The Official Manhunter Thread

[blackout]It's Blue Beetle.[/spoiler]. Good issue, but too-talky-but-not-the-good-kind-of-talky.

If it's been done please delete or merge. I searched around though and was surprise to not find a thread on one of DC's greatest titles. Now that it's back I think it's appropriate to have a discussion thread. Who else has read the last two issues?

There were a bunch of little threads about Manhunter, so I merged them into this one. It's a good series; I figured it deserved an "Official" thread.

Yes it most certainly does. I thought the new Beetle's appearance would be annoying but Andreyko managed to make it enjoyable.

Why? By all accounts the new beetle is awesome. I wouldn't know, i'm not reading it though.

I only read the first arc of his ongoing so I can't really speak on it as a whole but I didn't enjoy that arc so I dropped the book. I was excited initially over the character as one thing that has always appealed to me most about DC was the legacy aspect of the characters and the diversity found in the DCU as far as cultures and nationalities go.

But his execution thus far in his guest appearances save for this one haven't really impressed me. I don't know maybe I was just too much of a Ted Kord fan and expected more of his replacement and I do recognize he's still growing in his role. But I just don't find the writing for that character compelling at least not yet.

My favorite part of the last issue was easily the convo between Kate and Mr. Bones. I've experienced similar convos first hand since I'm a black man by race and Dominican American by nationality. People always expect me to sympathize with colored folks all the time just cause I'm colored but I sympathize with people only based on their own convictions not cause they look like me or don't look like me so that entire convo rang true to me.

I didn't know until this issue. They should throw in some jive talk or have him watch Shaft or something. :)

I felt like that conversation was more about white people thinking they can possibly have any idea what it is to be black in America, than about rejecting ethnicity.

Yeah you're right but one perception some white people have about all non-whites is that we all could somehow always take each other's side on a matter or what not when it's far from the truth. I think that's part of the reason Bones said what he said about people thinking they could be down with the cause but are not. Cause they expect most to fall under some type of stereotypical group think.

Like at my job these white cats brought up the whole illegal immigration thing that's a big issue in this country now. Well I come into the breakroom and they go silent for a bit then when they see I'm not fazed by any of this ask for my take. Needless to say they were shocked that I didn't sympathize with people who come into this country illegally and remain that way for decades even though I have dark skin and am fluent in spanish. What hit home about that section of the book was the fact that there are some white people out there who think everybody is completely readable just because they fall under a certain race or culture.

I'm resisting the impulse to argue your immigration stance so hard...

I don't care. I'm not Mexican, nor do I have a desire to sell fruit on the highway, so they're not bothering me.

I'm just saying. If there are no illegal immigrants, whose gonna give me a 5 dollar HJ in my motel room on those lonely road trips through the southwest? Haitians? Bulls**t.

Most Haitians are illegals too. They come like 75 at a time on boats.

People in Miami care about Cubans. Don't forget Elian.
