Sounds like they're still in the writing phase right now and that they're not using any of the stuff Goyer might've done up with Justin Rhodes, thankfully.

Question for you guys... if they go with an older Hal mentoring a younger John, would you have a problem with Hal dying at the end of the movie in a heroic way? I'm just curious. Obviously as a huge GL fan, I'd love to see multiple films featuring Hal and all the Lanterns. But if they go the route that some films go that feature the mentor/student dynamic, ending the film with a meaningful death might be pretty powerful, and it could open up the potential for John to mentor Kyle in a sequel.

And since there is the whole sci-fi element, Hal could potentially be brought back. Perhaps they could place his body in the central battery and he could return as Parallax at the end of a trilogy. That might be a cool way of making Hal a villain through actions that aren't his own; that way when he redeems himself at the end, there won't be any animosity towards him.

I don't know, I'm just tossing around ideas. Since there has been talk of Tom Cruise playing an older Hal, I was thinking about how it could go. He might not want to stick around for multiple films (then again, maybe he would, since he keeps trying to start franchises).

I'd loooove Tom Cruise as Hal Jordan. Make it so WB.

I'm not against it. I'd honestly rather it just be John solo film to begin with anyways

I wouldn't want Hal to die, but being trapped in the central power batter would be neat.

It would give Kyle a way to shine in a second movie. And then use the third as a way to bring Hal back in a Rebirth-type story.

That's if they do the whole "trilogy" thing, which is apparently the only way movie franchises know how to operate nowadays.

They would be stupid to not do Parallax if Tom is Hal.

Sinestro should definitely be the villain in the first though. Take the time to establish Hal as a hero before his eventual fall

I back Tom as Hal 100%

The GL franchise is unique in that there are so many of them, so many characters to be done justice, so I only need Hal at the start, honestly. The first two films. Maybe a JL film in between as well.

LOL, well maybe killing Hal in a heroic way would be a way to bring Hal fans and Hal haters together. :woot:

Yeah, Tom as Hal and Parallax could be pretty sweet. Cruise doesn't play villains often but when he does, he's great (Collateral, Interview with the Vampire). It would give him a chance to stretch his acting chops, going from a cocky hero (which is his bread and butter) and then becoming the villain, and ultimately becoming the hero again.

Good luck with that. DC already did it in Final Night, it made things even worse.

That's the only reason I see why they would entertain the idea to make Hal Jordan an older character. If they had no intention to kill him off in order to put a younger John Stewart in his place as the "main" Lantern of the DCEU, they wouldn't want to make him a middle-aged character in the first place. Would I have a problem with killing him off in a heroic way? In theory, yes. After what WB already did to Hal Jordan, he deserves better than to play the Hank Pym-type role of the old supporting character who's there for no other reason than to prop the new guy and get killed off. However in case it's executed really really well, I could probably change my mind about it.

Yeah I'd immediately be fine with Tom if Wahlberg was considered.

That’s pretty much where I am too :funny:
The only time Tom Cruise would be my first choice is if the other option was Mark Wahlberg

Should we believe everything the clickbait blogosphere throws at us? Cruise as GL makes even less sense to me than Umberto's previous report about Reynolds being eyed all over again.

It is not clickbait, he has been mentioned a lot lately. I've heard interviews with McQuarrie during Fallout and he has been asked about Tom potentially being in Green Lantern and he didn't said "that's nonsense" or "I don't know about that", but more like (and I'm paraphrasing) "if he likes the script, he will do it".

Cruise in a solo GL venture? Ehh...

Cruise as the older guy in a GL buddy cop pairing? I'll allow it.

My gut feeling says Cruise will get this role. He has an interest in this project clearly. I have a feeling Johns will tailor his script to suit Cruise

When you have a guy like Tom Cruise interested in a character like Green Lantern, you make it ****ing happen.

Keep John's away from the script. Maybe keep him away in general. I don't like to be one that makes an absolute judgement based on only a trailer but... Geez that TITANS trailer does not build confidence.

As for Tom... Give him the gray temples and say he's been busy mostly in space for a decade, rarely if ever getting involved with Earth based issues due to Guardian regs or what have you. He's a vet who is training his new partner that he picked out himself. Use that CG deaging for flashbacks to set up Sinestro and give us a glimpse of his origin.

This is where I'm at. I'm just not sure Cruise's ego would allow it.

They better keep "Danger Zone" in there if they do!

Also he won't use the Ring's power of flight, he'll just run everywhere.

I could go either way witha GL film that had Hal die at the end. As much as I love Hal it would be different for sure and lend the film some weight if he's been properly set up and the film makes you connect with him, and it adds weight to Stewart in that he has the mantle passed to him.

The other side is that I get Cruise looking at it differently and not just totally from a star ego angle but through the prism of his career. A GL franchise probably benefits greatly from his presence as a bona fide movie star in an era where those type of mega actors are dwindling. Plus he can't keep running around as Ethan Hunt that much longer as good in shape as he is. A super hero like GL, the heavy lifting in action scenes is done by the VFX team. It's an easier job than the MI films and one which he could do for a trilogy probably given how well he's maintained himself so far.

I think that if he could bring FALLOUT'S director with him to direct and work on the script this would be a slam dunk as far as WB is concerned. In fact Cruise getting attached would probably bring a plethora of director possibilities with him.
