The Official LittleBigPlanet Thread

I was enjoying it but I played it with 3 other people a few days ago and had a blast.

I've never played LBP before, but a lot of my friends do. It looks pretty cool, but how is the online play?

Its fun if you can get a good connection, but often it can be laggy, especially if you have 4 players at once

:applaud

I applaud Sony and i am really happy for them.
This all just makes me realise how much i´m losing my faith in Microsoft and the Xbox 360

Thats great news. LBP is officially a first party game now. MM is a great developer and they can create more Create, Play, Share titles for Sony. Id love for Sony to snatch up Insomniac next but the partnership they have going on, probably works best for them
Maybe not that much.
Last time i read, Insomniac said is going to start making multiplatform games, so, unless they buy them, the next game can very well end on the 360 too.

Sony funds all their projects and the partnership is beneficially mutual to both of them. If they went multiplatform, they'd have to get a publisher, and the biggest ones right now are Activision, EA and Ubisoft, and I dont see them wanting to go down that direction bc they swallow up smaller companies.

Where did you read this?

I'm not saying this in a fanboyish way (saying that since I'm mentioning MS), but Sony seems to be one of the safest routes for a small developers to trust to back them (or buy them). MS, Activision, and EA have all bought smaller developers and then closed them while absorbing the titles (not necessarily the workers). Sony so far has seemed willing to back unknown and unproven titles like Heavy Rain for years on end, and has tons of 1st party developers still up and running and lets them continue to pump out the titles they want to make.

Of course on the other hand titles do generally sell better on the 360, so it's no wonder most 3rd parties are going multi-plat. With Insomniac tho Sony has been good to them, and like Havok mentioned here Sony's been good to them and funded their projects. As long as their current partnership works I see no reason for a need to buy them, if they went multi-plat with a major title and made the 360 the lead console with a PS3 port, that would be a slap in the face to Sony and Insomniac would lose a major supporter (I don't see that happening).

Look who's making an appearance next week

Sonic the Hedgehog, along with Sonic’s alter-ego beast form, the WereHog, his pals Knuckles and Tails, and his nemesis Dr. Eggman have come to LittleBigPlanet to break some sound barriers! You can get all five individual character costumes for SackBoy, but you’ll want to be sure to pick up the Costume Kit that not only includes all five costumes, but also a selection of retro stickers based on the classic Sonic the Hedgehog adventures. This way you can make your own Sonic levels with Sonic style!

Oh that is sweet.
yeah it is. MM dropped the ball though on not having more level themed DLC. I was really excited about that when the game was announced but so far all we got was the Pirates and MGS ones. I was expecting a Disney and Ratchet one and Sonic would have been a good idea too. Oh well. At least some of the creators out there have some pretty good stuff

It'll come. It took ages for Disney's pack to come after being announced at E3

I need to get back into this game. Love those Sonic costumes.

Game's getting a sequel

UK, March 23, 2010 - In what seems to be a record day for big announcements made in underwhelming ways, Sony has confirmed the existence of LittleBigPlanet 2, with a company representative confirming that the game will support the Move controller.

News comes via Tweakers.net (thanks Eurogamer), with a Sony Benelux employee revealing that motion control would be a part of the game. Sony recently bought Media Molecule, who previously worked on the exceptionally well received original game.

IGN has approached Sony Computer Entertainment Europe for official confirmation.

I'd rather not see a LittleBigPlanet 2. There's no need for it at all considering how much support the original game gets.

A LBP sequel this gen just doesn't make sense to me, it should be 1 title per gen and just support it via DLC. What can they add to the sequel that isn't in it already, or can't be added via DLC? The graphics are already great, and DLC has already added in guns, and other gameplay altering additions. DLC has also already added in more music options, more textures, stickers, and so on. What could they logically add to make it worth purchasing a new title?

To be fair, I see nothing wrong with it overall. MM needs to make money and stay relevant, and putting out a new title does that. I guess it's just that I'm not seeing what they could do to make a sequel any different from the first title that couldn't be done via DLC or a patch. It's not like it's Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2, with those they told a completely different story, different characters, voice acting, gameplay mechanics, added multiplayer, and so on. With LBP, you make everything yourself.

I guess my only real gripe (all the previous stuff wasn't a gripe, it was confusion) is if things aren't backwards compatible. If the maps everyone made can't be played on the sequel, and the DLC doesn't work, and then the sequel itself doesn't add much more then Move functions, then it'll be a rip off (IMO) and definitely not worth a purchase. Buying the sequel to find out it was virtually the same game, but all of the stickers, costumes, etc. I bought is useless would suck badely. Even tho I loved LBP, I haven't played it for a long while, and would hate to shell out $60 to find out I took a step backwards in not only content, but losing the ability to play all of the awesome LBP 1 levels the community made.

I welcome a sequel and Im glad they are working on one.

Looks like the Sony quote was misinterpreted and there actually isnt a sequel coming

http://connectedconsoles.com/ps3-Sony-Comment-On-LittleBigPlanet-2-Speculation.cfm

In a recent interview, it looked like Sony Benelux brand manager Folkert Langeveld had confirmed a Sackboy sequel when he said the words 'LittleBigPlanet Twee', translating into 'LittleBigPlanet 2'. Unfortunately, this isn't the case.

The interview was set around the PlayStation Move, making many automatically believe that this was the confirmation of a sequel, and its support of the motion controller. Instead, we got in touch with SCEE, who told us the following:

"As demonstrated recently at GDC, LittleBigPlanet has been shown as an example of how an existing game could benefit from PlayStation Move Motion Controller support. This is not a confirmation of LittleBigPlanet 2, and we do not have any announcements to make about the LittleBigPlanet franchise."

So for the moment, there isn't a LittleBigPlanet 2. We wouldn't though, rule the game out for an E3 announcement in June, or at the Tokyo Games Show in September.
