Although, granted, I may just have gotten the wrong impression of Atrocitus because I've only seen him in a few comics. Maybe he'll grow on me in Emerald Warriors, if it turns out he is the Red Lantern involved.

I rather liked the little moment he had with Saint Walker but other than that he's been fairly meh for me as well

I don't get the attraction to Atrocitus, personally. He's DC's version of the Hulk--anger is literally his only personality trait. Boring.

I like Atrocitus more than Saint Walker.

Because... he can slump down on his knees?

I get that he has a great tragedy in his past and that's great and all, but pretty much any character whose entire personality is built around anger is boring to me. The only times Atrocitus is remotely interesting--much like the Hulk--is when he's not so consumed by anger that he can actually form more than a couple of sentences at a time. But that's not how most people like him. Again, like the Hulk, they like him when he's pissed and breaking s*** like a childish moron.

Because all he wants to do is protect the universe from the same kind of horror that he and his kind faced. Killing the guardians is the first step. And, it's the right step. If anything, Johns has written the Guardians (most of them) as somewhat villainous throughout his entire run.

I get that he has a great tragedy in his past and that's great and all, but pretty much any character whose entire personality is built around anger is boring to me. The only times Atrocitus is remotely interesting--much like the Hulk--is when he's not so consumed by anger that he can actually form more than a couple of sentences at a time. But that's not how most people like him. Again, like the Hulk, they like him when he's pissed and breaking s*** like a childish moron.

That's the thing though, his entire personality isn't built around him being angry. His power structure comes from RAGE, but at times he was the most level headed / forward thinking out of the rainbow brigade. I have zero doubt in my mind that Tomasi will turn him into an absolutely fantastic character (should he be in the book) and you shouldn't either. Just watch, a year from now youll be sporting an Atrocious avatar and going on about how awesome his character devleopment has been. You gotta remember, he's been around what, like a year and a half and has primarily been off panel or secondary his entire existence except the three or four issues that deal with him, he's not someone that's been around for 20 years.

I'm sure Tomasi will do a good job with him, but I wouldn't hold my breath on my becoming a super-huge fan of him or anything.

Atrocitus rarely gets all "Aaaaaaarrrgh!". He's quite articulate. It's the rest of his corps that just vomits and growls.

I thought you'd have thrown the issue down (and possibly pissed on it) in disgust. Guy and Kyle spoke, uninterrupted, for almost a full page about how the Guardians have betrayed the Corps' principles.
