where'd you read that? :wow:

On the AOL main page yesterday, it gave a full report :o

Same for some show last night, said McGowan was having a relationship with Rodriguez, but she said herself that they were just "really good friends" :o

Since the critics are saying that "Planet Terror" is better than "Death Proof" (no big surprise there), I wish that the order that the two films are in was reversed so that the cooler zombie movie was the big finish.

Oh well, seeing it this weekend anyway.

If Death Proof was first it wouldn't put you in the right mood. Plus its more enjoyable
When characters from Planet Terror appear in Death Proof, it wouldn't have the same effect the other way.

The music they play between the movies and to introduce the characters would make a great ring tone.

Brilliant, ballsy film making. The best moment of Planet Terror was the MISSING REEL. Utterly brilliant. And the end of Death Proof had the theater on its feet and shouting "HELL YEAH!!!"

After watching 300 and then this, my balls grew two sizes larger.

I caught the nurse, who else cameoed?

What was the Halloween trailer like?

I saw a press screening they only showed Fracture and the Hobo with a Shotgun, which won the trailer competition.

What was the Halloween trailer like?

Meh. It was followed by muffled moans, and then someone shouted, "FAKE". After the triple shot of 300, Planet Terror and Death Proof, the rest of the year is sure to be a down hill ride for manly movies.

The Babysitter Twins, Earl McGraw was in both, Dr. Dakota Block, and Rose McGowan was in both, but not the same character

and you can catch in Planet Terror Fergie's radio says "To our own Jungle Julia" (after she's dead) in the very beginning, cause the storyline is Death Proof happens before Planet Terror

I was hoping it was a badass trailer. :csad:

My Review as one whole experience A+

Possibley the funnest movie going experiences I have ever been too, this is a movie that's one and only reason is to cater to the veiwers, and more movies need to be made like this, and they don't all half to be horror movies, but the fact that it was made it even better...I assume the fact that money isn't gunna be an issue cause they probably made it for a modest 30-40 million (my guess) and it will probably make 50 million on the names of the directors alone, they had the oppurtunity to do so...but still fun fun ride all the way through

Individual movie grades

Planet Terror=A+

This is my idea of a perfect movie, and comes about as close to perfection as movies get, it is fun, cool, and kicks ass, with loads of interesting characters all the way through

Death Proof=B-

Death Proof I think Plays out like a B+, has the potential to be a A+ but the fact that it doesn't fully achieve that knocks it back down imo...I thought everything was great in it, except the second brick of dialouge...I was cool with the first one, when the theater was getting restless, I was like "well none of you have obviously ever seen the movies QT is ripping on here" cause anyone who has ever watched a bad 70's-80's slasher knows that the first 45 minutes of the movie is generally dreadfull.....with one exception, most slasher films have the Candy kill right at the beginning on the movie, and then a series of uncomfortable feelings that the main characters have...this one they wait 20 minutes to give us the candy kill to open the movie...If it is me, what I would have done is killl Rose Mcgowan right away, and then bring Mike to the bar, and have him get shot down by the chicks, and then in his rage kills them, and then bring in Rosario Dawsons crew, it would have made the movie go a bit smoother, and faster

outside of that complaint I really have no other complaints

I would be interested to see if there is a Grindhouse 2, and how they would do it, I think it would be interesting, and possibley even better if they cut the movies down about 20 minutes each, so its like 3 hour long movies, and invite like Eli Roth, or Rob Zombie to make a feature, or completely go with Roth, Zombie, and Wright, and make a triple feature

Cool that the reviews are good :yay:

i have to share this from France :1rst i don't know if you are aware that the movies will be released as two movie in France:o :whatever:

2 Death proof in France will be called : Death Boulevard :o :woot:

i swear that if somebody just wan't to try to kill those movies at the French box office :whatever: :woot:

My friend is the manager of a movie theatre so I seen it last night at a special 11:30 screening with only 4 of my friends after the theatre was closed. I was hyped for this movie ever since I seen the trailer months back. I love both Rodriguiz and Tarantino, so i was excited especially for "Death Proof".

"Planet Terror"

Grade: A

Planet Terror was extremely entertaining whether you loved or hated it. It was sweet spotting little cameos here and there, and overall it was just a lot of fun. Rodriguez at his best IMO. Good casting, good acting, and humorus(just watch the "missing reel" part).

Spoof Trailers

Grade: A

The fake trailers shown throughout the movie were excellent as well. They were obviously made to break up the action and be funny and they did it well. Among the best were "Thanksgving" and "Don't", because of their overall absurdity.

