The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 3

Not to mention what you mean by "All-Star Avenger" is that it's an extremely inclusive lineup that features a lot of heroes outside of the normal Avengers ranks.
Which seems to be nearly every major Marvel solo hero these days

Has been since the end of Siege, really, when Cap took over Osborn's position and basically decided to reformat the Initiative as an all-volunteer Avengers conglomerate.

I read Ultimate Comics X-Men and it looks like America has completely fallen apart (I'm guess because of Ultimatum). But when I read the first couple of issues of Spiderman everything seemed normal besides Miles saying something like "it's not good to be a mutant these days". Is the whole Ultimate line dealing with this broken America status quo? Is that the 'Divided We Fall' I saw on those books?

It seemed to me like they were heading in that direction when Bendis created New Avengers. Wolverine joining kinda felt like a jumping the shark moment for the team. I know Spidey was a previous member before but it was a very brief stint and not the permanent longterm role he's been playing for years now. Ever since then it seemed like it was only a matter of time till they'd eventually get to Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Daredevil, etc... Surprised Silver Surfer hasnt had a stint yet

I don't want to start a big digital vs traditional debate, but I'm trying to decide if I want to switch completely to digital for Marvel Now or not. What do most people here do?

I only buy paper comics. I don't like reading comics on my phone or computer, and I don't have an iPad or tablet. I haven't even been using the little digital codes Marvel's been putting in their bigger comics lately.

If you have an iPad, digital comics are great. Simpler; easier to find; easier to "store" and catelog; and cheaper in a lot of cases.

But yeah, if you only have a phone and/or PC, I can see why they wouldn't be so great.

Personally, I bought my iPad purely for the comics. :o

Comics are even good on an iPhone. Just download the Marvel AR app and try some of their free ones. Resolution is pretty good and it looks crisp and good.

I've tried Marvel's apps on my Android and found that I can't read comics a panel at a time. It feels incredibly claustrophobic and offputting. I need to see the whole page.

I'm slowly weening myself onto digital. I bought a Kindle Fire specifically because it's already loaded with the Comixology app and it's cheaper than an ipad. But it's mainly titles I'm interested in but wait to see price drops (Supergirl, Ultimate Spiderman/X-Men, Venom), titles I'll try and/or like but the collector in me doesn't need them in my long box (Batman and Robin, Hickman's Avengers, Thief of Thieves, The Activity), and back issues I've always kept my eye on (X-Factor, New X-Men, Irredeemable, Justice League). The only books I can't give up paper or wait for cheap digital are my core X-Men titles and Batman (especially under Snyder) I'm just too much of a super fan for those. But I appreciate the free Marvel digital downloads to add to my digital collection.

Ugh, that's how they do it? That doesn't even sound remotely appealing. I like being able to see how they come together on the page, especially when they do interesting and unconventional layouts. That kind of thing can't look that good on a smaller device.

It doesn't.

I doubt I'll ever even consider switching to digital until/unless I move, too. I like my comic shop's owner and I wouldn't feel right taking my business from him.

You can view whole pages at a time. There's options for that. There are third party apps which make viewing comics/magazines better. Bookman is one that works wonderfully and has alot of options and I think work well on an iPhone 4S

I'd be reading them on an ipad. I just don't want to take away business from my local comic shop either. And I'd have to go to the owner and tell him to cancel my pull list, which I'd find awkward.

But my shop is kinda awkward when it comes to pull lists. A lot of times he'll forget to put stuff in my file and it sells out. And I'm running out of space to store everything. And it would save a trip every wednesday. And I was thinking about getting everything digital, but also getting trades of the stories that I love so that I have something on my shelf. I just don't... and I want to decide before Uncanny Avengers...

Old school all the way!

1) after reading Avengers vs X-Men, what are Hope's powers?

2) after watching the Avengers for the 6th time, has the Cosmic Cube ever been called the Tesseract in the books, or was that purely a movie thing?

Hope has ALL the mutant powers.

Also, she seems to be able to manipulate the powers of others sometimes. She cured Rogue of that hecatomb stuff that caused her to kill people instantly with a touch, and she helped Nightcrawler teleport from Las Vegas to San Francisco.

The Cosmic Cube has been called the Tesseract only in the movies although it is also in some scenes referred to as the cube. The name tesseract is the actual geometrical term for a 4 dimensional cube.

More like Hope is a mimic and needs to be within a certain proximity to access powers of those she comes in contact with.

I doubt she helped Nightcrawler teleport anywhere. She is the one that teleported them away. It was one of the early hints as to her mutant abilities before it was explicitly stated

I kind of wish someone with an irreverent sense of humor, like Hawkeye or Iron Man, had gone ahead and called it a Cosmic Cube. Then everyone looks at him and he's like, "What? It's a cube and it's cosmic!" Could've been a nice little gag for the comic readers. :D

But Hope didn't know where they were going. They went directly from a Las Vegas back alley to Utopia Island.

She knew about Utopia. It was the destination that she and Cable were heading towards. Nightcrawler doesnt have the range to teleport from Las Vegasto San Francisco in one jump. Its just not in his capabilities. For him to move that distance, he would have to do alot of jumps. And he already was weakened by this point bc he was doing several of them already.

I always thought that was Nightcrawler's last bamf. Like the prayer he recited and the circumstances gave him the emotional/pschycological strength to make the biggest (and last) jump of his life. It felt very poetic the way I read it.
