I wonder if Justin Timberlake will be considered again for Hal

NO!!!!!

DON'T EVEN JOKE ABOUT THAT!!!!!

Seriously, this isn't an SNL sketch. I want a real actor to play Hal Jordan. Outside of The Social Network and maybe... I dunno, Bad Teacher(?) Timberlake is bland as hell as an actor and box office poison. Keep him the hell away from this forever.

lol way to show us all your kryptonite, Rows. :o

The trades have said that Gyllenhaal wants to play a superhero. He's come close a few times now (Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins, Dr. Strange) and I think this may finally be the one for him.

It doesn't matter how bad the last GL movie was, it's all about Zack Snyder's pitch and the way GL will be approached going forward. I don't think it will be hard to lock an A-list actor for this role. this new GL is going to be introduced alongside the Justice League, he has a much better chance of being successful than Reynolds' Green Lantern ever did.

He is a fine actor, which reminds me that I still haven't seen Southpaw. And yes, if they want to, I doubt they would have much trouble casting a well-known actor for Hal, considering the circumstances are vastly different compared to the previous movie. But Gyllenhaal still doesn't scream Hal to me. I guess it just depends on how the character is portrayed. To me Jake Gyllenhaal doesn't work for the stereotypical clean cut laid back version of Jordan, but if they go with some grittier, more weary looking Hal, Jake might nail it.

Would be cool to see John Stewart GL done in a feature length movie but not sure if the studios would do it.

I am pretty sure he will be featured in the Green Lantern Corps movie. There was a GLC concept art shown during the DC panel at Comic Con and people who were there said it had both Hal and John in it. Perhaps he might be in the Justice League movies too, who knows. They haven't announced only the GL casting yet.

I'd say there's a major chance Geoff Johns is writing this along with whoever they get to direct.

It'll be a similar setup to the new Batman movie. Geoff Johns and Batfleck are writing it with Batfleck directing

Who knows Gl better than Geoff? He's pretty much the reason why Hal is one of my favorite heroes in the dcu.

Hopefully he does have creative input in the Justice League/Green Lantern franchises going forward.

What were they thinking when Jack Black almost became GL?

In those days, the general line of thinking for superhero movies was, "If it ain't Superman, Batman, Spider-Man or X-Men, it needs to be a big joke." They were basically going to take Green Lantern and turn it into The Mask. It would have been awful.

Of course, many people would say that the GL movie we got was awful anyway. I don't completely agree with that; I think the movie was just mediocre. If it had been released before Chris Nolan's Batman films and before Marvel started cranking out their properties, I think it would have been received better. But by the time it came out, the game had changed. Not that there aren't big problems in it (having Hector Hammond as the villain is the one that probably sticks out the most) but I don't think it's AS bad as people often make it out to be.

Gyllenhaal would be my first choice for Hal. If they wanted to go for a younger version, maybe Richard Madden (Rob Stark) from Game of Thrones. Not sure if he could do the accent, but eventually introducing an older John Stewart would add a fun dynamic I think. Maybe Shemar Moore. As long as it's not Tyrese.

I'm counting out Jake G. ever doing this. It would be a wonderful surprise, but I'm not expecting it in the least. The last time he tried his hand at a franchise role was disastrous. The last time someone attempted to make a franchise out of GL was also disastrous. I don't think he's gonna look at this and see potential here.

Unless Christopher Nolan himself directs Green Lantern I don't see Jake Gyllenhaal signing up for a Green Lantern film. Basically I'm saying that it's never going to happen.

If he didn't sign on for the CBM being shepherded by a guy he's already worked with before to great results, he's not signing on for this.

We need to broaden our horizons. I'm sure there are any number of suitably attractive, reasonably talented white guys that can play Hal. If they even use him at all.

Remind me, please...?

Ah, yes. Thanks.

Anyway, I agree, there is not much chance of having Gyllenhaal as Jordan. Though, personally, I don't consider this to be much of a loss anyway.

Well I think he is wrong for the role so...I don't either. Jake is always better when he is playing intense weirdos, so unless they are reimagining the character as an intense weirdo then I don't want him for the role. Now Jake Gyllenhaal as a villain? Sign me up.

Agreed. I am not sure if I would agree so easily though, if I haven't seen "Nightcrawler" rather recently. But after watching this film, I completely understand where you're coming from.

When I first heard that DC comics was including another Green Lantern movie in their lineup I was extremely nervous, the first one has such a simple premise yet they botched it so badly how could a reboot work? What could they do differently this time?
Then I heard the rumour; the new movie would focus more on the four human lanterns as a group.
:chd:
This is EXACTLY what we need for Green Lantern! Kind of a space western/superhero/police procedural/superhero team movie.
If done right this could be my favourite DC superhero film of all time!

Sounds like he's got a lot in common with Hal :oldrazz:

Agreed. Like Pine, JG is another guy I just don't see taking on the role.

Hal Jordan is a box office poison? You still blame the movie tanking on him and not on the incompetent work of the people who handled his material? lol Also it's funny you say that considering the GL you're a fan of has never worked as a solo protagonist and always had to rely on an ensemble to sustain a lead role. Why don't you put John Stewart in live-action without the presence of the Justice League and give him the same moronic treatment the boneheads at WB gave Hal, and see if his movie is going to be more successful. The notion that Jordan is to blame for that movie's failure only comes from the most hardcore Stewart fanboys who like to vilify or demonize Jordan, due to their warped sense of entitlement because of a 15 year old cartoon. Rant over. :oldrazz:

Lol. Glad you got that off your chest, son. 'Twas a waste of time tho. I've said for quite some time that there were many factors that led to the movie's colossal failure. Hal's a fictional character so I can't blame him for it. It's not like he chose himself for the movie. I blame the people at WB/DC who made the moronic decision to use him and all the moronic decisions that followed. You should probably focus on comprehending what I actually say instead of imagining stuff to rant against.

Where does this "had to rely on an ensemble" stuff come from?
