The Official Green Lantern Rumors/Speculation Thread

It was vast enough. It seemed more like a mixture of confusion & disappointment. A number of people were instantly turned off. It was the start of a bad buzz for the debut movie of an obscure character that couldn't afford it. The movie needed all the help it could get. This different Hawkgirl won't generate even a small fraction of the controversy that "making GL white" did tho.

It really wasn't a vast controversy. It wasn't some major social media uproar, it had some people wondering about "racebending" but it wasn't that huge. Justice League was a great and popular show in its heyday, but it wasn't some pop culture phenomenon. You make it sound as if it was like South Park in terms of popularity, where people would freak out if they racebend the characters in live-action. After the trailer and additional information came out, these people understood that the characters were different, which is frankly something they should've known already, considering Kyle was featured in the DCAU and it was shown that there is not "one" human GL. Though I admit it was funny reading comments like "I thought Hal Jordan was black". Those made my day.

WB/DC aims to make a profit, but that doesn't mean that the decisions they make are good ones that will yield profits. They aimed to make profit & start a franchise w/Hal's film & we see how that turned out.

It turned out the way it did, because as all of us here already pointed out, they horribly mistreated the material. We can keep arguing about which character should've been chosen and what could have/should have happened, but the indisputable fact remains that they presented the Green Lantern property to the movie masses in an exceptionally poor way. There is no way that a movie of such vastly mediocre quality can be a success story, whether the protagonist is a Caucasian fighter pilot, an African-American architect/former marine that was featured in an animated series from a decade and a half ago, or a half-Latino starving artist whose girlfriend was stuck in a refrigerator. If the studio plans to put all of these guys in the 2020 movie and still don't have their act together, we're in for similar dreadful results.

I'm not gonna speculate on how Hal's book sells more than those charters. Not really concerned about comic sales to be honest, but ALL of those characters get treated better than John has. Even people on the Hal side of this admit that DC doesn't seem to care much about him. I do think they wanted to kill him off & I doubt they'd have brought him back anytime soon.

Comic book deaths are publicity stunts done for sales spikes. I seriously doubt that John was either going to be killed, or not brought back soon, given how these stunts usually work and what I've read about the situation, but you are free to believe what you will.

There was a JOBLO Aquaman scoop today, but it had a little Green Lantern info in it to

as well as the already announced GREEN LANTERN CORPS, which we're told is Hal Jordan and John Stewart in a "Lethal Weapon in space" team-up.

Is JoBlo a trusted source? If they do a better job than Eh Maybe, I might give their scoops the benefit of the doubt.

They're "hit or miss" but slightly more reliable than Eh Maybe.

its a buddy cop movie with Hal & John.. which is great.. !

Again with the "Lethal Weapon" in space thing. Lethal Weapon is great. But the mythology is way too deep to just go "buddy cop movie but with aliens." It's like making The Flash a "sports movie but with powers" or Batman a "detective movie with costumes."

Forget a buddy cop film, GLC needs to be in the same vein as GotG/Star Wars I feel.

If you're gonna try to summarize the film in one sentence, I don't see anything wrong with Lethal Weapon in space. Doesn't mean it follows that film beat-for-beat or that it can't go deeper/larger in scope.

It's not the "Lethal Weapon" part so much. But the "buddy cop" part that always accompanies it. They have a clear idea of what aspects of Lethal Weapon they're referring to. It's the comically differing ideologies leading to lots of bickering and catchphrases between Hal and John. I just don't believe that's what they would go for in this universe. I think with the mythological approach Zack has said they're taking, a Hal & Sinestro "Training Day in Space" type deal would be more likely. If movies like Training Day and Seven count as a deeper shade of buddy cop movie, I'd be all for that.

I can actually completely see them doing that. Hal and John's very different attitudes clashing (with some comedy involved yes), set against the backdrop of this big cosmic story. Yeah, I could totally see them going with that.

Eh, it's a movie that comes out in 5 years. There's no writers, no castings, no directors, nothing. At this point in time, how much can these "scoopers" possibly know about what approach the movie is going to take, considering we literally know nothing but the title and the date. Even if they get something right, thousand things can change from now until they go into production.

Green Lantern Corps Concept Art From Warner Bros. Shows Both Hal Jordan And John Stewart

It's likely no surprise that the forthcoming Green Lantern Corps film from Warner Bros. will feature both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, the two best-known characters to wear the ring of Green Lantern.

Still, Cinefilos says that they've just seen some concept art that features both characters -- possibly the same or similar art as was seen at Comic Con International: San Diego.

Exhibited at the Professional Days of Cinema of Sorrento, the piece of art was part of a video presentation looking forward on the DC Entertainment movies that are rolling out starting in March with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Green Lantern Corps is due in theaters in June 2020.

Probably the same concept art that was showcased at the Comic Con panel. Fine, now let's see how long before they tell us which one will show up in Justice League. Interesting how they would explain the other one's absence, because I doubt both will be in JL. "Hey, where were you when I had to team up with those weirdos to save the planet? "Well you know, the blue dwarfs sent me to handle the peacekeeping talks with the Zamarons because they don't know how to ask them out on a date".

There is no reason why GL can't be at least as good as any of the Star Wars prequels or the new Star Trek movies

It's obvious isn't it? If John and Hal are both being used in the solo, then Hal is the GL in Justice League, just like the comics

I agree except I'd replace the Star Wars prequels with the Star Wars movies that aren't the prequels. WB should really look at what made those films popular and um well steal.

I agree!! But there's no almost way they can b as good as those original Star Wars films

............. sure.

I'm constantly groaning at your posts but this place wouldn't be the same without you. Those movies are truly classics of the genre, virtually impossible to beat. There is no question about that. They should aim to be as good as those but being as good as the new Star Treks or the Star Wars prequels would be enough

Justice League comes out next year, they have to announce who Green Lantern is soon. I kinda think that drone pilot guy is actually Hal.

I think the terrible Ryan Reynolds movie was already as "good" as the prequels so I just can't agree with that. I'm not dismissing opinions that are different than mine, I'm just telling you why I don't agree with that part of your post.

I'm not trying to start anything I actually mostly agree with you. Green Lantern should be a full fledged weird ass space adventure.

I agreed with u too. They should aim to be as good as the original Star Wars films, but that's incredibly unlikely. Also GL could be considered as good as Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith though is awesome and GL was nowhere near as good as that one

Finally that stupid story is laid to rest. I never believed he was ever offered the role. Pine has been the fanboys' wet dream for this role forever and Jordan and Kirk are more or less two identical characters, how bloody convenient is it for DC to offer him to play Hal Jordan. lol Eh Maybe can take his "ace scoops" and shove them up his ass.