"Death Proof"

Grade: C

Now, Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Tarantino fan. I love all of his movies. When i seen the trailer for Death Proof and read the synopsis, it sounded great. And though I absolutely loved Planet Terror, I couldn't wait for it to conclude just so Death Proof could begin. Death Proof starts off strong. It's quentisensatial Tarentino with the conversation scenes followed by brutal vioence. Throughout the whole movie, Kurt Russell is fantastic. He comes on as a suave and charming guy,but as soon as he claims his first victim, it's dark. When you see this movie just watch after he kills the first perosn and look at the stare he gives her as she dies. It's great. And with that I said, "This is my favorite movie of all time". Then it all goes downhill when we're intrduced to Rosario Dawson and her gang. I liked the scene in the diner when they're talking, but IMO they talk way way too much.Even for a Tarantino movie. At times I thought I was watching some twisted Lifetime Movie, and wondering if they should call it "Deaf Proof" or "Girls talking in a field". I would've cut it down a lot and made it live up to it's name. And the way they Changed Russell's charcater from a suave guy to a pathetic twit was beyond me. They set him up as a complete badass and then change him to a complete weak coward. And the ending felt like the end of a weak SNL skit. It wasn't a terrible movie. It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen. I just like the forst 40 minutes or so, and it goes downhill from there. It could've beaten Planet Terror to a pulp. The concept was fantastic. IMO Tarantino missed this one overall.

Overall: B
Grindhouse was entertaining, fun, campy, and the time flies by while watching it(though I did check my watch a few times during Death Proof) But if you're a fan of both of these fine directors, you'll get a kick outta this movie plain and simple and come to like it a lot more.

Rob is saying that his trailer was butchered by the MPAA and isn't even close to what he intended, so a much better and longer version can be expected on the dvd.

Umm, you mean the movie not the trailer? "Better and longer version of the trailer on DVD"...

Rodriguez said there's really about 30 minutes total from his Machete trailer, but it was cut down to about 5.

But here's a review by Mr. Socko, may contain spoilers.

Fake Trailers- 8/10

I'll start off with a warm up, the trailers. They were all completely over the top and very wild. The Machete trailer was completely badass, hardcore. While the others were 70's hilarious. The entire crowd was laughing from beginning to end of the trailers. They were very fun but I don't think I'd pay to see a full version of any of them(well maybe Machete)

Planet Terror- 8.5/10

An very fun film from beginning to end. Action packed throughout, a great cast, great editing, and I thought I wasn't going to like the bad film grain, but the film is so entertaining you won't even notice it. The blood effects were wild as hell, zombies everywhere, hot babes with machine gun legs, this movie had it all. This is definitely Rob Rod at his best, just think Once Upon A Time in Mexico with zombies and a simpler plot. On the downside, I personally didn't give a care about the missing reel at all. Maybe it was because there was no real missing reel, Rob Rod just wrote "missing reel" in his script, and he didn't come off as well as it did in QT's Death Proof. But Rose McGowan was perfect, if only her dance scene were longer. Also, the ending wasn't very good. The running time saved it, it was perfectly fitting.

Death Proof- 6/10

This movie started off great, and became a big mess. I've read many of the film critic reviews, and most say this same thing, and I have to agree. The movie started out great, Kurt Russel came off as a Pimp in the first half of the movie, he talked that hot girl into giving him a lap dace when she first turned him down because she was scared of him. The first half was coming off great, I was with a friend and we were both thinking "man this is gonna be even better than PT!" Boy, were we wrong. The movie took an entirely wrong swerve. After the first pack of hot girls were killed by Stunt Man Mike, we move to another pack, this time led by Rosario Dawson, who was the only hot one in my opinion. The dialogue became very boring and quite lame, it added absolutely nothing to the plot. And it dragged on for so long, a guy below me went to sleep and told his friend to wake him up when the car chase starts. They take this car to go test driving when they can really do this stupid stunt where Zoe Bell gets on top of the car while they're driving. Then all of a sudden, Stunt Man Mike comes out of nowhere to do them in. (One other thing I was disappointed in was that I thought Mike hunted them down with his car, not just tail gate them) Anyway, they get in a car chase, and QT even had the nerve to call this the greatest car chase every created, which is total BS. It was fun, but not great. (Side note, this was QT's first time as serving as his own Cinematographer, and hopefully his last) The girls end up shooting Mike and tries to get revenge on him. He starts crying like a baby and begging for revenge. I couldn't believe he started out as such a great character and then became so stupid. And the ending was just the generic "yay we got the bad guy THE END." And I'd like to add, you're going to go nuts when you see QT's missing reel. It was getting REALLY good then all of a sudden BAM. And unlike Rob, he wrote an entire script, then just took out an actual reel in the editing room.

