The Official Kevin Durand/Blob Discussion Thread

Strong guy? what the hell... I like blobs treatment in the film...of course I don't really care for blob... but I care less for strong guy...

Eh I'm indifferent to either one. I like the look of movie Blob though. That looks ****ing cool

and doesn't Blob have like 20 years of comic history on Strong Guy anyway? :p

But Strong Guy has gotten more development being a main stay on a comic like X-Factor (especially with a writer like Peter David always using him) wheras Blob has been usually written as a joke villain since the 60s where he was oddly enough one of the most powerful X-Men villains.

I think the only reason they used Blob in the first place is because they've been meaning to use him for so long and they didn't get around to it until this film so they put him in even if it doesn't really make sense (like Gambit). They couldn't have a military guy be fat so they changed it so he just gets fat normally, making his girth something Blob is ashamed of instead of something he appreciates because it's part of his powers.

I don't mind them changing stuff, but they kinda just took away one of the character's defining personality traits. The only thing that really identifies this as Blob anymore is that he's fat.

/\ Agreed. But hey they can't please every fanboy, even though all we want is our beloved characters the treatment they deserve.

What exactly is going on with Blob, I don't really understand what they are doing with the character, can someone please update me here...

I would have preferred him as Strong Guy. Blob was always the type of guy that reveled in his fattery. It wasn't a source of shame.

Exactly, his fat (or gooey mutant kinetic body goo) is his power. He's not going to go to Jenny Craig.

I'm also not a fan of having Blob start out as a muscular/fit mutant.

That and it's a Fox film. Fox films for unexplained reasons usually feature fatsuits...I think they're just trying to find jobs for their fatsuit department. :p

"Hey, Bob how's that suit comin'."
"Great! Actually been pretty busy. You?"
"Just got laid off." "Down sizing, economy, an all, ya know?"
"Ooh...sorry to hear it, shoulda made a fatsuit."

:facepalm

and not using Strong Guy in this movie only helps the case if the main discrepancy is history vs development. I mean, if you're asking to put Strong Guy in the movie, then if he's so popular and such a deep character, you don't want to waste him on a few minutes of screentime. With Blob, a recognizable minor character that's been around forever and has never really had much of a history and has been trying to be put in a movie since 1999, I'd say go for Blob. It's a win-win for him..or I should say, there's more benefit to having him in a movie with a small role than Strong Guy.

And like others have said...You could use the comics and the canon as a basis for a character, but since these are movies (which can be considered an alternate universe), you don't need to get hung up on the one portion of the movie where Blob isn't huge and fat....if, he's not that important of a character anyway. ;)

I'm still confused about why he seems muscular at first can someone please fill me in?

I don't like how they explained why Blob got fat. It would of been better if they said, he was mutatuing even further or hell, Weapon X experimenting on him would of worked too.

No, he starts off muscular, then because of the certain events that make him and the others quit Weapon X he turns to eating for comfort. Sorta like post traumatic stress, but instead of booze or drugs, he turns to food! :D

That... wow that's horrible. I mean they took away his POWER. I thought it was something like he was experimented on by weapon X or that he mutated further but that is just wrong.

His fat WAS his source of power, when de-powered in the comics he gets superthin but all the excess skin is all thats left. I just think of it as 're-invention' or 'alternate universe' , so it doesn't bother me that he end's up fat, just that he's ashamed of it is what would bother me(haven't seen the workprint).

That's what I always assumed when reading the comics. That he was always fat because that in fact was part of his power.

I don't mind that he starts out muscular and gets fat later I guess...mainly because he's the Blob. I mean really, how many fans does that fat tub of lard really have??

Again that's always what I thought his power was is that he was immovable because he was so fat and that bullets deflected off of him due to his girth.

Now what would have been real easy is not change his origin, He could have still been a part of the team. The character counterpart is not agile but can hang with any 'military unit', the guy has stamina to sell. Why change the simple things? It boggles my mind.

It definitely boggles the mind.

Which is why I'm just going to go with what Chaseter was saying about a Deadpool film. I bet it had to do with showing Kevin Durand's face and muscles without all the makeup on. It cracks me up because I thought part of the fun in acting would be to play characters like these and mainly to become them. That's why I lose a bit of respect for actors, film makers and even fans that think it's NOT ok to never show the actors true face...even if the character requires it...or should require it.
