Guardians of the Galaxy The Official Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Rotten Tomatoes/Critic Reaction Thread

The average rating has actually gone up! This thing is pretty much staying where it is.
It started dropping quite a bit and now...

That typically happens, but the average rating is what I think Ice was talking about. It was at 7.0 awhile back and is now at 7.1. Very unlikely that will change at this point. Also, audiences seem to have really liked it and that's generally what gives me more of an idea of whether or not I will like it. Right now, it's at 89% with a 4.3 out of 5. Not bad and I'm going to the IMAX show today at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. They have that new IMAX projector and the new IMAX sound setup. Man, I wish I had one of those bad boys in my home.

I guess I'll just have to settle for a regular old 3D projector with a 120" screen. :csad::cwink:

Urgh I hope it ends 80+

Very, VERY good chance of that happening. I'm going to guess the critics are being a little harder on it than normal because it's hard to NOT compare it to the original and even if it's close to as good, it won't seem as new and unusual as the first one.

That and Disney either forgot to pay or under payed the critics. :o

Thanks for the update. That isn't a huge drop as so many more reviews came in. We are soon going to be down to stragglers. The remaining reviews would have to be markedly different and there are just not that many of them left to have a huge impact. And I am imressed that the average rating has managed to stay at 7.1. I was expecting it to fall below 7 earlier than this but there is a decent chance it stays at least 7 now.

I was talking about both but 82% vs 85% is pretty much staying where it is to me when you go from 140something reviews to 217. It was supposed to be a calmer to worries that it was going to fall below 70 or something like that.

I'm at the Loews Hotel in Hollywood having breakfast. Not to mention a bloody Mary. Breakfast is good and the show starts in about an hour. Hopefully I'll see the Thor trailer. I'll check back in later after the movie.

IMAX tickets in the center near the front just like I like them

Man, this movie's tomatometer is all over the place. I was hoping it could crawl to 90%, but now it's dropped to 81. Too bad, would have been the first MCU movie to finish in the mid-80s.

81% is all over the place?

I think a 75/80% is very well deserved for this movie. It isn't horrible but it wasnt as strong as the first one.

I really struggle with the critical reaction on this one. Going back for a second look tomorrow.

To me this film had almost equal measures of joy and pain, in terms of the characters. It had more character development than nearly all the other marvel films combined - bar Civil War and Winter Soldier.

What I liked about the character development was that it felt authentic those characters had issues, and sure they got some of them out in the open, but they then weren't magically transformed into well-adjusted people ( Compare with Thor, where he transforms from an aggressive *****e bag into noble hero in the space of a weekend).

It's probably just the high of having freshly seen it, but I really think this should have a score closer to vol. 1, not 10% lower.

I think a low 80s score is well deserved...

The movie is good, but there is even less story than in Vol.1 and sometimes to "cheesy" ("Taserface" f.e.).

I liked the movie - really - but i think in general it has no good concept and the story is a really bad one - sorry... after all the hype "Peter is searching for his father"...
Too much going on, or to less, to many jokes (and i liked most of them)..

A funny movie with great visuals and almost no story...
A mid or high 80s score would be to "good"...

I agree. Also to make a comparison with other MCU movies, I liked Dr Strange but thought GOTG2 was much better.

I've felt the last few Marvel films Antman, Dr Strange, and now GOTGV2 , haven't been as strong as they could be , and I'd put them all in the B- to B percentage .

The last few MCU films are CW, Strange and Vol 2 and they are definitely better than B for me. The lowest is Vol 2 which is still a B+

The movie is certified fresh, that's a good rating guys, regardless of where the percentage ultimately ends up.

My thoughts exactly. The first one took people by surprise with its humor and style (like use of classic rock), but that novelty is over. That said, my personal opinion is that the plot/story for Volume One was indeed little stronger, but the difference in the RT fresh rating should only be by a few percent, not ten. Too many critics just have "sticks up their butts" I guess. :cwink:
