according to the spill.com podcast, Caryle (aka C. Robert Cagrill aka Massaworm of aint it cool) said that Jonah Hex was formed and greenlit before DC Entertainment, so WB just dump Hex with Toy Story 3 just to bury it and forget it.

That's too bad for the Hex fans. Maybe through DC Entertainment, Jonah Hex could've been a good film.

Van Wilder isn't his best effort to date...

That's just been the best effort you have seen... which means you need to watch better movies...

So what's his best movie? Wolverine? Blade 3? The Proposal? Sorry the dude is not a good actor, he's just a smart ass. But if they can make Toby Maguire passable, then there is hope for Ryan.

I actually laughed last night when I heard it made 5 million... poor little movie :(

I won't be helping the situation, if I see anything this week it'll be Toy Story 3.

Those arn't his only movies.

Chaos Theory, Fireflies in the Garden, Nines, Smokin Aces (yes, Smokin Aces he did awesome in, even if it was a dumb action movie, he was the emotional center), Amytville Horror, Foolproof, and Finder's Fee, all strayed from the Van Wilder persona, and he has Buried coming out. I am also confident that I could pinpoint specific characteristics of Hal Jordan from these different roles that would accumulate to a great depiction of Hal Jordan. And some of these are older and he has only improved IMO.

I agree.

Tobey was great in Pleasentville and even Seabiscuit.

He's also an actor who doesn't embody the roguish alpha-male quality that actors like Robert Downey Jr or even Bill Murray has. Some people have it in their genes.

has a voice cast been released for the upcoming animated short

The second DC Showcase animated short, Jonah Hex, will appear as a bonus feature on the Special Edition Blu-Ray and 2-Disc Special Edition DVD release of Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Scripted by renowned author Joe Lansdale and starring the voices of Thomas Jane (Hung), Linda Hamilton (The Terminator), Michelle Trachtenberg (Mercy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Michael Rooker (Days of Thunder), the DC Showcase short is based on the award winning comic series. The short is rated PG-13.

In the DC Showcase story, the tough-as-nails bounty hunter Jonah Hex always gets his man - until someone else gets to him first - in this case a murderous madam who wants to steal more than just her bounty from Jonah Hex.

Prior to Brolin's casting, actor Thomas Jane petitioned the studio for the role, hiring a makeup artist to give him the appearance of Jonah Hex. Jane will lend his voice as Hex in the upcoming animated short.

I feel bad for all of the actors involved with this movie, including Megan Fox. (I know she's an easy target but I'm not a fan of kicking someboy when they're down)

There were really talented actors in the movie, and it's almost embarrassing to see a movie bomb like this.

That just goes to show that good actors don't equate to a good movie. Just look at The Wolfman; Hopkins, Weaving, Blunt and Benicio...the recipe for a great movie, you'd think, and look at how that turned out.:csad:

I think the worst part about all of this as a Hex fan is that I done even see this being re-booted 10 years down the line, I think this movie has ruined any chance of another Hex movie being made.

Bull! I hardly imagine anyone letting a comic property just rot somewhere. Punisher was redone twice for God's sake. And between his appearances on brave and the bold and the upcoming short this is already a new generation of kids just being introduced to him who will eventually be part of the bigger demographic these movies are aimed at.

I'd like to see Eastwood take a crack at making a Hex movie. I want to see it as a good old fashioned spaghetti western. Too bad Sergio Leon is dead.

Oh man. Such ignorance pisses me off.

Go watch Definitely,Maybe and the recently released Paper Man and tell me Ryan Reynolds is a bad actor. He isn't the best around but he is a solid actor overall, not to mention he nailed Wade Wilson in Wolverine.(unfortunately one of the only good things about that movie)

His other notable good acting projects would be Smokin Aces and Chaos Theory. Not to mention he was hilarious in Waiting and several other comedies.

I thought Jane should have got the role of Hex in the live-action film. He's such a great, yet underrated actor.

However, I'm glad he nabbed the voice role for this Hex short. Im gonna buy the DVD just for that.

