The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition - Part 4

With regards to the X-Men comics, I've read through Battle of the Atom and I'm up to date, and I'm familiar with Uncanny X-Men and All New X-Men, can I jump onto Wolverine & The X-Men? I tried reading through all the issues to get up to scratch once and then I dropped it for a while as it felt a bit tedious, I had a look at the new issues coming and I figured why not give it one more shot.

Wolverine and the X-Men is about to end in a few months.

You're better off picking up Amazing X-Men. Jason Aaron writes it too and it just started.

Wasn't he able to walk on the ocean floors or Madripoor even in the old days before the crazy author-boost to his powers? I feel like that was a thing.

You can probably jump right in on the next issue, as all the previous plots have been wrapped up, but as runawayboulder said, I'd pick up Amazing X-Men if I were you. It's only 1 issue in and focuses on Wolverine's side of the X-Men. Wolverine & the X-Men started great but faltered right after Avengers vs. X-Men and never recovered. I don't think it's worth getting caught up on; and it's ending in a few months. I think it has 4 or so issues left.

I figured. Yeah I figured it looked easy to jump into now, and yeah the title wasn't that great overall hence the cancellation. Thanks!

I've always been slightly vague about what Thanos innate powers are, because he always seems to have some sort of Macguffin that's pushing him into Universe Buster level. Anyone want to clarify what he can actually do by himself?

Super Strength, a certain degree of invulnerability, Enhanced Speed and Stamina, some mental powers, teleportation, energy manipulation, and his greatest power of all, super intelligence.

That's what I thought.

Question #2...didn't Odin score a Knock Out on Galactus in an old comic book? Not the recent Matt Fraction super headbutt issue.

So is Peter Parker dead everywhere now? Ock got him in 616 and he's gone in the UU, what's left?

I have a couple of questions!

1- What happened in Age of Ultron? Is that a separate universe now or is that still 616 and everything else is now alternate?

2- What happened to Johnny Blaze (Ghost Rider 1)? I stopped reading GR ages ago.

1) Wolverine went back in time so many times that he caused time and space to shatter, connecting multiple timelines. Hank Pym, Tony Stark and Beast only theorized this at the time. It was basically Marvel's way to open the door to crossing over characters more easily.

2) Blaze did become Ghost Rider again at the end of the last series, taking the spirit of vengeance back from that girl, under the recommendation of Dr Strange in order to help beat Mephisto. But now there's a new GR coming soon that's confirmed not to be Blaze, so who the hell knows.

Great! Thank you! :yay:

How often has Mystique disguised herself as someone who isn't white? This question came to me after my friend pointed out that in First Class, she chose to look like a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white girl when she could look like any race she wants.

White people have an easier time in life. Not to get all political but just saying. Especially in FC which was set in the 60s, it made sense why she'd disguise herself as a white woman and not black for example. Disguising herself as white allows her to avoid or at the very lesser, limit her exposure to stuff like racism and it's allowed her opportunities which she may have had a tougher time with otherwise. In the books, her fortune in part has been funded by the older rich white men, she's swindled and they likely were attracted to their own race. If I'm. It mistaken, Mystique is in fact Caucasian herself. We've seen her as such the few times she's been depose red and her mutation reverted to its original skin color

She has posed as people of different races and ethnicities AND gender in the comics. How often? Personally, I can't quantify how often or not.

If you and your friend are basing the question on the movie version, Havok83 gives you a very good explanation. Also, when she was an adult and she was depowered she reverted to a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white woman. We could explain it as what's easiest and more comfortable to her since it was her natural form until she became a mutant. The real reason in the movies? They hired a model/actress, they're gonna milk her for all she's worth. :oldrazz:

So was I the only person who pronounced Thanos as THANE-NOES instead of THAN-NOES before last year?
