i'm not that surprised that minecraft is still in the top 10, but why the eff are the last gen versions the best selling?

I think it's also worth noting that Splatoon is number 5 here while releasing on May 29th, which makes me think sells were both good and that it will probably place again next month. I'm happy.

Minecraft is a pretty casual game that appeal a lot to kids and families, many of which probably haven't upgraded yet. Same reason franchises like Skylanders and Infinity are selling more on old gen.

yeah, looks like splatoon sold well.

but the thing is, it's been this way for like over a year. i would think that by now, the current gen versions should start outselling the last gen versions.

MCS_09-09-15.jpg

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain opened at 411,000 sales in Japan, this week’s Media Create sales figures reveal. It moved 293,600 units on PlayStation 4 and 117,500 units on PlayStation 3.

The release of the Hideo Kojima-directed sequel pushed PlayStation 4 hardware sales to 54,500 units this week, just less than triple the previous week’s sales, and 8,000 units higher than Dragon Quest Heroes pushed the platform when it launched in February.

First week sales for Metal Gear Solid V did not surpass those of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, however, which opened in Japan at 476,300 sales, according to Game Data Museum.

Also new this week is 5pb.’s Infinite Stratos 2: Love and Purge, which opened at 7,600 units on PS Vita and 3,000 on PlayStation 3.

Ps4 sold 209K. that's a 7K difference...

if that is indeed the case, then that's what I've been suspecting.

That while the PS4 is still winning the monthly sales, the actual difference is much smaller than it was at the beginning and the 2 consoles are essentially neck and neck here in NA.

It's gonna be pretty different from here on out though. Late q3 and q4 is when things get really competitive

true.

And MS SHOULD have the advantage with all the exclusives and BC and the Windows 10 update.

sony's got exclusive dlc with cod and a star wars bundle. last year, the special edition bundle worked out reaaaaaally well for them.

that is also true.

but those games aren't exclusives like the ones X1 has this year.

that being said, the PS4 will still most likely come out ahead this holiday.

Or it will be like last year, when the X1 won November and December, but then it reverted back to the status quo in January.

yeah, destiny wasn't exclusive last year either but Ps4 sold way more hardware the month of its release. star wars is releasing in november though, and the halo bundle if there even is one comes out late october I think, so yeah, maybe mS will take the cake this season.

BC and Windows 10 isn't going to be that big of a deal to most.

not as big a deal as the exclusives, but I can see BC attracting the 360 owners who have been on the fence and haven't upgraded yet to the X1.

Maybe some, but I doubt it'll be enough to matter in the grand scheme. More for enthusiasts than anything.

I feel like if mS announced BC with a "coming soon" at e3 2013 it would've had a way bigger impact than announcing it two years later

It's a feature that really only appeals to core gamers, so I don't think it would matter much even then. I mean, yeah, forum goers would maybe be pumping their fists, but the average, casual gamer moves on from game to game without revisiting older games much. Think to the PS3, it launched with PS2 BC, and it really didn't help matters for it much. There's just a lot of other factors that are vastly more important to the general gaming community.

that's because there was a lot going against the Ps3 at the time. I mean, there's not really a way to tell that BC is a feature that casuals don't care for and hardcore care for mostly, is there?
