WB would be fools to give up on non Batman/Superman characters if this movie fails.

It was clear to me, doesn't mean it was clear to everyone else. Not everyone who comes to this board is an english major, is an adult, or in a country where english is their first language.

But I'm not seeing that as a legitimate complaint in this case, just the typical internet crap of people wanting others to qualify their negative opinions. I wonder if Roger Ebert gets mail from people who want him to constantly qualify that he's writing his opinion when he reviews a movie.

And I reiterate: when was the last time you saw someone asking for qualifier's for a positive opinion? Doesn't happen.

Read around and the verdicts are coming in. CHUD.com's forum has some comments about the film and it's not good.

Devin didn't like it. No review but his tweets suggested that he saw it and wasn't won over with it...

Oh man, this could get interesting for WB in the next 12 hours.

And if true, I'd be pissed because, personally, Marvel's been getting away with mediocrity for far too long and have been given a pass. WB attempts a bold vision and it's sounds like it's gonna get killed by the critics.

If it fails, they'll probably reboot and try again sometime down the line.

Flash would probably get screwed in the process. I don't think WW has much of a shot at a movie regardless of how good or bad GL does.

Would they even bother rebooting, and rebooting to what exactly? Without drastically changing the concept completely I just don't see them bothering unless they take the focus away from the space stuff. That would probably upset a lot of fans in the process.

Easy for you to say. You don't have millions riding on whether the public is going to go for something. I doubt we're going to see a failure in this case, but it doesn't take many big budget non-starters to kill a company.

Maybe I'm not making it clear and I'm sorry for that but I am specifically referring to him saying Reynolds was not a likeable person. I don't see how it's any different. Some schmoe on the internet isn't at all the same thing as a magazine that has to worry about libel.

I completely agree. Such thinking has led to plenty of quality films being labeled unfairly as horrible.

Everything is either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever when it comes to comic book movies.

I'm optimistic with this film, and expecting lukewarm reviews. Frankly, unless overwhelmingly negative reviews just pour in, I couldn't care less. I think it looks awesome.

I don't think thats the case at all, atleast it isn't for me.

Green Hornet had bad reviews and I thought that it was going to be terrible and when I watched it I really enjoyed it. I formed my own opinion about that film.

I thought that X-Men 2's reviews were overpraising a pretty good but not amazing film and the same goes for Spider-Man 3 which I thought was horrible. I formed my own opinion and the critics didn't matter one way or the other.

Iron Man 2 and HellBoy 2 got decent reviews and I disagreed as I felt that the critics were going way to easy on them. Hellboy 2 was just bad and Iron Man 2 wasn't good either. I disagreed with the critics again.

I hated Kick Ass with all of my soul and thought that Scott Pilgrim was mediocre at best and again and the critics enjoyed them.

I thought that Batman Begins was overrated and thats another disagreement with the critics.

I don't follow some silly script, either I like a movie or I don't. If I walk into GL and love it, no critical review is going to change my mind one way or the other.

Only a weak minded person tries to hate or love a movie based on what the critics say.

Probably what "Incredible Hulk" was to "Hulk," different cast.. different director.. different vision.

Maybe swap out the overuse of cartoony CGI for more practical effects and cosmetics.


First, let's see what the major complaints about this film are. I'm guessing characterization could be a bigger issue than any of the CGI.

I hope I don't agree with Devin like I didn't with Super 8. I hope this isn't like me agreeing with his Fast Five and X-Men review.

Devin has a hate-on for JJ. Abrams so it's easy for me to ignore his reviews of his films and films by directors who I hate who he endlessly praises but he was actually kinda looking forward to this one.

Anyway, maybe this will be another one of my many disagreements with him.

It's hard to compare Marvel and DC, because Marvel has produced so many more films. DC's best has been elite, but Marvel has produced a greater number of good films because they've produced a far greater number of films.

It's hard to compare the two, because over the last fifteen years or so, we've really only seen four DC films and what, 20+ Marvel films?

Those films were well received by the public and had good word of mouth, that's all that matters.

That's what GL desperately needs.

And personally I thought BB and X2 especially were brilliant films, easily within the top ten comicbook films ever made thus far.

And all of them, imo, have been ****/so-so movies except Spider-man 1 and 2, Iron Man 1 and 2 and X-men 1 and 2. Those are the only ones i really liked. None comes close to a great piece of cinema like Dark Knight or even STM, imo.

I think Cap is going to be really good, though.

I liked Batman Begins and X2, I only trashed Kick Ass which is not a beloved movie by the public as nobody saw the f**king thing. People actually saw and liked Batman Begins and X2.

I don't want to start a flame war with that post I was stating why I'm nobody's puppet.

As for GL, things aren't looking so awesome...

I personally think Cap is going to be the best comic book movie this summer. I'm rooting for GL though. It would be funny if First Class is the best as was the one people thought it was going to be terrible at first.

I can't see Cap being better than First Class as I think very highly of the film. I would be happy if it were but I just don't believe it will be.

I don't think first class was the greatest. But then it tried something outside of the regular formula, and it worked, so yeah it will be the best superhero of the summer.

Other than that this summer blows.

IMO, XMFC is pretty overrated. Thor was better, as was X2.

I liked FC a little better than I liked Thor, but I had some problems with FC
Thor was good, especially considering that I didnt care about the character before the movie
ANd I actually enjoyed The Green Hornet. It was alot of fun. Wish it would get a sequel