Don't forget "Buried." :cwink:

yea i am sure gl is going to be a success and if so it will probably help some of the bigger guns like flash and ww to hopefully get going and all that. As for hex bombing, first it sucks there was so much issues with the studio over the film and all that. It could have probably been a better film with them not mucking around with it so much. I do hope if there is an extended cut dvd it will make it a better film(like most fans say did for Daredevil a few yrs ago).

Though with hex bombing it will probably make wb a bit leery on what directions they might take for lesser guys like sgt rock, swamp thing, deadman and others like those. They will probably be less likely to greenlite them. And if they do they will probably want to make them on the low.

Exactly. And if GL doesn't do good either then you can count on getting nothing but Batman and Superman. Do you guys think we'll see a directors/unrated cut? Also does anybody know how much stuff may have been cut out or not added?

Well, remember that Jonah Hex and The Losers are NOT DC Entertainment produced films (GL will be the 1st of, hopefully, many DC films to come under DCE.), Hopefully this will be the last of poor adaptations of DC characters and the start of more successful, quality ones from DCE including GL and post-GL. Hope GL succeeds quality-wise and prove to be a huge B.O. hit as well and everything else will roll after.

IMO, The Losers were pretty good :awesome: :word:, a good action film adaptation of the book thats a tad bit watered down due to it being PG13 but still was able to retain the spirit/essence of the comic series unlike Jonah Hex was just an utter editing/tone of a mess... :cmad: :wall:

I agree to see an extended cut for JH and see how it improves from its theatrical cut, if they plan on doing one.

Regarding other lesser known, obscure DC character adaptations, CCO Geoff Johns is already hard at work for a blue beetle (jaime reyes) live action tv series that has yet to get a green-light for production among others. (suicide squad, WW, Sleeper, and 100 bullets.)

WB was the one that decided to take Jonah Hex in this stupid ******ed direction.

Guy Ritchie was smart for once in dumping Lobo. It would've been the exact same thing.

Like i said, JH is not under DCE and WB turned it from R to PG13 once Watchmen bombed at the B.O. I read the original script w/ the Crank writers and it was everything we were hoping for and more! Here is what could had been... Such a wasted opportunity... :csad:

Jonah Hex script review

EL MAYIMBE here…

I’m a huge fan of CRANK’S Neveldine and Taylor. Two of the craziest ****ers working in Hollywood today. These boys can write too. I was halfway through JONAH HEX and loving the **** out of it when my studio reader buddy CAXE called me up and asked me for something hot to read. I passed it along to him for a second opinion and I agree with pretty much everything he says below. The dialogue alone in JONAH HEX had me rolling. The only exposure I got to Jonah Hex was back in the day on BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. I hope the studio has the balls to make this because ya’ll would be in for one hell of a ride. Let’s see what CAXE had to say below…

Hey Mayimbe!

I’ve been lucky to read some good stuff lately – Public Enemies was top notch, and now that luck continues with a rather surprising diamond in the rough – comic property Jonah Hex by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. And before you worry that this is one of those countless minor superheroes being stretched into a movie to earn a few bucks, do not worry because it is far from the ****** comic book translations as of late - I predict it now, Jonah Hex will be a kick ass movie; it’s basically Sin City crossed with Payback and Unforgiven.

If you aren’t familiar with the Western-themed DC anti-hero, don’t worry – you don’t need to be.
This is an origin story of sorts – and one helluva an origin at that. All you need to know is that Hex is a facially-scarred, one-liner spewing badass bounty hunter right out of the Civil War. What he lacks in rugged-good-looks he makes up in mystique – bordering on legends, the rumors, about him are mighty, and for good reason; the man just can’t seem to die.

Now I’m going to be vague on purpose because so many of these scenes are so gosh-darn entertaining and unconventional that I don’t want to spoil them – take that as a sign of how much I enjoyed this.

