It is sorta. It starts SHIELD going to hell after Nick Fury leaves, which leads to all sorts of crap happening since he was the one thing keeping everybody from destroying it and forcing it to do whatever from whoever. It lead to a power vacuum which they have Maria Hill put into as a pawn, it let a ton of folks go for power grabs all over the world because they knew SHIELD would be far less effective and eventually let Norman Osborn take it all over and make it HAMMER.

I'm talking about this secret war

Not the one from the 80s, from Wikipedia it says that it set the stage for the crossover events that have come since.
I know what you are talking about and no I don't think it's required reading

Recently they've done the whole thing with Archangel being the next Apocalypse and that getting resolved but have they ever done anything with the fact Cyclops had been possessed by Apocalypse for several months?

No, it actually hasnt been touched upon since Scott rejoined the X-men. Morrison kind of used that to explain the distance in his marriage with Jean, but the story was never explored and hasnt really factored into any of the Apocalypse plots since. I cant recall if there was mention of it in Blood of Apocalypse, which Scott was around for but Im not near my books to verify

With all the Apocalypse stuff they've done recently you'd think they'd have mentioned it but I guess he's been pretty busy now with all the new mutants.

Gonna use my 2 days off tomorrow and the next day to catch up on the 4 or so weeks of comics I'm behind on

On the off-chance anyone here keeps up with Ultimateverse

Ben Grimm was cured of being the Thing. It turned out his rocky-hide was a cocoon all this time for Ben's "true powers" to grow, and he emerged from his Thing form as basically the Ultimateverse's Wonder Man.

Now (in Cataclysm) Ben Grimm is the Thing again.

What...?!

More importantly can someone explain what the hell is the deal with Mysterio these last 15 years?

The original Mysterio was Quentin Beck. Beck died after fighting daredevil forever ago. After his death, a new Mysterio appeared during Mackie's Spider-Man run, joining a Sinister Six led by Sandman (with Venom of all people tagging along...). It was suggested that this Mysterio was NOT Beck, as Beck was still dead, and non of the Six suspected this guy to be the original Mysterio. Was this Mysterio's identity ever revealed? Where did he go?

Then another new Mysterio appeared during the Black Cat: Evil that Men Do miniseries. This Mysterio was a mutant and last appeared during that post-Civi War Back in Black era story arc that involved "Miss Arrow" and even featured the return of Quentin Beck as a ghost (because Beck WAS STILL DEAD). That Mysterio disappeared and Beck returned to hell.

THEN, The Gauntlet started, and "a Mysterio" appears and eventually (re)joins the Sinister Six and is seen all the way up to the "Ends of the Earth" Slott story. Presumably this Mysterio is still the current Mysterio we still have in Superior Spider-Man's run, being the same Mysterio that Doctor Spiderpus captured and forced under his Superior Six line-up. I was even told that this current Mysterio is just Beck again, with no explanation of how the hell Beck is back from the grave.

Never mind the problem that they just brought Beck back without even glancing over those details, being bad enough as that is, but it turns out that Superior Six/Ends of the Earth/Gauntlet Dan Slott era Mysterio CANNOT be Beck because over in Spider-Men, the REAL QUENTIN BECK was masterminding events that not only took place in that miniseriess (Spider-Men), but also was remotely responsible for other arcs that took place over in the Ultimate Universe BEFORE Miles Morales (Ultimate Universe) took over. And currently, our original, real 616 Quentin Beck is imprisoned over in the Ultimate Universe AT THE SAME TIME as this current, allegedly also Quentin Beck Mysterio is running around in the Superior Spidey books.

So, when did Quentin Beck return, how, and who is the Mysterio that Super Octipder has dealt with?

