yes, I do wear a hat. And Jack davenport is an above average actor, but far from great, look at the fiasco called coupling, although he is one of the better things in POTC, he is far from being a 'great' actor. May I ask who else you consider a 'great' actor?

Well in Pirates, Rush, Nighy, Depp, JD, Mcnally, Pryce, all fantastic, great actors...others, I am watching Star trek right now, so they are the first in mind, but Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, and Patrick Stewart...Pacino, DeNiro, Paul Newman, Brando, Willem Dafoe, Malkovich, DiCaprio, Damon...many others, but those are some of my favs

Jonathon pryce, Gael Garcia Bernal, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, cecilia roth, Fedrico Luppi are all beter than those on that list, although patrick stewart is amzing in his RSC stuff, and DiCaprio has given some good performances. Brando barely could act realistically, he spent his whole time squinting trying to read his lines off of cue cards etc. Malkovich is a decent theatrical actor and Dafoe has shown a lot of promise from acting, yet is far from a fantastic actor.

Without meaning to sound prejudice or assuming, but I would guess you have a limited scope of cinema viewing, from the selection of actors you've listed, I think you have chosen reasonable actors from the set of films I'm guessing you've watched.

That has nothing to do with it i was laughing at your ridiculous comment that Jospeh Gordon Levitt and those other cats are better actors than Pacino,De Niro and Newman

Deniro is a 2-dimnesional actor with no range. Pacino is very overrated, whilst having some great performances to his name, he fails to be as powerful as (for example) Joespeh Gordon-Levitt in Mysterious Skin, which is a hughely impressive performance. He has only recently moved to the silver screen, and every single performance he gives is of a high level showing a greater range. Whislt pacino's range is somewhat less.

i'm detecting sarcasm, but as due to the lack of a smiley, I'll take that as an acceptance of my arguement.

My guess is you think your taste in movies are better than everyone elses

Mine scope is just fine, sure I prefer entertaining movies, over classy ones, but I can still appreciate classy pictures too, I consider the actors I named great, because they alwasy deliver great performances, I think that is the definition of a great actor in my book...also those aren't the only actors I think are great, I just don't feel like going down the list

GGB isn't the mecca of acting btw, Jack Davenport is easily in the same league

Classy is the wrong term, classy made movies can come in any genre, the type of movies he's referring to are usually very niche in their appeal but not necessarily classy

That is a scary comment, whilst he is not the 'mecca' of acting, he is infinitely better than Jack Davenport, who is a stereotypical modern english actor, who's abilities are dwarfed by a vast multitude of people. GGB for example, I don't speak spanish, yet I can watch his films without subtitles and still be hugely moved, his power and presence on screen is undeniable.

Please go back to your MTV movies, before I cry:(

Gimmick game? it was a factual statement. Out of curiosity, have you seen mysterious skin? I highly recomend it, one of my fav films and truley excellent in terms of direction, narrative and acting.

This is a good point, by classy I ment like Chinatown which is fantastic, and he is referring to movies like The King, and Lost Athens, which are not classy movies (both GGB movies though, and nither is great, and only one is good)

chinatown is a simplistic and badly executed neo noir, whilst it does pay homage to the noir filmaking movement, it fails to truley grasp the core of it. Not to mention bad pacing etc, whilst not a brilliant film, it's reasonable, but by no means onwhere near the level of Amorros Perros

Much like your assesment of Pacino, and DeNiro you are wrong

I'm throwing all opinions out of the window, cause on Chinatown, Pacino, and Denior, you are wrong, and that isn't opinion

Then a wide amount of established filmic critics and filmmakers alike are also wrong, try to get your ass down to some festivals and mingle with the experts

I edited my thoughts due to my need to avoid being caught out twice in one thread:cwink:

Well personally I really liked Dead Mans Chest. And I am really looking forward to the new one.

Now I agree Pirates 2 was disappointing. After watching the special features I think it is a mix of the first one not needing a sequel, the writers having run out of a lot of ideas, the writers not being given enough time to write or finish a screenplay and the writer, director, cast and crew not having enough time to do a third movie on top of it (it becomes very clear the "trilogy" came from Jerry Brucheimer wanting twice the amount of money and stretching a thin story over two films).

With that said, I still throughly enjoyed the second movie as pure popcorn fare (done right unlike oh say Michael Bay) and is to the first what Temple of Doom was to Raiders of the Lost Ark or more adequately in comparison BTTF2 compared to the superior BTTF3. I remain hopeful b/c in both cases the third installment was a return in form (and Last Crusade arguably tops Raiders of the Lost Ark).

With that said I think the acting matches the simplistic story well. Save for Bloom who is a little better than he was in the first (thanks to Ridley Scott giving him a crash course in good acting, if not great with KOH) but Knightley and the rest play their parts well. And I can't understand how someone can criticize Depp, even if he is picking up a paycheck.

Also, to the point, anyone who says Brando could barely be realistic much less naturalistic loses a lot of respect around here then.