We open on JONAH HEX bringing a few ne’er-do-wells to the town of Stunk Crick to collect on a bounty. But things don’t work out as expected and there’s a large shoot-out. I’ll give you one guess who walks out in one piece. The encounter does not bode well for Jonah and he gets his ugly mug on a wanted poster with a hefty sum attached.

Meanwhile, a group of ruffians led by the baddest madman of the West, QUENTIN TURNBULL, blow up a train full of soldiers, women, and children. They make off with the train’s contents, most of which happen to be munitions for the recently-successful Union army.

Later on, Jonah visits LEILA, a lovely raven-haired lady of the night who happens to have a thing for him. As Jonah’s enjoying himself, a troop of government militia, led by LIEUTENANT GRASS, rides into town searching for the bounty hunter.

Jonah gets word of this and races out of town like a bat out of hell; but after a long chase, he is cornered by the men. Jonah tells them to get on with shooting him, but Grass laughs, saying that they aren’t there to arrest him, they’re there to employ him as a bounty hunter. The target? Quentin Turnbull.

Grass says Jonah is perfect for the job – not just because his reputation as a tracker precedes him, but also because of his history with Turnbull, a history in which Jonah is responsible for death of Turnbull’s son, and, based on Jonah’s reaction, probably much more. In response, Jonah now laughs, saying that Turnbull killed himself after the war. Grass tells him that Turnbull is very much alive and a huge threat to the recently restored Republic. Hex quickly agrees and sets off in search of Turnbull.

En route, Jonah has to drudge up his dark and haunted past to try to locate Turnbull and uncover his plan, but those familiar with Jonah aren’t exactly happy to see him when he comes around. And even though he does have allies in his quest, that price on his head can be pretty tempting, as can the desire for revenge.

My summary has not done justice to the work of Crank co-writers and directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. While Crank isn’t a work of art by any standards, in Jonah Hex, these fellows have crafted something truly entertaining that has, on top of crackling, hilarious dialogue and gritty, no-holds-barred action sequences, seriously fantastic story elements to it. A lot of subtle clues introduced early into the story come into play later on and provide some pretty nice pay-offs. And the set pieces for this flick are going to be top notch.

I think the thing I liked most with this was the character of Jonah Hex. Neveldine and Taylor do a superb job of making a relatively minor DC character larger than life and honestly show that he does indeed merit a full film, if not more. All of the dialogue is well-done, but Jonah is one-of-a-kind. His sense of humor, his personality reminds me of a weird combination between Marv from Sin City, Beetle Juice, and Dr. Gregory House from the FOX series House.

But don’t get the wrong idea – he’s not chatty, he’s a man of few words, which also really ramps up the mystique of the character as well. Throughout, we get little snippets of people discussing various legends about the guy, a sort of SNL Bill Brasky / Chuck Norris facts thing. I hope they don’t change this because it adds so much – we get the whole idea of Hex: people loathe him, fear him, respect him, and, based on the legends, wonder about him since no one knows the full truth except Hex himself.

My only complaint: the ending is a letdown, mainly because the rest of the script is so goddamn amazing. There are so many ways in which comic book and western clichés could be paraded around, but Neveldine and Taylor subvert them every time, setting up conventional situations over and over again and just finding every way to blow them straight to hell just like Jonah Hex. Well, all except the ending, which is the only conventional thing in the whole damn story. Honestly, I half expected, half wanted an ending that was hardcore and uncompromising, just like everything else – but all I got was an off-into-the-sunset. I understand Hex has traces of humanity, I understand we get to understand him better as a person, so I can take some of the humanity, but please, don’t just end with that – give me bleak, give me desolate, give me something funny – just don’t give me what you have now – please! It’s the only reason Jonah Hex is not getting an A+.

Beyond the ending, I got nothing but sheer enjoyment from Jonah Hex. It’s not perfect – there are about a dozen too many fart/ass/piss/**** jokes, some of the action scenes get a small touch repetitive, and, as mentioned, the ending puckers out big time, but it’s got the right balance of action and humor – and I’ve got faith it’ll come around before 2010. Even if it doesn’t and it’s set in its present form, it’ll still be one hell of a ride.
