I See Spidey, have you seen the movie clips? I love them all. Reynolds is pretty funny in those and Lively does a good performance. So, i guess we have nothing to worry about.

Really? She seemed mediocre to me.

That review is not negative but it's not exactly positive either.

Like I said, critics are going to maybe like it or hate it and we are going to love it because it is very faithful to the comics. Isnt what we all want? I mean people are complaining about Tomar-Re and Kilowog as characters. They are perfect portrayed to me so theres nothing for me to be worried about.

Screw faithfulness, give me a quality film.

I didn't watch them all but Lively looked fine to me. I'm on the fence about about Reynolds though, he is a good actor but he is looking a little too over the top for my taste. Kinda like how RDJ was in Iron Man 2. Good actors can make bad acting choices when they are allowed to.

It's fairly postive but it sounds more negative than it's score.

I seem to recall Avatar and Transformers getting ****e reviews on their stories as well. They did alright. It's almost sad, with everything so "in your face" in popular culture, that advance reviews of a film have become this barometer of success or wasted effort. I'm going to see this film, and I don't expect it to be Oscar caliber performances. My biggest hope is that it will entertain me. And secondly that maybe it can be a crazy new concept for lots of young (and young at heart) people in the world. Maybe the actor really isn't the biggest part of this film, maybe it is the concept. Like Sam Worthington in Avatar. I know Hal Jordan is a far more legendary and renowned character than Worthington's was, but he's introduced to the grand concept of the corps as a way for introducing us (the GA) to it as well. I will be very interested to see the tone they go for.

That makes no sense. Those two dont have to be mutually exclusive.

You said having a faithful adaptation is all we want, I'm telling you that's not what I care about. I really don't give a rats are how faithful or unfaithful or how accurate a comic film is, the only thing I ask is that they capture the spirit of it, everything else is up for grabs as far as I'm concerned.

All this suspense is killing me, I'm taking a break.

Bad is purely subjective. I thought X-men First Class was a decent movie and not great. And I liked Thor just because i simply didnt care for the character at all and i was entertained.

So, the only critic i respect is myself.

Anyways, I want to see some reviews from those who know the comics and not some indulgent *******s.

I'm tired of the "not supposed to be award winning" comment.

My expectations for a film are never "greatest movie ever." I simply want films to succeed at what they are heading for. I want GL to be a good, entertaining epic space adventure, nothing more and nothing less. Hopefully GL is that.

Completely agree. And while it looks pretty faithful to the source material, Green Lantern has done nothing with its trailers or advertisements to convince me that it's a quality picture.

I'm going to wait until Monday for word-of-mouth to get out before deciding on whether to see it or not, though. All of the reviews posted above so far are from completely unknown critics to me, and the substance in them is kind of bare, too. Plus, I'd rather hear how general audiences react to the film in addition to the critics before coming to any sort of conclusion on the matter.

"it ain't Citizen Kane!" is another one.

Glad to see this discussion going on without people tearing into each other and whatnot. Hopefully it stays that way.

Pretty much what I'm looking for in a nutshell.

The 'it's not suppose to be oscar worthy' comment is the single biggest excuse there is in justifying a poor film. There's nothing wrong with having standards, fans should have standards and are within their right to expect 100% effort put into a character/franchise they love.

Your right, you don't need to put IMO in every sentence. You do have to say for example "to me reynolds is not a very likeable actor". The way you wrote it came out as if you were speaking for everyone.

No he doesn't. I hate this thought policing on the internet. I've actually been trying to remove those kinds of useless qualifiers. They're not necessary. It's implied that what anyone says is their opinion and stuffing your writing with "IMO's" and "to me's" and "I think's" is bloated writing.
