The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 4

It led into Guardians of the Galaxy.

Ah ok, that's definitely something I'm gonna look into.

Astonishing X-men is awful and I wouldn't recommend it. They may have been recommending Whedon's run but that was back in 2005 and really not relevant to today's X-men. Really All New and Uncanny are the only two essential X-books at the moment.

I was just at my comic book store, they said the same thing that after Whedon's initial run(Issue 25 onward yes?) the quality is not as good. After more looking around and asking around I'm deciding that I could either:

a)Go for Astonishing X-Men anyway.
b)Read Avengers X-Sanction, then read Avengers vs X-Men and get up to speed with not just the current X-Men comics but probably where Marvel comics are at now.

By the looks of things b) is the better long term path although very expensive :/. I wish Marvel would do their own reboot like what DC did.

On another note, how's things in the Ultimate universe nowadays? Been thinking about reading stuff from there, anything good?

The X-Men First Class comics are amazing. They're basically a bunch of one-shot or two-issue stories that take place back when Cyclops, Jean, Iceman, Angel, and Beast were still students. They're a lot of fun if you just wanna read a decent X-Men comic without all the years of continuity.

Well that's good then, I'll definitely pick up some issues then. :)

I'll do you a favor. I love putting together read-orders (I don't know why) so I'll get you together a chronological read order regarding things from X-Sanction to post-AvX including a tie-in to AvX that I feel is really good and improves the emotional impact of the main event. It also will prepare you for the New Avengers title that comes after AvX. I'm including Uncanny Avengers because its 50/50 X-Men and Avengers and I'm including New Avengers because it includes Beast and Namor and because it picks up on plots left in AvX. All New X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Uncanny Avengers are the core of the X-Men world, so that's why I've included those. If you want to know where anything else is, I can plug it in for you. I included New Avengers because you mentioned Avengers and it's important to read New Avengers first post-AvX, as it comes before every other Marvel title in the Marvel NOW initiative. You can skip it if you want to stick with just the X-Men.

X-Sanction 1-4
AvX 1-6
New Avengers 29
AvX 7-12
New Avengers 1-6
Uncanny Avengers 1-4
AvX Consequences 1-5
All New X-Men 1-8
Uncanny Avengers 5-6
Uncanny Avengers 8 AU
Uncanny X-Men 1-3
All New X-Men 9-11
Uncanny X-Men 4
All New X-Men 12-13 (current)
Uncanny X-Men 5-7 (current)
Uncanny Avengers 7-9 (current)
New Avengers 7 (current)

This is just my suggested reading order to keep things in chronological order for you and to prevent ruining things.

From here all the plots are currently being played out so I don't know how they'd fall. If you want to get into the core Avengers book, which parallels with New Avengers, you can insert it in here however you wish as it doesn't tie-in with the X-Books at all. It does, however, take place after New Avengers 6, so you could technically read all this and then read Avengers in its entirety.

Are there any good stories in the Thor canon focusing on Odin before Thor was born & all that?

Well, during JMS's run they showed how ole Od screwed his daddy over.

Would Wolverine's body reject a symbiote? Has there ever been a story like that?

In the 60s Jack Kirby did some back-up stories for the Thor comics (Journey into Mystery at the time), they pretty much set up the whole mythology into the marvel universe and the first 2 or 3 chapters dealt with Ódin and his father if i remember correctly

In Venom Shiver: it was able to bond with him with no problems. However in Mighty Avengers 8, it was able to bond with him but his healing factor kept trying to kick it out.

Thank you so much! Hopefully a totally new reader like myself and others could use this to get up to speed with things and then enjoy all the new Marvel comics. Although I'll see myself probably using wikipedia to learn characters etc.

Why is the Scarlet Spider wearing Spider-Man's ugly neon costume now?

He used it at the end of Spider-Island to help out during the crisis. At the end, he refused to give it back to Peter.

What does it do (besides look stupid)?

It's a stealth suit that can bend light and sound making the wearer invisible or immune to loud noises. Peter originally designed it to combat Phil Urich's goblin sonic scream thingy he does.

Which suit is that? The Big Time? If so I love that costume. Definetly doesnt look stupid

Except for the part where it does. A lot. It's like Tron invaded Spider-Man.

And looks great.

Big Time Suit was a good luck for him

I thought that one was alright. I didn't care for the one he made later that had a kind of mesh look. I think it was in the arc with Massacre.

Yeah, it was some super bullet proof armor. The colors were awful.

Going back to the Scarlet Spider costume question, one thing I don't understand is that he's already wearing the stealth suit. As in, Kaine's regular, default costume is supposed to be the "Tron" stealth suit. He just stole it and modified its look. So what, does he have two stealth suits? One he made into his Scarlet Spider costume, and the other "Tron" style suit like in the pic above?

It looks fine as a highly specialized suit for a specific purpose, but as a regular spider-hero's costume, it just looks idiotic. Not that Kaine's previous Scarlet Spider costume was all that great either.

If they lost the neon and made it just regular red, it would be tons better than Kaine's regular costume (which sucks).

There is no such thing as a Scarlet Spider costume if there is no blue hoodie :cmad:

Ben's Spider-Man costume was one of the best. It's actually going to make a comeback in Superior.

So I picked up the Hawkeye my life as a weapon trade and am loving it. My question is I believe in the second issue Hawkeye and Kate attend a circus with a bunch of villains attending i.e. kingpin, madam masque, tombstone etc.
However the villains are also shown with a woman I did not recognize that I assumed was Vanessa Fisk. So my question is who is she? If she is a new character that is revealed later please dont spoil and just reply that she is a new character. Thanks

That's Kingpin's Wife.

She's supposed to be dead though, but since when has Fraction ever bothered to pay attention to continuity right? :funny:
