Comics The OFFICIAL: ICEMAN Discussion Thread

^That was a cross over from about 6 years ago....or something like that.

I don't have OZT. Is that an arc or a crossover of some sort?
OZT was the last of the yearly crossovers that went across all the team books until Messiah Complex kicks off this fall. It took place in the pages of X-men, X-Force, Wolverine, Cable, Generation X, and X-man.

Anyways, half the X-men were in space and the other half were captured by Bastion and his prime sentinels. Iceman saved Dr. Cecilia Reyes and was joined up with Marrow and Sabra and led this temp team against the sentinels and finally Bastion. That was the BEST Iceman story ever. Those 4 issues that took place in X-men 67-69 were fabulous for him. He was strong, confident and a leader. Lobdell really got the character and this was a new direction for him. Unfortunetly Lobdell left afterwards and for the next 10 years, no other writer has picked up on what Lobdell left behind. Bobby regressed and reverted back to the take orders and not exploring his powers that he was for the majority of his run. Its only since Carey took over that I saw potential for Iceman to be as great as he was during that time. Its been slow but I think Carey might be building Bobby back up

Dang....Im gettn old. :yay:

I actually had my first letter published in X-Men during that run...good times..good times.
that was when I first started collecting the books. I cant believe its been 10 years already

okay but that doesnt explain than why he was following direction from Nightcrawler and Angel not too long ago when he isnt any much more aware of his powers now than he was then. Bobby is a follower and even if he did get closer to his potential, I can still see him being the same way bc he likes for others to lead and for himself to follow direction. The only instance where I can see him taking the lead is around those he doesnt know and/or characters less experienced than him. That was the case in OZT. Even then I cant see him being much of a solo hero like Logan

Just in this past issue (#200), Scott told Bobby to lead the remaining members of Rogue's team into battle against the Marauders. So if there's ever a recent example that he's capable of leading, it would be in this recent issue... Even though he was incapacitated with his temporary power outage, he still managed to make an effort to be a part of the team.

I guess we'll see how it turns out later this month in the next issue.

Good point, looks like Bobby was Cyke's inside man on this team, at least after Rogue went through all of that junk. Bobby and Sam are the two that hold off the Marauders...sow well see how that works out.....

Edit

I tried to post a scan from UXM 319 when Bobby's creates this HUGE ice castle (no not the one already in here) but the link is really long so it wouldn't do it.

Is that the issue where he takes Rogue home to his parents? He built more like a mini ice city rather than castle. I loved that issue and it made me a Bobby and Rogue fan for the first time. I really miss their friendship and its a shame that no writer has picked it up after Lobdell left

^Yeah thats the issue. I read it at UXM.net and they described it as a "castle", thats why I said it that way.
Okay heres the picture, in thumbnails..just click it:

Heres another from the same issue. I almost forgot he can freeze thiungs with his MIND. I guess I'm use to him doing it through his hands:

Well Bobby did lead what was left of the team in Operation Zero Tollerance against Baston. That was one of the few times I seen him in a serious leadership role. Everyones different though, maybe leading is just not his thing.

I agree. He seems to be carefree and chooses to be. The leaders in X-Men have more serious personalities (e.g. Scott and Ororo) and now Rogue (but this is such a different issue).

I love Mike for what he's done so far with Bobby, but Scott Lobdell REALLY needs to get back to the adjectiveless book.... Or at least, whatever book Iceman is in.

Lobdell needs to come back to an X-book. Can you imagine a combo of him and Carey? Like Brubaker, but his run so far asnt lived up to its hype

In an ideal situation, I would love to see Iceman, Darwin, and Sunspot all on the same team. But I know that won't happen. Too bad Brubaker isn't doing a damn thing with Darwin right now.... AND, he's the one who created the damn character in the first place... But I digress.

I'll be glad to get some answers about what happened to Bobby's powers, and why they went out during battle in the last issue. We all know Mystique was mainly responsible for it - I'm just curious to know "how & why". I know Iceman is "the" most powerful character on the team, so I guess it would make sense for Mystique to take him out first, before he does anything to the Marauders. Smart move on her part, but looking back to that hospital room when Rogue first made it to Cable's island, Bobby flat out told Mystique that he didn't trust her...And here we are, a few issues later, and Bobby is sleeping with her. :cmad: ... Well, at least he got him some.

Brandon Petersen is probably my second favorite artist that has drawn Iceman...

Too bad Bobby will be in limbo most of the year.

Can't see the picvs. And good to have you back!

Thanks... I phase in every now and then... But with Bobby gone, I just surf around to get X-Men updates now and then. So until he's back, I'll remain in hibernation and pick up non X-Men books.

Don't worry though, I'll be the same ass-hole that causes controversy here when Iceman returns. :word:

Yeah - I'm pretty sick of Iceman being left in limbo for a year, then brought back, screwed with by every writer, then left out of the action (oh no, pardon me. he sends a couple iceblasts at people once an issue as has an offhand comment or two with Scott) in the big stories, then leaves for no reason for another year.

Same with Beast. Except he's never in Limbo. He just stays at the mansion all the time and does all the science and medicine. Whooo.... what a mainstay of things - mansion boy...
