Warner Bros Sets David Goyer, Justin Rhodes For Green Lantern Corps http://deadline.com/2017/01/green-lantern-corps-warner-bros-david-goyer-justin-rhodes-dc-1201884133?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter …

Warner Bros and DC are moving aggressively on a new screen version of Green Lantern. They’ve set David Goyer to write the script with Justin Rhodes for Green Lantern Corps, with Goyer producing and with DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg exec producing. The new version is described as Lethal Weapon in space, and it’s based on a comic book origin story. The focus will be on two characters: Hal Jordan, and John Stewart.

Goyer is terrific at story structure, but his dialogue tends to suck. But he has a co-writer to keep his bad dialogue in check, so that's a plus.

Also sure that whoever will direct will take another pass at it.

A writer who seems to be an unknown, or relatively small time. Looking at an IMDB page for Justin Rhodes, the films I see come up are Grassroots and Contract Killers.

How dare you..

Glad they didn't skip Hal, that would've been a huge mistake, he's at the center of the entire mythology.

John and Hal together was always the way to go

Nothing new. We've known for a long time about the buddy cop thing with Hal/John. I'm pretty indifferent towards Goyer, not a fan of him but I don't dislike him that much either. I was secretly hoping Johns would co-write the project but he is overseeing it so I've got no complaints about that. Well at least they finally acknowledged Green Lantern so I guess we got progress.

Is the Armie Hammer as Hal Jordan really a legit rumor or just fan speculation?

Is Rhodes good at comedy. Because they cite Lethal Weapon as an influence, but it's the exact opposite of Goyer's DC work.

Just because they cite Lethal Weapon as an influence doesn't mean that Green Lantern's tone is going to be comedic. That's a major leap on your part.

No, it isn't. One of the biggest and most remembered aspects of Lethal Weapon was that despite being extremely violent and pretty dark at time, there was a large amount of humor as well. It pretty much defined the template many action movies would use from then on.

And I would make that assumption also because pretty much all of WB and DC's recent PR for the upcoming movies has involved saying how they would be lighter and more optimistic. Literally yesterday you had the Rock praising WB and saying how the new movies would be fun and different from what came before.

I'm glad John is in this. I liked the character in the Justice League cartoon and him and Hal could make a good movie.

Just because a particular film is heavily influenced by another particular film doesn't automatically mean that the tone of the two films will be similar.

Green Lantern Corps could easily be influenced by Lethal Weapon without having that film's comedic tone.

The entire point of bringing up Lethal Weapon is to give us an idea that the film will focus on the dynamic of Hal and John the same way that Lethal Weapon was about Murtaugh and Riggs coping with their clashing personalities.

A lot of that dynamic, albeit not all, was stooped in comedy. There was also drama with Murtaugh trying to keep up with family life and Riggs battling with depression because of the death of his wife.

When they say Lethal Weapon in space that's what they mean.

Again, if the movie isn't gonna have comedy, then Lethal Weapon was a bad comparison to use. It's one of the series' trademarks.

And as I just said, it's entirely consistent with WB's repeated statements about the upcoming movies being lighter.

Exactly.

At least it doesn't sound like they are going too grim. Actually I'm quite excited for that take

I'm super happy that we are getting John Stewart on the big screen!! It's about damn time!

Goyer is a good ideas man, not a good screen writer
I hope the co-writer and director can save the script.

Goyer has been thinking about this movie for years, he's commented on it a number of times