The Mysterio thing has been all over the place. Instead of going with using the "faked" suicide to elevate Mysterio, Marvel writers after Smith botched the hell out of it. It's best to read the wiki page for Mysterio. It breaks it down and makes it easier to digest.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysterio

The Mysterio in Ock's mind-controlled Sinister Six, at the very least, was definitely not Beck. He was apparently just a pawn, if his dialogue is to be believed. Once the Six are freed from Ock's mind control in Superior Spider-Man Team-Up, Mysterio keeps repeating that he's not supposed to be there, he only put the costume on due to a misunderstanding or something.

...the Hell did I miss all that? I mean, I actually read Superior Spider-Man from literally any writer that isn't Slott, I know I read everything from Yost.

Huh...

Ok. Could probably be Daniel Berkhert, then. Doubt it'll be confirmed.

So, when did Quentin Beck return, how, and who is the Mysterio that Super Octipder has dealt with?

Quentin Beck returned sometime during "The Gauntlet" storyline. The explanation for his return was that he faked his death and had been faking the deaths of other characters while he was gone. I forget which ones. He then got away with a bunch of money during "Ends of the Earth" then got caught in the Ultimate universe in "Spider-Men".

The new/current Mysterio is just some kid who bought the Mysterio persona from The Hobgoblin's villain franchise. He first appeared in Avenging Spider-Man #22. He's doesn't have a name yet (I think) he just appears to be a young African American kid who realized too late that he's in over his head. He also calls himself Mysterion for some reason. A South Park reference maybe?

What was the first significant death in Marvel? Somebody like Uncle Ben doesn't count. I'm talking about a sort-of "event" death.

Captain Marvell or Gwen Stacy.

So they're killing the Watcher? Why?

So they're killing the Watcher? Why?

Shock n Awes! Sales Boost! I honestly have no idea. It seems pretty out of the left field. He hasn't been a major player in the MU for some time now if I recall.

I'm reading through Ultimate Xmen and I'm about to read Ultimatum. Should I read Ultimate Xmen/Fantastic Four before the main story or after?

I'd say skip Ultimatium. Its as bad as Countdown from DC. Random meaningless death and pointless plots.

Its necessary though especially if he plans on reading Ultimate X and subsequently Ultimate Comics X-men. Too much stuff happens there which has ramifications which set off the premise for those titles and gets followed through. Ignoring Ultimatum leaves a big gap in the overall saga and not advised. It at least had great art so that should be a nice visual to look at

to answer the original question, the FF crossover should be read before Ultimatium

So they're killing the Watcher? Why?

Plot device. Plain and Simple. It's the payoff at the end of the event that's gonna make it all worthwhile or not. Like in Identity Crisis, there was he reveal that the JLA screwed over Batman and he may have figured it out.

Anyone have any of those panels from the Ultimates where Hank Pym is wearing some sort of greenish (I think) suit and experments on himself to become Giant Man? Janet runs in scared and finds a giant naked Hank Pym in the experiment room like this:
OK, can't find that panel either...
It inspired this scene from the animated movie:
giantman3th.jpg

But in the comic he was naked here. But prior to that he was wearing some sort of suit. Can anyone help me find those panels? Maybe scan them if its not too much trouble? I can't find them anywhere on the internet.

Where does the current Inhumanity stuff start and whats the read order?

Is it just me or did the Weapon program (I-X) get the wrong Captain America the first time around? They wanted the jerkhole thug who would brutalize anyone they said to and they wound up with the main Cap when they wanted the Ultimate Cap.

Is there any major crossover event where Dr Doom is the main villain? And what are the best Avengers vs Dr. Doom stories?

I enjoyed the Ultimate Spider-Man issues that they with Ultimatum, but I haven't bothered with actually reading Ultimatum.

So I looked at Wikipedia (yeah, I know) at The Amazing Spider-Man. With Marvel Unlimited I plan on reading all of TASM comics. Now I noticed Wiki said this...

(vol. 1)
442 (#1-441 plus #-1) and 28 Annuals

Now, which issue happens to be #-1?

The -1 issue. Marvel released them for a month back in the late 90s and each told an origin tale featuring the characters of the book