Overall 7.5

For me, QT's Death Proof brought it down, well the second part of Death Proof, that is. I still really enjoyed myself. I would advise it to any fan of the genre, just don't go expecting another Pulp Fiction from QT, or even R. Dogs as far as that's concerned. I still can't get over how he stated his car chase scene was the best of all time. On a positive note, he had a small role in both films. So did Rose, but she wasn't as hot in DP.

Feel free to disagree on anything.

I totally completely agree with every single point made in you're review. I agree with you're review so much it's creepy.

Just got back from seeing the movie(s) this afternoon. Will have to say they were both entertaining movies to say the least. I did enjoy the fake coming attractions.
Enjoyed the 'thanksgiving' trailer the best, then the machetter after that.
I did like the idea of some of the Planet Terror actors appearing in Deathproof movie..
I enjoyed Planet Terror just a tad more than Deathproof. PT had a little more action going for it. Over the top action, but it kept ya going most of the movie. Though Freddie Rodriquez did had a better performance than he did in Harsh Times.
Deathproof wasn't too bad, seemed a little slow. The action was more realistic than PT'ers. The chase scene at the end was pretty good, just thought maybe it needed one more action sequence with the cars. I did enjoy the little reference of Kill Bill with the two actors from it. The 'Son number 1' line was pretty funny, had the crowd laughing at that one.
Over all I enjoyed both movies, and the 'fake trailers' that were attached.
I'm guessing when the 'dvd' comes out it will have all the 'Missing Reel' parts in it I hope....

I completely disagree with everyone's comments so far, and that's what's so great about this movie. It plays to both the low brow and high brow. Planet Terror had a few great moments, and it was exactly what it was supposed to be -- a bad movie. Problem with it was it only had one note. Zombies pop up and get mowed down. After the first 20, the rest are tedious.

The best parts were

The completely contrived sex scene, her wooden leg goes erect, film burns MISSING REEL and when the movie starts again, everything's ****ed up!!!
Sayid gets PWNED!!!

Death Proof was a complete shock, mainly because Tarantino cheated. He actually made a good movie while homaging bad movies. His missing reel was the greatest piece of cinematic blue balls never filmed. That took a massive set of testicles to pull that one off so well. Most on this site have problems with the pacing, but I found it relentless and deliberate. It reminded me of Psycho in the way that the movie seems so quaint, grounded and everyday and then BAM!!! Crazy mother ****in ****!! And the setup was so fantastic. Tarantino even winked at the audience with the CG comment, letting us know that what we were about to see was the real ****ing deal and not some 2 Fast 2 Furious CG bull ****. And that ending was so HELL YEAH!!! Peter Jackson should be taking notes on how to end a movie. It was a double-barred-shotgun-blast-to-the-nads good. And it wasn't until three hours later that I thought "what about the cheerleader?" Instead of feeling like a dropped plot point he effortlessly waved his hand with Jedi like grace and said "you don't need to know about the cheerleader."

Death Proof is a cinematic filet mignon whereas Planet Terror is a double fistfull of Skittles. And the cool thing is, we don't have to choose one over the other because they ingeniously jammed both into our gullets in one fantastic sitting.

*Regarding the fake trailers*
THE DUDE WAS ****ING THE TURKEY ROFL!!!!

Rob is saying that his trailer was butchered by the MPAA and isn't even close to what he intended, so a much better and longer version can be expected on the dvd.

Yeah it seemed like it. That was my most anticipated trailer going in, but it was a real let down watching it, but I don't think it was his fault and it really was "butchered by the MPAA" because when I first read about it, it was supposed to be centered around a naked woman being brutally tortured and chopped up by 2 naked Nazi women, but we barely that in the trailer except for like 2 seconds. They had better have the proper version on the DVD.

The movie was fun, I agree that the girl talk in Death Proof was a tad long.

Yeah, it was definitely funny. And the end of the second movie("The End") had everyone in my theater cheering.

It's nice to know Rodriguiz and Tarantino made these movies just to show how cheap and corny they were back in the day.

Oh, I thought it was absolutely hysterical! And brilliant, 'cause I remember old movies that used to end just like that! It couldn't have ended more perfectly!
