They mix forceful, violent (if not homoerotic) lyrics and imagery with hard driving guitars and screaming to make Manly Metal. Let us analyze the words of these great bards for the true kernels of meaning hidden within. Each week, I will post the lyrics to one of the songs from their impressive catalog so that we may discuss. We will begin with the title track song that REALLY got them on the map, with their 1987 album, "Fighting The World":

Fight, fight, fight

Fighting the World every single day
Fighting the World for the right to play
Heavy Metal in my brain
I'm fighting for Metal cause it's here to stay

Fighting, fighting, fighting the World
I been fighting the World
Fighting, fighting, fighting the World
I been fighting
Fight for a living-Fighting the World
Fight for a living-Fighting the World
Fight for a living-Fighting the World
Fight

Now people keep asking if we're going to change
I look'em in the eye
Tell'em no way
Stripes on a tiger don't wash away
Manowar's made of steel not clay

Fighting,fighting,fighting the World
I been fighting the World
Fighting,fighting,fighting the World
I been fighting
Fight for a living-Fighting the World
Fight for a living-Fighting the World
Fight for a living-Fighting the World
Fight Yeah!

See my brother standing by my side
Only got one thing in our mind
Radio playing this nation wide
Turn it up louder'til we all get fried

Fighting,fighting,fighting the World
I been fighting the World
Fighting,fighting,fighting the World
I been fighting
Fight-Fighting the World
Fight-Fighting the World
Fight-Fighting the World
Fight-Fighting the World
Fight for a living-Fighting the World

I really feel that this passage in particular is a not-so-subtle allusion to gay pride. The reference to "steel not clay" is clearly a thinly-veiled nod to their erections, and the rest of the verse indicates that they refuse to change for anyone as that is who they are (stripes on a tiger don't wash away).

They all look like Feddy Murcury whats up with that? :S

Hahaha, Manowar. I believe it was Master Blaster or someone here who loved them.

Also, the reference to the gayest animal in the animal kingdom (the tiger) is easily Manowar's way of letting us know...you know.

Actually, the gayest animal in the animal kingdom is the flamingo, but let's just say that nearly everyone in the jungle knows not to let a tiger get you drunk.

You'll all have to live together in a large loft in New York City to make it truly effective.

If it meant looking that cool, I'd move us all into a skip (dumpster)

Manowar always makes me laugh

and the people who take their lyrics seriously make me laugh even more

I think that the portions I highlighted serve to show the real message behind this song.
you'll easily see how they say fighting, but they mean "anal sex having"

LOFL! I was on a business call, half listening and browsing this thread when I saw this and I just burst out laughing. The person I was talking to now thinks I'm insane. :D

You're right.

Then there is this passage:

Fighting the World every single day
Fighting the World for the right to play
Heavy Metal in my brain
I'm fighting for Metal cause it's here to stay

It's clear that the words "heavy" and "metal" are a euphemism for "gay pride". While I truly have no problems with gay people or gay pride, this approach of Manowar's seems almost militant and that is a bit worrisome. Extremists are a scary bunch.
