He wasn't gone long. He came back a few issues later in The Mighty Thor. I dropped it a while ago so I couldn't tell you how it went down.

Karnilla, knowing the prophecy of Thor's death fighting the Serpent, was waiting for that moment to come. She allied herself with the troll kingdom and cast a spell to erase Thor from everyone's memories upon his death and replace him with Ulik disguised as a guy called Tanarus. Thor went where all forgotten gods apparently go, which is to be eaten by the Demogorge. But Loki somehow retained some small memory of a loving brother who was definitely not Tanarus. He investigated and started to learn about Thor. Heimdall also started to sense something was not right about Tanarus and investigated. While both of their memories of Thor were strengthening, Thor himself started regaining his memory. Once that process was complete, Mjolnir returned to him and he busted out of the line of gods waiting to be eaten, bringing a couple alien gods along with him. They returned to Earth, Thor killed Ulik, Frigga beat the crap out of Karnilla, and the rest of the Asgardians drove back the troll army. Karnilla and Geirrodur, the king of the trolls, were magically imprisoned in Ulik's skull and sent who-knows-where. So Thor's back.

I know I'm late to this game, but I visited Comixology.com out of curiosity, and pretty much every comic from 2012 was being sold at cover price. Holy ****. Does Comixology just overcharge their customers, or is this how everyone sells their digital comics these days?

There's this one comic of Spider-Man where it has a flashback to 911 to commemorate the tenth anniversary. Featured in the comic were various NY-based heroes such as The X-Men and FF--and Cap. But no Iron Man. Which leads me to believe that the Avengers were not yet formed?
What I don't understand is--how could they not be formed, but Cap was there? Didn't they find him in ice or something? And if that was retconned, I can't see a valid reason for IM to NOT be there, unless he was drunk or something, or he wasn't a superhero yet, which would make sense, seeing as his origin was retconned to have taken place during the war.
Help?

What would make you think the Avengers weren't yet formed? The fact that Cap was there pretty much proves that they were. IM just wasn't in the comic.

Also, IM's origin was retconned to have taken place at some point in Afghanistan.....doesn't mean it happened during the war. That particular area of the world has been a hot bed for war and terror for decades.
