The Official Hellboy 3 thread

That hardly seems relevant in the context. A big budget movie definitely must be able to make a profit in theaters, and especially since HB2 hardly became a home sale phenomenon that certainly isn't enough to bet on it. I would have bet my house on it not happening, despite how much I'd like it to happen, and I'm not a betting man.

At the time it was really relevant, home sales are what convinced universal to agree to do the 2nd movie in the first place. The sequel cost more than the first but it also made more, including in home sales. But those revenues are not really relevant these days. Of course it also didn't help that they released the 2nd movie the week before TDK came out which meant no matter what a big 2nd week drop was going to happen. TGA did have a really good opening weekend though.

Now it seems home sales aren't as big as they once were with people choosing to watch stuff online through either legitimate means or piracy. It seems to be the reason they won't do a 3rd movie as not much profit is made from home sales these days.

With 10 years between the 2nd and a potential third though I thought the franchise would have built up enough of a fanbase to make the 3rd movie a success.

I'm more than OK with this. Watchers on the Wall is one of Game of Thrones' best episodes. Sounds like they might be taking inspiration from Wake the Devil for this one.

Wouldn't use TV shows as evidence he is a good director. Alan Taylor also directed some really good Game of Thrones episodes. His last movie was Terminator Genisys.

...... you do know he has rather well received film work from before he worked on GOT, though, right?

Last two movies:

Doomsday (2008): 50% on RT. Made 22M world wide on a 20M budget.

Centurion (2010): 59% on RT. Made 6M on a 12M budget

There is a reason he has only directed TV since then.

I don't know if this will succeed. Just don't think hellboy fans are big enough.

That's fine, but you're drawing a parallel that doesn't completely work.

Good for David Harbour. He seems like a good choice to follow Perlman.

You forgot The Descent, his lone horror movie. And probably the reason he was picked to do this.

That would be like saying lets hire Richard Kelly because of Donnie Darko. Forgetting he made Southland Tales & The Box after. This is a what have you done for me lately business.

I didn't necessarily dream for another Hellboy film. I dreamed for another Hellboy film directed by Del Toro and starring Perlman.

Meh.

:down

Yeah, no thanks. No GDT and Ron Perlman, no sale.

They be digging up all those potential R rated properties now. Hopefully they do this one right. Or else this'll get cynical really fast.

Wouldve rather seen a Hellboy 3.

But I'm really happy that David Harbour is blowing up. He's been my favorite "Oh it's that guy" actor for a minute now. I actually wanted him for Rick Flag back in the day. Good for him. Still need to watch Stranger Things tho

I've not seen a Neil Marshall film (or episode of television) that he's done that I haven't enjoyed. You throw in David Harbour and that's just gravy.
