The Official NFL 2006 Season thread

How much confidence can be generated by quarterback Ron Mexico when backup Matt Schaub was considered an untouchable in trade talks?

The Falcons will win the NFC South. Mike Vike is a fine QB. Matt Schuab will be traded. The Patriots don't win their division.

Hmmm. No. One thing, if Matt Schuab was going to be traded it would have been this offseason as he wold have garnered at least a early second round pick at most a middle to late first round. They kept him because there starting to have doubts about Vicks continued health and overall disappointment as a "franchise" QB. Let me guess...the dolphin are going to win it right??

But they are Arizona - no matter who they have no one expects them to do well, so I consider them a sleeper team.

At one time, the phrase "but they are Tampa Bay" meant the same thing as above. Well, until they started to actually run their program like a professional football team that wants to win and make investments in the right players, coaches, etc... See any similarities?

Too many football people are picking Arizona to surprise people this year for them to be a "sleeper" team.

Correct me if im wrong, which im not but wasnt Arizona suppose to be a sleeper team last year as well? Histroy does indeed repeat itself.

Teams I see doing better this season:

New Orleans: With Drew Brees, they finally have a consistent QB, and the RB duo of Deuce McAlister and Reggie Bush ought to punish more than a few defenses.

Miami: Daunte Culpepper, now that he has a potential go-to reciever again (Chris Chambers), may not reach the heights he did with Randy Moss, because that was sheer chemistry, but it'll do great things for their offense.

Cleveland: They tried the Redskins formula of "Snag tons of good players and hope it works". And what a group they got (Bentley, Jurevicious, McGinest.... Zastudil).

Arizona: They have a running game now. 'Nuff said.

Yes, when some people stated before last season that Arizona could be a sleeper team, they were actually a sleeper pick because they weren't on the general radar of football people. Of course, the pick last year was a stretch and a true sleeper pick (the fact that they still weren't that good doesn't matter).

This year, I have heard Arizona as a surprise team by so many football poeple that they really won't be a surprise since they are being picked to do well by many people.

If someone says that the S.F. 49ers are their "sleeper" pick this year, that would truly be a sleeper pick. However, the Arizona pick has become almost a trendy pick (anything but a sleeper pick).
