The Official SDCC Coverage Thread

I'm no expert, but I would have removed the opening scene of Lex in the mansion, and replaced it with the RtK scene.
Since Lex is an evil genius, there was no need to explain where he got his money.
The first shot of Lex should have been of him on the yacht. I doubt folks watching would have wondered how he could have afforded it.

Yeah the remark Lois makes to him about the boat "What did you swindle some old woman for it?" would have been enough.

The movie never should have opened with Lex IMO. It just never felt right from the first time I was sitting in the theater.

Even though it throws the pacing off a little bit, I would have put the RTK sequence right in the middle of Superman's conversation with Lois on the Daily Planet rooftop. You know, right after he says "I had to see for myself..." and then we see the sequence as a flashback of sorts. I think that could have worked. I hope we see that sequence someday...Sequel or no sequel.

I still skip it when I watch S.R.

They'd be crazy not to use it in the opening of the sequel *IF* Brainiac is the villain. Add a little CG shot of him piggy backing on supes ship back to earth.

IMO the worst thing in SR is the yacht. Why did they spend millions to create a yacht?

Not a carrier, not a giant robot, not an alien ship but a yacht! A yacht and a old-style seaplane...what a waste of money.

Sure we all have opinions on SR, but if SR had been a great SUperman film a sequel would have already been greenlit and in production. I don't think there's any logical argument against that. Objetively, SR just fell in the middle. SOme liked, some hated, many were just, 'it's ok.' That's not the reaction to a great Superman film. It's what handcuffs a movie company on their next move.

So that means The Thing, Blade Runner, Braveheart, Memento, Fight Club and Pan's Labyrinth are all crap because they didnt make money? That an unbelievable flawed argument.

I'm sick of this, i think after reading 28 graphic novels, i know Superman, and i loved SR, so did many others, get over it.

Yeah, but if SR was a complete turd that made $750 million, a sequel would already be in the making too. It's not really about what you or anything thinks of the movie, it's all about how much the movie made for the studio. Now, quality and B.O. often do go hand in hand, but not always. Lots of people thought Speed Racer was fantastic, but you'll never see a sequel being made.

Exactly.

They said they would use the sequence in the sequel, so here's to hoping.

I didn't say that just b/c a film doesn't make $ that it's crap. SOme films make money even if they are crap. SOme people watch films that are crap, I even included myself in this when I stated it previously.

The argument is that SR just wasn't great it was mediocre at best and was lucky to do what it did financially.

The argument is that a GREAT SUperman film would undoubtedly have united the fans and connected strongly with the General Audience.

Not gonna get over it. Perhaps you should get over loving SR- see what I mean? I can't get over my opinion any more than you can get over yours.

Or luck is just a concept, nothing concrete and audiences actually went and saw the movie.

The argument is that a GREAT SUperman film would undoubtedly have united the fans and connected strongly with the General Audience.

Batman Begins did that. The Incredible Hulk did that (for fans at least; TIH had barely made better than Ang Lee's Hulk) and both made less than SR.

So there is a giant empty room available for doubt here.

Not gonna get over it. Perhaps you should get over loving SR- see what I mean? I can't get over my opinion any more than you can get over yours.

Then we'll keep replying to each other.

Not in this thread you won't, take it to the Superman Returns forums. I don't want to have to give either of you some time off to reflect on characterization of Superman, but I will.

No problem. I just forgot what thread we were in. Since he said previously he was going to drop it I assumed he did and we were free to debate in the proper thread. Please differentiate between the one who starts and the one who reacts.

When is the exact date of the con?

As El Payaso said, both BB and TIH are highly praised and regarded as quality by their fans, yet neither has made the money SR did, your logic is flawed.

And i think SR is great, that is MY opinion, you saying it was mediocre isnt a fact MJ, its YOUR opinion. Neither of us is factually right, it is just the opinion of two people.

Not gonna get over it. Perhaps you should get over loving SR- see what I mean? I can't get over my opinion any more than you can get over yours.

But do you hear me saying people who dont like it must like crap? Or some other such ********? NO, i respect the fact that people think differently from me. Never had a problem with you before MJ, but those comments were out of order.

But SR has a split the fan base, not united it. That's the point. Box Office aside. THe very fact that the opinion on SR is so split is evidence that SR was not a great film. I'm not even talking about box office. My logic is not flawed, I'm talking about fan reaction- not box office. The fan response to BB and TIH is almost all positive- those films don't have a faction of haters. SR does. Why? B/c it was not a great Superman film. Period. That's why I don't think we'll hear anything at SDCC (keeping it on topic).

I've said everyone likes somethings that are crap- even me, remember?

FOr the record- I'm taking some time off from the Superman forums. If there's news I'll come back to checkit out, until then, have a great summer all and enjoy TDK!

Heck I forget what day it is, but I am not your father, so I don't care who started it...as long as it ends. In this forum anyway. I don't need to differentiate, I need it to stop, because I hate migraines.

Enjoy your time off, mego, and I hope you enjoy TDK as much as I think I will. :yay:

Papa Showy. :oldrazz:

You really need to put yourself in check, you are not the "Ultimate Superman Fan" despite what you think about yourself.

Thanks, Showy. I'm sick of some folk who call themself that & think those who like what he don't love crappy movies. It his clever way of saying "You're not a true fan" & that kind of BS along with calling thing as "fact". :whatever:

Anyway, back on topic. Look like only 2 weeks to go before SDCC start. :word:

sigh... anyone know of any caravans driving from the midwest to head out there? :yay:

What is your evidence that SR split the fanbase? This web-site? Please Mega Joe, once again your logic is flawed, most fans of the FF loved the first movie, yet was it a good movie? Empireonline, Totalfilm.com, Bluetights.net, SR movie is well loved on ALL of these web-sites and more, not to mention this thread:

http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=278890

How strange, a movie so hated is coming SEVENTH in the 'BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER' thread, my god, the FAN BASE IS TRULY SPLIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've said everyone likes somethings that are crap- even me, remember?

But the fact of the matter is you are stating SR is crap as a fact, when it clearly isnt, its an OPINION. This ******** about people who like SR like crap is exactly that, ********, your Superman isnt everyone's, your tastes arent everyones, i happily admit when a movie i like is crap, but SR is GREAT IMO and many other peoples opinions.

Enjoy your time off. Hopefully the old Mega Joe comes back, not the arrogant one i am currently debating with.

Jamon, take this into the Superman Returns forum, I'm not going to say it again.

I've said everyone likes somethings that are crap- even me, remember?
I'll go on the record and say that I liked I Know Who Killed Me :p

... but please people, keep in mind it's just a movie...

as far as a sequel would go, I probably wouldn't watch one with Singer still attached... it would take a lot to convince me, like the SDCC coverage...

if it ever happens...
