The Official Manowar Lyrics Analyzation Thread

Then there is this passage:

Fighting the World every single day
Fighting the World for the right to play
Heavy Metal in my brain
I'm fighting for Metal cause it's here to stay

It's clear that the words "heavy" and "metal" are a euphemism for "gay pride". While I truly have no problems with gay people or gay pride, this approach of Manowar's seems almost militant and that is a bit worrisome. Extremists are a scary bunch.

Wait, the Rainbow army is greenpeace, they can't use that name.

has anyone heard the 80's metal band called Thor?

I have. They weren't as Manly as Manowar, though. :o

Indeed. Manowar plays Manly Metal. All Thor ever played was his self-labelled "muscle rock" (which was a pretty blatant attempt to rip off KISS and Alice Cooper).

the other day, we were at a friend's house listening to his collection of vinyls (he has a pretty extensive collection, by the way) and smoking weed, and as we were randomly picking out albums for our listening pleasure, I stumbled across his debut album
although I questioned him for having such album, he declined comments
on a very coincidential note, we played some manowar later in the evening

Rob Zombie is todays Alice Cooper.

it was so bad, it went into good territory and back into bad territory again

Brokeback Mountain should have manowar for the sound track.

I remember hearing some Thor back in '88 or '89 during my first year or two of college at a friends house (who, strangely enough, never confessed as to why he had that album). It approached artistic levels of terrible.

Like him or not (he's not really one of my faves, to be honest), he takes far more cues from Alice than Zombie does in his overall presentation and stage show, though Zombie's certainly been influenced by Cooper.

The difference is Zombie is mostly original. While Manson is a transvestite Gothic poser.

EVERYONE is a transvestite gothic poseur in the shadow of Manowar. You remember that!

I am straight, hate Goths and love Marilyn Manson. His glam wannabe period was superior to pretty much anything else that came out that year and I love rocking out to mOBSCENE, and that cool fight song where he snarls "I'm not a slave, to a God, that doesn't exist. I'm not a slave. to a God that doesn't give a s***."
Love his wicked slabs of slick chainsaw guitar and "F*** this ******ed world" attitude.

I like some of his songs, but overall he's not one of my favorites. Though I do appreciate the intelligence he tries to bring to what he does as well as his attitude. His approach to "shock rock" is definitely the divine continuation of what Alice Cooper started in my mind.

Time for a new set of Manowar lyrics for you people to disassemble and find the true meaning of. This time, the lyrics come from their "Sign Of The Hammer" album (thank God for Google 'cuz I'd never know about some of these songs), and the song is called:

All Men Play On Ten

I made a rock’n’roll sin
When I tried givin in to
Make money had to turn down low.
They said, why be proud, don’t play so loud,
Be like us and get a sound that’s real thin.
Wear a polyester suit, act happy look cute,
Get a haircut and buy small gear
That’s when I turned to them and said,
Hold it, right there!

Well it’s more to me than just a job,
And while I’m playin’ you won’t get robbed.
Nobody tells a man how to play,
It just ain’t that way hey, hey, hey,
Can you hear me say...

All men play on ten,
Never gonna turn down again.
All men play on ten,
Never gonna turn down.

I’m jet fuel honey, plug me into 220
Step back and let my fingers fly
While I’m burning up my gear
There’s a fire in your ear
That won’t stop until the day you die.

I really put it to the floor when I hear the crowd roar
Oh it’s music to my ears when they scream
Then I run back to the power rack
And deck all of my gear.

Well it’s more to me than just a job,
And while I’m playin’ you won’t get robbed.
Nobody tells a man how to play,
It just ain’t that way hey, hey, hey,
Can you hear me say...

Discuss. Analyze. Fantasize.

Riiiiight.

Anyway, I think someone mentioned that Master Blaster was a Manowar fan...he actually took them seriously.

Lol, I'm paraphrasing, but he said something to the effect of "God, I can't believe the state music is in today. Whatever happened to music about fighting for what's right, like Manowar?"

I laffed for a long time.

Also, check the overtly homosexual brilliance of this album cover:

Sorry, Manowar. Kings of Metal you are not.

Someone actually said that? And was serious?!

:(

Yeah, Master Blaster was every stereotype for an ultra conservative that you could care to mention.

How could anyone not laugh at Manowar? It's like the people who think Stephen Colbert is dead serious about the things he says on his show (yes, people like that do exist and I work with some of them).
