Okay guys. Seeing that I’m a huge fanatic of Iceman, and I created this thread, I’ll start with how I came into liking this character, and why I’m obsessed with him over any other Marvel universe character.

Thinking back to the very first issue of Uncanny X-Men, I remember seeing the only prominent character in the forefront that actually looked different from the other X-Men donning a standard uniform. And I thought to myself: What the hell can a guy throwing snowballs do? And as the years passed, I put it out of site and mind. Eventually, back in junior high, some friends reintroduced me to X-Men, only this time the second wave of X-Men had already been established. I remember buying the issue, which unbeknownst to me at the time, was the first appearance of Alpha Flight. After about a month of constant nagging from my best friend, I sold it to him, not knowing the value of it at the time. However, once again, I fell out of reading at some point. Fast forward to the early 1990’s, I pick up Uncanny #302 and see Iceman in a totally new light, and with far more advanced powers than I could imagine. Since then, I found myself buying dozens of back issues to learn about what I missed with his character, and I’ve been a true fan ever since.

One of the things I can relate to this character is that he has a lot of potential, and always tends to keep cool in a tough situation. And although he occasionally makes mistakes, and suffers because of them, in the end he always makes good. He’s a team player, is always looking to get a laugh out of his fellow teammates, and because of his abilities, is an extremely valuable asset to the very core of the X-Men.

In the last few years, he’s been highly underrated, written as a buffoon, humiliated, and berated to a “B” list character. But despite the mishaps of his X-Men career, he still remains a favorite of some…. Fans like you.

And for some of you that aren’t too familiar with Iceman’s abilities, here is a list of the thing he is capable of:

Well, to start off, he has been classed as an OMEGA mutant. Which basically means that he has the ability to do some serious damage on a global scale and wipe out life as we know it. He's known to be one of the most powerful mutants on the planet next to Dark Phoenix and a few others. Even further proof is a quote from the recent book of "The 198", where it goes on to say that he may quite possibly "THE" most dangerous mutant in existence. Or something to that extent. And for those that don't understand his capabilities (in the comic world), I will give you a run down of what he is actually capable of doing:

THE HERO IN HIM
1) Convert part of, or his entire body into ice (including internal organs)
2) Freeze all forms of moisture, including bodily fluids, or oils
3) Add mass to his form for defensive purposes
4) Detect thermal signals in any object, or being (like infra red vision)
5) Evaporate & teleport himself through any body of water faster than
the speed of sound
6) Transport himself and others using a molecular inversion process
(Liquefying himself and others and travel as a mist cloud)
7) Create animated clones of himself by rapidly freezing and unfreezing
ice
8) Cryogenically freeze a person to slow down any life threatening illness
9) Disperse his body into any cold environment and live as an essence
(live without a body indefinitely)
10) Can bring moisture to the driest environment on the planet.

THE EVIL IN HIM
1) Can freeze every molecule of water in your body and shatter you
2) Can extract every molecule of water from your body
3) Can freeze the blood of telepaths to prevent mental attacks
4) Can reform himself after being shattered into many pieces
(even survive long periods of time as just a head of ice)
5) Can create extra limbs or restructure his body out of ice
6) Can freeze areas the size of Tokyo with ease
7) Can create all forms of wet or freezing storms
8) Can create ice tidal waves or avalanches
9) Can absorb large bodies of water to become an immense giant
10) Can create any blunt object or weapon out of ice
11) Can lower the temperature in any environment within seconds

I'm sure there are over a dozen more abilities that I forgot, and some of you may dispute some of these abilities, but those are some of his powers that come to mind. Iceman has undergone many transformations, but one thing that has kept him from achieving even greater feats, is his light-heartedness, and lack of desire to push himself further. Many allies and villains have hinted at the unlimited possibilities he's capable of, but at this time in his life, he is comfortable with the way he is.

So tell me, what is it about Iceman that you like?

You finally made a thread 4 iceman!! What changed your mind?

Damn he's powerful! I din't realize that quote from the "198 files"! And from the stuff you mentioned, i like mostly everthing about him..well power wize. But his persosnality isn't that bad i guess.

Might as well. Every other character here, damn near has one. But it's all good.

^LOL. But seriously, I didn't know how powerful he was. And are you sure the "198 files" saids that he's "THE" most dangerous mutant? I ask this becuase after you said that you said "OR SOMETHING TO THAT EXTENT". I just wasn't sure. Damn. I envy that about Iceman.

I scanned through that book again just a couple of days ago on his entry, and it said something like "He could conceiveably be one of the greatest threats in existence, but the notion that Robert Drake realizes his full potential isn't going to happen anytime in the near future". Or something to that extent, but the wording isn't that far off. They probably list that because of his great control over all forms of water. Otherwise I wouldn't see any reason to mention it. His entry also mentions him being an omega class.

Wow, you must be at least 40-50.

LOL.... Naw, not that old..... 30-ish. Let's just put it this way, I WAS NOT around when the very first issue came out. I wound up buying a limited edition signed copy (by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby) to see what he was capable of doing back then... which was a lot, compared to the other students.

Both of ya'll are wring because....I'M IMMORTAL..MUHAAAAA!

Damn! All of that about him makes me wish that they shouldv'e listed Storm as one while they had the chance. I said "While they had a chance" because it doesn't seem like they'll be listing anymore soon...:(

Ah okay, I guess it can work out. That would mean you'd be in junior high around 1980 or so (after all, the second team was already established, and they debuted in 1975, as well as you buying X-Men #120). I just figured since you seemed to imply that you were around in '63 (at the time of X-Men #1), that you'd be at least late 40s.

I'm looking into this way too much.

Not that old yet (knocks on wood). But over the years I've tuned in and out of Iceman's life. From time to time I'd see him in certain story arcs (non-X-Men related), but if it was a typical book when he has very little or no dialogue, I wouldn't buy it. Every now and then he'd pop up in a Spiderman book, or New X-Men book, but that was about it. Otherwise, most of my knowledge on him has been through back issuing.

I didint know he had thermal vision. How exactly does he have this?

There is someone else that has a similar vision. I think it's Gambit, but I could be wrong. Iceman can see the thermal signatures (hot & cold) of any object or being. It was listed in those crappy versions of the Marvel Universe books that came out about a year and a half ago, with those power level bars. Even I was shocked that he had this ability, but apparently he does.

IIRC, he did it in X-Men: Onslaught 1. It was pretty cool, he altered his vision so he could see Onslaught thermal energy. What made it reallllllly cool was that Onslaught was mentally cloaking himself.

Thats interesting. I didint know he could do that

(what the **** does IIRC mean?)

If I recall correctly.

Sunfire has thermal vision.

I think all the people that have it is Iceman, Sunfire, Storm, Pyro, and basically anyother mutant with control over a sort of temperature.

If that's the case, wouldn't Magma, Sunfire, Thunderbird, Sunspot, Firestar, Match, Cannonball, Fever Pitch, and Windrider have the same ability?

What do you mean Cannonball and Sunspot? I did put sunfire. And i forgot about Magma and Firestar. The other ones I don't know. Now windrider i'm not so sure about.

Sunspot has thermal blast and become a thermal being. I guess since Sam's enery is "thermochemical" and concussive

I thought he just gathered energy to make him stronger. But i've never been a big fan of his character so i don't know much. Well except from the stuff on X-men evolution.

I'm a huge Iceman fan... I hate it that the writers have abused his character and his power too for so long :/.

One day everybody will know Iceman > Storm. >_>.
