!That won't be a problem. That's is what I was getting at-suddenly he seems to be popping everyone promotionally: first in I am an X Man, now in the Man without Fear, and two titles will be featuring him in the future (X Men and X Men: Legacy) plus X Men Forever-that is the most exposure he has gotten in the last ten years.
My theory is this is a side effect of the Disneyfication of Marvel. Disney execs see how popular he is and the earning potential he has (like Wolverine and Deadpool). Marvel may not use him much (due to Quesada's rumoured dislike of the character) but they are going to definitely put him out there and mostly likely Disney will gently nudge Marvel into using him more over the next couple of years. Though I hope he doesn't go all "Deadpool" at some point and appear in friggin everying!
Ahhh, I'm back home now so I won't be able to get the one-shot. I hope Squeeks will post some pages for me to see (hint, hint) Storm and Gambit are my fave 2 X Men!
Well Gambit pulled a Deadpool before Deadpool... When Gumbo first got hot in the early 90s he was everywhere - there was a solid stretch where the only mutant that was more popular than Gambit was Wolverine. That popularity has faded, obviously.Though I hope he doesn't go all "Deadpool" at some point and appear in friggin everying!

For a character that hardly gets any attention paid to him anymore, I'd argue that Gambit is still very popular.Well Gambit pulled a Deadpool before Deadpool... the storm/Gambit one shot comes out 25th August last time i checked
People say Gambit isn't popular these days, but it's just because he isn't AS popular as he was in the 90s(which was huge). Early 2000s he was just randomly stopped being used.
Also since the new every character can be in every book thing(no teams), the writers only are writing their fav characters Rogue/Cyclops/Emma etc, you can see that more in Uncanny with lifelong X-Men like Madison Jeffereies, Namor and Magneto.
Gambit is also used over many characters for promos and was also put in that MUA2 game over many X characters like Cyclops/collosus and Nightcrawler, and yet rarley appears in comics which i put down to the writers
rant over
