Switch 2 pre-orders were supposed to begin on April 9. No longer. In an unprecedented move, Nintendo announced on Friday that it’s halting pre-orders for its upcoming $450 hardware launch because of new tariffs in the U.S. set to go into effect on April 5.
A statement from Nintendo, first obtained by GameSpot, reads: “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
Tbf, this could still be the truth. Nintendo probably was trying to account for tariffs with these prices. It wasn't until later that day when Trump revealed his tariff plans and they were even worse than what people were expecting.Nintendo Halts Switch 2 Pre-Orders Over Trump's Tariffs
They say it's the tariffs, but as the article notes, there have been a lot of people in the recent Nintendo Treehouse streams saying 'Drop the price,' and I think Nintendo realized they can't ignore that.
Pretty much. Keeping it relevant to nerd stuff, movie tickets are about to go up. Probably almost double cause movies are gonna be more expensive now, as will likely goods and costs for the theater. I know I saw a table show an average priced $25 figure is gonna be 36.49 or in that ballpark. That will also apply for Funkopops and anything else you may collect.Tbf, this could still be the truth. I have seen at least a few economists say their worst case scenario was not even this bad, so that says something. What they thought could be the worst, Trump managed to dig deeper to find an even more terrible result.Tbf, this could still be the truth. I think I had heard they were prepared for maybe 25% at absolute worst and that Nintendo had even picked Vietnam over China to produce them cause of the likelihood of China getting future tariffs in 2019. So yeah....Nintendo was blindsided.I have seen at least a few economists say their worst case scenario was not even this bad, so that says something. We couldn't have elected the black woman with the laugh instead. If the tariff on those games ends up 40%, then it's gonna be closer to $100. Rough math, 70 x .40(Aka 40%) = 28
70 + 28 = $98
Those same people are complaining about Naughty Dog and Projekt Red.Lots of whiny regressives wanted lower prices and an old racist in the White House. They got half of what they wanted.
That was legit suprising. My only issue is that the screen is LCD not OLED so I am in no hurry to 'upgrade' from my OLED Switch to the Switch 2
I've hated Pit since Brawl. I found him annoying and broken in that game. When I heard Sakurai was working on a new game I was hoping it was a new Kid Icarus.

Mid gen refresh! That was legit suprising.
Maybe they can call it a Pro this time. They absolutely do have a Switch 2 Lite and OLED planned.
