First Class was great but killing the black guy almost ruined the movie, imo. Also, the main characters were not that good, except for Magneto and Xavier.

I can't see Cap being better than First Class as I think very highly of the film. I would be happy if it were but I just don't believe it will be.

Agreed. But Cap seems pretty ambitious with the world war 2 setting, so I'm looking very much forward to it. But, I'm a bigger X-Men fan, and I love First Class.

Oh man if GL tanks WB is going to give up on everything but Batman lol

Why did they get Martin Campbell anyway? he only has certain good movies and Green Lantern is not a "normal" character like Bond or Zorro. He is a larger than life special FX mogul so what gave WB any notion that Campbell was the guy for this task??? Since Snyder is tied up with Superman i feel the Wachowskis, Burton, JJ Abrams, Spielberg, etc have proven to be masters at the fantastical so i don't see why u wouldn't go with a sure bet. Any way we haven't seen the movie so hopefully its not a disaster. I never was a fan of that horrible looking CGI on Reynolds. It didnt look good on first impressions and it still doesnt look good now. it never seems to look like its a part of him which doesnt sell it for me. would have been cool if it was more like how mystiques FX mesh with prosthetics. This was a bad direction to go as far as all the scenes Ive seen so far with him in it. I hope the actually story and acting do better.

ANother issue ive had with the marketing is how its being marketed as a kids movie or for young people where as Nolan's team marketed TDK as a film for people who grew up on Batman and never felt fully satisfied ever since Burton left. This GL movie seems like its too much of a quick pop corn movie. The CG direction isnt bad, its just the team behind it hadnt perfected that look of realism as it just screams CG...

I was tired of Wolverine and The X-Men and was happy to see some other characters get some play and I was also happy to get some well done big action scenes that didn't lack energy. I've talked about Thor enough, my opinion of it is well known.

Anyway we aren't going to convince eachother but I guess it's interesting to get our opinions out.

LOL are you serious? How did killing Darwin almost ruin the movie? It's not like he was some beloved comic character people were expecting big things from, or a pivotal character capable of so much more. He was a plot device.

And Magneto WAS the movie, frankly.

Agree with that because i didnt care for Thor at all and was very entertained by the movie.

Thor was weak as ****. not horrible, just not anything for me to ever watch again really. XFC was better than thor by a long shot as far as plot, characters, and directing, but your right about X2 which aint sayin much as i HATE singerverse to begin with. He seems to like to make the characters his own and not just relay the already defined stories to the big screen.

I love when people suggest Spielberg or Cameron for superhero franchises.

It will never, ever happen people.

They're above it, whether you want to admit it or not.

I just think that they don't need to so they aren't going to. They already have made their name on popcorn films that weren't based on comicbooks, why do one now?

I don't think Cameron could make a good superhero flick:o

I concur with the quote as killing Darwin irritated me as a black guy who only got one black guy out of the whole movie...smh. that was a stupid decision and cliche for the black guy to die first crap.

Anyway that wasnt my beef. my beef is Singer's entire X universe being so not according to the comics and i dont want excuses of how hard it is to adapt that franchise as they could have rebooted and got it correct the first time by making **** correctly such as Sabretooth actually having a brain, wolverine having natural claws and not implants, rogue just being horribly interpreted etc...a lot of wrong all around. Anyway...i hope GL will be worth a damn cause batman has set such a hi standard that everything after it has been really mediocre besides Kick Ass, Watchmen, and Scott Pilgrim

I thought First Class had some great moments but once they got their team together I thought things became a little uneven. Thor, though, was a movie that at first I thought was average summer fare, but now I think is almost a complete failure, both as a film and as a summer blockbuster. It will take a huge screw up on the part of Green Lantern to be a worse film.

He's done better with the fantastical, Avatar, than Campbell has ever displayed. They should have given Campbell a small project to begin with and not such a pivotal character who can determine where DC/WB goes after.

Is this the anything but Green Lantern thread now?

agreed on all accounts

Haha at denial!
Quite early still, but it doesn't look good.

I'll start actually worrying if the next 10 reviews are all negative.
I just hate to hear some of this Marvel bashing, almost seems like some are so upset that the GL won't do good that they feel the need to be derisive toward Marvel films and justify Marvel success with being safe and DC failure with being bold and experimental.

It's more late than early because other summer movies had alot of reviews out by now.

I'm tired of the Marvel v. DC s**t. A good comicbook movie is a good comicbook movie.

Superman Returns didn't fail because it was ambitious, I think that it failed because alot of people didn't care for it. It pretty much split the audience and when Singer left the idea of a sequel died. Batman Begins wasn't a shoe in for a sequel, it got one because of the DVD sales and the great buzz it had. DVD sales are going down now though so they won't be saving films like they used too.

I still like the way GL looks but it doesn't look overly ambitious to me either.

Anyone see Rex Reed's review? He didn't like it, but he made it a point to mention Tim Robbins playing Blake Lively's Father... He mentioned he's always hated the character though.

RT is listed as having 2 bad reviews but I can only see the one from Village Voice, anyways so much for the stringent embargo, cat is out of the hat.

Dammit. What happened to all those happy, excited and amazed fans and critics who saw the 9 minute trailer?

This makes me sad. :(
