Batman Returns is probably one of the worst written films EVER....the dialogue hurts my brain

^^ it has a certain charms to it though....and the whole catwoman thing...it's now part of pop culture. when someone think catwoman...it's the batman returns version that they'll think of

Michelle was good as Catwoman IMO!
And she looked pretty hot as her too.

^^ those Burton batman movies were good movies...good Burton movies. but they weren't good batman movies.

That said, if i have to choose whic i preffer, the Nolan version...or the Burton ones...i have to say i'll choose the Burton ones.

If i may explain, tha batman character to me, fits better in the burton version. In that Gothic setting.Though burton gone way overboard with that setting in batman returns.

The batman character...to me, seems kinda out of place in Nolan's 'reality'setting. To me, it's like making a dracula movie but set in Florida.

As for Schumacher(sp), i read somewhere that he was forced by the studio to amped up the campy elements of the movie.and if i'm not mistaken, there was an interview with him few years back where he stated, that if he were to make another batman movie, he would go the opposite way. but of course, the fanboys wouldn't give him a a second chance.

The thing is, i'm curious how schumacher would have done a Batman movie a second time around. he stated that he would have liked to make a 'year one'adaptation.and if you've seen his other movies such as 8 mm,phone booth etc...you'll see that the man is more than capable of making a dark and gritty movies. Moreover, i think he's more capable than Nolan in making exciting action scenes...which is one of the major problem with batman begins...lameass action scenes.

Just my two cents.

Don't forget The Lost Boys,it was a nice teenage vampire movie IMO!
I feel sorry for Joel now knowing he didn't want Batman Forever and Batman and Robin to be bad movies. If he made another Batman movie that was the opposite of those, then I think I would give him a chance.

:yay:

My only beef with Batman Returns is the whole penguin with missiles attached to them. I also wonder how the hell Penguin got those blue prints to tamper with the Batmobile,I doubt his gang is smart enough to know what they should be doing with it.

agreed 100%

and i may get flamed fo this but, i think he would have done a better job than Nolan.

I just checked it out and it was good but not great. I'll be expecting more from this film and Transformers was way better than this film. I can't wait for for TDK.

I watched Iron Man on Thursday night and………………IT blew me away! It’s as simple as that. The cast was perfect and Robert Downey Jr. shines as the eccentric playboy turned superhero Tony Stark; Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow were also great. It far exceeds my expectation. 10/10.

You mean stuff like...."Mistletoe is deadly if you eat it, but a kiss can be even deadlier when you mean it." That line hit about 100 on the groan meter.

Transformers was the biggest kiddie ADD laced movie I've ever seen. You're entitled to your opinion, but you are in the minority on that one.

Schumaker is a good director. He was nominated for best director, I believe for Phantom of the Opera, which also was a great film. But those Batman films he did were awful. However I agree that he takes way too much blame for those failures. The studio, producers, etc. are equally to blame.

What I loved about Batman '89 was the whole look. Burton made Gotham look "gothic", how bout that? There's something about Nolan's "realistic" Gotham that falls flat, when you know you're looking at Chicago.

Well, after seeing it a second time tonight here are my final sentiments: wow, what a film. Downey owns the role of Stark; the film was hilarious at times and thrilling at others; the plot and script were great...overall it was a ton of fun to watch and I can't wait for the DVD (Blu-Ray hopefully) release of the film.

10/10

Agreed 100%.Batman just seems out of place on that setting that Nolan created for that character.

Gotham city is a crucial element to the whole Batman mythos. It's important that the filmmaker get it right.

I also, agree that Schumaker is a good director and it's true that WB were partially to blame for the silliness of Batman 3 and 4. However, I still have issues with Schumaker for agreeing to make the Batman films hokey if he didn't want to. This is probably part of the reason why Burton left after Batman Returns. Matthew Vaughn's departure from the X-Men 3 disaster is a similar situation. He left because of too much studio interference and I respect him for that. Brett Ratner should have done the same but, since he didn't he will always have a spot on my comic book director hack list.

Unfortunately, the golic look was the only thing I liked about Batman 89. The film still has too many other flaws that drive me crazy. It's true that Nolan's Gotham looks too realistic but, that is the only thing which bothered me about Batman Begins.

Funny thing is I actually liked Batman Returns better than Batman 89. After seeing how lackluster Batman was my expectations for the sequel were so low I ended up enjoying the film. The dialogue was crappy but, Danny Devito was pretty damn funny as the Penguin. The scene were the Penguin was controlling the batmobile made me laugh the hardest out of all the original Batman films.

Iron Man was awesome (this is an IM thread, right :woot:)

Gotham falls flat when you know you're looking at Chicago?? Of course, I'm biased because I'm FROM Chicago, but come on. I loved B89, and yes the gothic elements were cool, but you didn't always get a sense of realism at times. I think Nolan really captured the gothic look of his Gotham, by camera angles, and the skyline shots of Chicago at night. IMO opinion, Chicago IS Gotham...you don't get any closer than that.

The skyscrapers, the old brick ones, not just the glass, the masonry of the older buildings, it just has such a nice look. I am proud to say my city represents Gotham (believe me, I think it's better than us trying to get the Olympics!!)

I agree. Tranformers is a fun movie and it has considerably more action than Iron Man but, the storyline was weak. I prefer sci-fi films with great storylines and decent action over films with non-stop action and zero plot. Iron is clearly the better film. This might be the closest thing to a perfect comic book film that we will ever see.

I would say the difference is in the level of satisfaction. People wanted to see Downey's wit and the awesome things Iron Man can do. The movie satisfied that. People wanted to see more Transformers and less humans. Transformers satisfied most, but the persistent complaint is that there was too much offside chatter from the real focus. In that way, I think Fav's film managed to feed the audience's urges more sufficiently than Bay's film.

Iron man even managed to knock spidey 2 from my list of fav superhero movies of all time...hehehe

btw.. some of the flight scenes kinda made think of the rocketeer movie...

Anybody still remember that movie?

They're TOTALLY to blame, imo. Schumacher gave them what they asked him for. Simple as that.

All i remember about the villains was timothy dalton as a nazi agent of some kind.

But it was a fun movie.

I saw it again yesterday after a week and was even more impressed on second viewing. Women are definitely digging Robert Downey Jr. as a more mature leading man, certainly more so than Tobey Maguire. And it doesn't drag for a minute, something I can't say about any other recent superhero flick, including Spidey 2.

I've never been that much of an IRON MAN fan, but I'm starting to think this film may just be the most fun superhero movie ever made.

It's impressively faithful and well-paced, it has perfect casting, great special effects and -except for a couple of minor vulgarities- it's completely "family-friendly."

You took the words right out of my mouth. The film was fun, intelligent, funny, and even occasionally moving. It didn't hurt that Downey stole the show, either.
