the worst out of place scene in the movie IMO is : mai takes chi chi's blood.
there needs to be some deleted scenes. because no writter on earth would writte it like that.
mai couldnt know that chi chi and bulma and yamcha will be in the same building at night.

and mai didnt have to fight chi chi to take her blood.

This thread is kind of pointless. 90% of the people here set themselves up to hate this no matter the quality. It's called a self fulfilling prophecy. I thought it looked horrible, but still watched it without a preconcieved notion, and guess what? I loved it! And I am as big a BD/Z fan as you can find. It is different in many yes, but it is the same in many ways. And truly captures the essence of DB is supposed to be. The fights were good, they weren't as epic as say... DBZ fights, but this is not supposed to be DBZ yet, this is DB. And as Db it did great. Think of it like marvel's "Ultimate" series and just enjoy the movie.

Welll...you can't really use that excuse. They were fans of the material and they're pissed off that it didn't get the respect it deserved. Seeing as how it's coming from Fox, I'd say that's fair. I thought it looked horrible and tried lowering my expectations. Guess what? It was still horrible. Now for your points:

I want some examples of how it truly captured the essence of DB. You're entitled to your opinion, but it just baffles me when people throw out this statement. As for the fights, they were terrible. It doesn't matter if DB fights weren't as epic as DBZ fights. There were barely any fights at all for one. The wire work was atrocious. The last fight lasted 2 minutes. So much for action, eh? At least the DB fights in the anime were entertaining and lasted longer.

You can't keep pulling out this lame excuse anymore when most people have seen it and placed their votes. We've seen the pics, waited for the trailer and seen the film..its still garbage.

What excuse? If I watched any movie as a low quality obviously poorly edited bootleg that missed several story points, of course I'd think it wasn't very good. Jesus, ever read a book with pages missing and still try to make sense of it? Just admit that many of you jumped the gun on hating this movie and won't give a chance no matter what instead of continuing to act like you're innocent and just trying to save us all from wasting our money.

This movie will be a hit anyway, so whatever. Post until your fingers bleed.

What story points were missing out of this 90 minute farce? They're most likely none at all. No one is forcing you not to go see it in theaters. I'm sure they don't care if you waste your money. If it makes you happy, go for it. Fox doesn't deserve a single penny as far as I'm concerned. They've dished out ****** movies for the past 3 years now and I'm fed up with it to be honest.

maybe the US version really will be longer and have more fighting. i dont know.

i just know that they filmed fighting on the ground.

this was not in the movie in the version that i saw. did you?

something that was out of place.
goku transforms back from oozaru. piccolo says ''impossible''. then goku says '' something my gradfather tought me........first rule is there are no rules''
i am aware that he told him in the beginning of the movie. but why is goku saying this to piccolo ? so its a rule that oozaru can nto transform back? and goku is now saying that there a re not rules and he broke this rule?

i have a feeling that some dialoge is missing.

so its shorter then the flintstones and alvin and the chipmunks? both were 91 minutes.
why am i mentioning those movies? because both are for little children.

I am sure the decision to put this short version is from producers like Rothman, so in the dvd they will put the one with 108 minutes(more or less, i read this is the time on other forum), and the fans that soport this movie no matter what wont resisted and buy it.

Some fans like myself feel conflicted, it feels the same when i follow my soccer team, even if they play terrible, even if they have a bad year, i love the club so much i soport it no matter what, i curse the board of directors, i hate the coach, but eventually i am still watching the game.

The same with this movie, I grew with this franchise that put me into work outs, i remember watching the Cell games with all my friends of the block, laughing at Satan, cheering for Gohan and feeling sad when Goku die, and i feel sad that this movie is doing bad, and i dont want this franchise to go to hell due this movie, i know Fox knew this, still it will hurt me if the box office is poor compare with other franchises, so i still not deciding if i go at least one time to cinema and watch this, or i wait for the dvd to come with those extra minutes.

I think people are just setting themselves up for a fall.
Nobody has said anything about 100 minutes...that was a rumour that went around. Evn IMDB has removed the 100 minutes runtime from the site as everywhere has got 84minutes so it makes no sense why the US would be the only country to get a further 20 minutes.

Here is the first Australian review

Dragonball Evolution is a very poor film. It has the build quality of an Ikea cabinet put together by a labrador, and none of the charm. The script was, I imagine, not conceived by humans, but found deep underground, created by a race of extinct, horrible lizardmen with a vendetta against mankind, whom they were hoping to destroy with their screenplay. The dialogue is excruciating, and delievered by some of the least convincing actors you're ever likely to encounter.

Is up in australia allready?

That coment is harsh and funny.
You know what? people, and i include myself, believe that there is a version of 100 minutes, because a 84 minutes make Wong look very, very bad Director. and is hard to believe.

Just saw it tonight, aparently my friend had a copy... anywho...

it's def a 1 on my list. Quite possibly the worst movie i've ever seen, the writing was horrible, the acting was horrible, the directing was horrible. It looked like a bad 90's or cartoon network TV movie. I'm so glad i didn't pay to see this, for i would have definately requested my money back.

I sincerly feel sorry for all of you fans.

And i feel extra bad that the writer looks like he's attached to writing the luke cage movie :(

It does not matter what you believe.
Its 84 minutes. Its there in writing.

Produced by Hong Kong film-maker Stephen Chow Sing-chi but entirely missing his inventive stamp, the film is essentially a bland Hollywood dumbing-down of the books and animated TV series beloved by Japanese and Asian consumers for the last 20 years.

A coda midway through the end credits opens the door to a sequel but chances are the only sequels to this Evolution will be made for DVD or TV.

A popular Japanese manga series gets a pleasing if paint-by-numbers live-action makeover in "Dragonball Evolution," which half-heartedly tries to keep the faith for its pubescent male fanbase.

Despite his boyish looks, 28-year-old Chatwin feels too old to be a convincing adolescent. Chung also seems a bit too mature for her age, but since her come-on lines about how she likes guys who are "different" are every otaku's wet dream, target auds are less likely to complain.

^Variety review is positive.

barely. the bold paragraph from the Variety article basically states that this half-assed product should do well amongst people who are already fans but probably won't appeal to the masses.

Anyone who gives this movie above a five loses their credibility...

*cough*

if you're gonna play by those rules then it applies to EVERYONE who voted on the poll based on the bootleg....not just the ones who voted low scores.

I normally dont back comments like this but in this case I agree, yes I am aware everyone has an opinion and blah blah blah but gawddddddddddddd dammmmmmmmm this movie ****ing sucked.

It comes out here next week but from what I am reading here I am not really enticed to spend any time watching it. Is it really that bad?

Really? I mean, who cares? It's a movie. People like movies, people don't like movies.

i've only seen the bootleg which supposedly has around 20 minutes cut from the film, but coming from a DB fan since 91 (18 years ago), i have more fun watching the original Mortal Kombat than i do watching this film.
